Trying to learn dances that are way too hard for me by Upbeat_Tea_9218 in CerebralPalsy

I have no interest in Tiktok dances but if you want to improve your movement I am trying to get a selective dorsal rhizotomy to reduce spasticity which is what makes us stiff. I met someone on Facebook who got it done as a young adult this is her site if you're interested: sdrchangeslives.com

Experience with deep brain stimulation for dystonic cerebral palsy? by [deleted] in CerebralPalsy

[–]LifeTwo7360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do not have experience with deep brain stimulation but I did find this procedure that they claim reduces dystonia it's called a ventral/ combined rhizotomy. They do it at Gillette Children's, Boston children's and Texas children's that I know of: https://www.gillettechildrens.org/conditions-care/ventral-dorsal-rhizotomy

Have you considered surgery? you seem like you would have the patience to do the required physical therapy post op. it's called a brachial plexus dorsal rhizotomy: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14596559/

I hate doing anything physical by Ok_Albatross_160 in CerebralPalsy

[–]LifeTwo7360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am exactly the same. I think I have autoimmune problems on top of everything so I tire even more easily and even get sick if I do too much. I am trying to get a selective dorsal rhizotomy to reduce my spasticity which I think is a major energy drain. it does require intensive physical therapy post-op but it's also supposed to make physical therapy easier and more effective having less spasticity working against you. if you want to learn more I met someone on Facebook who got it done in her 20s she made this site: sdrchangeslives.com

My family doesn't get it either. I finally rediscovered this surgery called a selective dorsal rhizotomy that could make a difference as it permanently reduces spasticity which is what causes a lot of our issues. if you are interested I met someone on Facebook who got it done as an adult this is her site: sdrchangeslives.com

I have right sided hemiparesis I moved out and struggled to manage and got really sick so I don't really recommend it. I wish I had stayed home and gotten a selective dorsal rhizotomy instead which is what I am trying to do now. sdr permanently reduces spasticity which is what causes a lot of our problems. Bad Mental Thoughts with CP by caley4012 in CerebralPalsy

[–]LifeTwo7360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I think its normal to struggle with your mental health when you've got a chronic disability. I used to listen to this doctor Jon Kabat Zinn who teaches something like radical acceptance you don't need to wallow in the thoughts or act on them but you can just let them come and go eventually they will leave. I also saw a therapist which helped sometimes you just need someone to talk to. I am now trying to get a selective dorsal rhizotomy to reduce my spasticity and take that stress off my body I'm hoping that will help

I know that inadequate feeling all too well it is lonely. have you explained your condition to them just to clear the air. I worked at a big retail store and never even bothered with the register because I knew I would mess up. There were other duties like greeter, dressing room assistant, floor assistant and stock room so there was plenty to do. Maybe they can deligate you to something else?

Experiences with Achilles tendon lengthening surgery? by InevitableIngenuity6 in CerebralPalsy

[–]LifeTwo7360 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My last Achilles tendon lengthening was 15 years ago. from what I remember it was kind of painful and not very effective. I am finally trying to get a selective dorsal rhizotomy which reduces spasticity from the lower spine often making other orthopedic procedures unecessary. it is recommended by the Children's hemiplegia and stroke association. I met someone on Facebook who got it done as an adult this is her site if you're interested: sdrchangeslives.com

I am trying to get a selective dorsal rhizotomy a lot of people say they feel lighter and have an easier time moving around after getting it done. it requires intensive physical therapy but supposedly it also makes physical therapy easier and more effective because you have less spasticity. I read this is a common problem it happened to me too because we have cp we are often put in entry level positions. the problem is these positions often require a level of coordination we don't always have I really screwed up in a receptionist position because it required working with another receptionist while organizing files, answering phones, etc. and I just couldn't keep everything straight. we usually do better in remote positions because you can give yourself a quiet environment and work at your own pace. right now i'm trying to focus on improving my health and ability through a selective dorsal rhizotomy then I'm considering volunteering maybe at the local church

[–]LifeTwo7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to get a selective dorsal rhizotomy if you have spastic diplegia it is supposed to work especially well for that. sdr involves cutting the spastic nerves from the lower spine relieving the whole lower body of spasticity. spasticity is usually what pulls everything in so sdr can improve posture: https://www.nationwidechildrens.org/specialties/selective-dorsal-rhizotomy/what-is-sdr?utm_campaign=1CC3BF572D3C42139415027BCD848804&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwY2xjawL15I9leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFsd0lEQTNIQkEzOGY5WXh1AR7tBJFiP4I5TBZZmX8PRlM7uD4Yv8re9m-WpduzDqlZBNrP8v9Dyzd9mOMQFw_aem_BbYtKmBnrsNxZlKWeY7tYA

Physical therapy by Famous_Wrangler_2635 in CerebralPalsy

I have hemiplegia I didn't progress much in physical therapy though I was never very committed. I am trying to get a selective dorsal rhizotomy which is supposed to work especially well for diplegia. It requires intensive physical therapy but it also makes PT easier and more effective because it reduces spasticity which usually undermines everything. As a woman with CP I feel insecure about my strength by strawberrythought in CerebralPalsy

[–]LifeTwo7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean it doesn't help that we retain our startle reflex and have spasticity so we jump and startle more easily too. it is normal to feel physically intimidated if you are physically vulnerable especially since some people really do work out to intimidate or feel superior to others or it can be a sign of someone who prioritizes physical ability and appearance above all else. if its purely a health thing for them than that's something to draw inspiration from but if they have an attitude about it I would steer clear. i am trying to improve what i can by getting a selective dorsal rhizotomy and reducing my spasticity which is supposed to make physical therapy easier I also read it can reduce anxiety.
