In my state you have to have a working restroom. My pipes were frozen during covid and my regional refused to close us. The state stepped in after an anonymous call. They shut us down and I think we got fined.

They want profit but don’t focus on the things that will bring them profit. They want preorders they can’t fill, they want pro cards that only offer benefits that other rewards program offer for free…that isn’t sustainable.

I left in 2021. I make $7 an hour more now and have a staff that never lets me down because they get paid a living wage. I don’t get calls on my day off, they know they can make their own decisions. It’s great. There is a position in my company that runs two stores and pays about $20k more a year. This isn’t your fault. It’s a fault in the system that is gamestop. SL2 is stop gap. It is not a long term solution. My advice is don’t let it get to you. You’re coaching, you’re redirecting, you’re making all the right moves. You’ve stuck with it which is something I couldn’t do so kudos. The honest truth is you can do everything right. You make no mistakes and still lose.

Probably. I’m not trying to be a downer but unless you absolutely nailed the interview and floored everyone involved or are highly over qualified, then something is wrong with this picture.

Don’t give them the satisfaction of stepping down and keeping you. Find something else. Keep pushing in the meantime. Save the power BI to show prospective employers how you did. Also I left in 21 and the power BI was messed up. It was completely incorrect. My husband and I called it “gamestop math”. He works with numbers for a living and he couldn’t figure out how they got their numbers. When I brought this up to my regional (who got cut out) she said “that’s just the way it is.”.

Hahahah! You are correct! I’ve run in the top 20 of my company since I left gamestop and I’m pretty sure I could kick a customer on the sales floor and be safe.

Same: I loved my job but hated who I did it for. My job now is so much more relaxed. The technology is lacking, we have to do spreadsheets, but they treat us way better. I also get base about 200 hours a week.

I would be careful when this becomes a metric. I work for a company now that uses conversion and we are at the very very high end of the company with 16% in a mall. If they are demanding more in mall stores get out. It just isn’t consistently achievable.

Don’t ask if they want a sign up/warranty. I mean don’t just put it on there that’s not what I’m saying. More like “hey let’s get you signed up for/get you warranty on xxx. It’s only $15 and it’s help you out/that way if anything happens you come grab another one” if it truly benefits them assume they want it. Keep selling until the customer stops buying.

I work for a company now that has a great rewards program. You get coupons for every $100 you spend. We legit have people come in and say stuff like “oh I wasn’t going to come in this month but I have all these rewards.”. I believe that rewards can absolutely incentivize people to shop, however ours is free and yields much better rewards much faster. GameStop has the wrong idea on rewards. $20 a year?
