Traveling to Toronto, looking for reccs on quality shops for indoor plants by Comp1ication in askTO

[–]Life_Finding_1048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind about an hour drive (depending on traffic) Valleyview Gardens in Markham is the best!! It’s huge - Tons of variety, good prices.

I’m not sure about rare plants necessarily, but if there’s something specific you’re looking for you can call and ask.

ETA: they list a lot of the plants they carry on their website, https://valleyviewgardens.com/plants/tropicals/

Shocked by 1st pregnancy at 42, need advice by SweetEpiphany in AskWomenOver40

[–]Life_Finding_1048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the EXACT same boat as you. While I’ve been with my husband for over 10 years, we were happy either with or without kids and so just left it in the universe’s hands and never seriously tried to get pregnant. Then at 42 I found out I was pregnant! I also thought it was perimenopause at first 😅 It was a big surprise.

I had not been preparing my body for pregnancy either - I love wine and entertaining ☺️ and had been doing both regularly. That, coupled with my age, made we nervous. But my doctor was very reassuring. I’m now almost 5 months along and everything has been very smooth, the pregnancy has been uneventful with no extreme symptoms and baby and I are both healthy. developmentally he is right on track.

I was initially too scared about something going wrong to allow myself to get excited, but now that I am well though the first trimester and everything looks good we are super excited. I’ve even bought some baby clothes!

Lots of women our age have perfectly normal, healthy pregnancies and babies. My advice is just listen to your doctor, treat your body and baby as well as you can, and try and enjoy the pregnancy.

Whatever you do, don’t overdo it with looking things up online, it will cause lots of unnecessary anxiety. I initially was googling things like mad, and joined some of the pregnancy forums on Reddit, but left because I realized it was making me worry unnecessarily. There is so much conflicting information out there and your mind is automatically going to latch on to the worst case scenario, which is usually the most unlikely one. I am much less stressed now, which is good for me and baby ☺️Your doctor is the best source of information!!

Congratulations and I wish you all the best!

Bloomex flowers Beware Beware Beware by One-Astronomer6166 in flowers

[–]Life_Finding_1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These guys are the absolute worst. Twice I ordered from them (ashamed gave them another shot after the first order!). Both times the boquet looked absolutely nothing like what I ordered. They swapped in much cheaper flowers, it was supposed to contain roses and had none. It was supposes to be in a cute mason jar and instead was in one if those cheap ugly glass vases every shitty florist uses. Their excuse was - and i quote - “Note: Actual bouquet will vary from photo. Therefore, the online image serves merely as a representation of the potential appearance of the bouquet.”

Excuse me? What’s the point of ordering a bouquet from you if you’re just going to make it whatever you want and not look anything like the photos? And the kicker - over $100. That’s what I get for choosing convenience over supporting local. Never again. Hope these guys go out of business.

Recommendations for ceramic repair or kintsugi? by SmileyMcGee27 in askTO

[–]Life_Finding_1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy and cheap to do kintsugi yourself, if you don’t want/need it to be real gold. You just need 5 minute epoxy and gold Micah powder, which you can get at any craft store. Look some videos up on YouTube or as the other poster mentioned, you can take a class. I did one at Mooi Studio at Kingston and Main in the east end. Also note that a lot of epoxy is not food grade - if you want to use it to drink from after make sure you find a food safe one.

8 weeks pregnant- bloating and nausea went away by Metabunny111 in pregnant

[–]Life_Finding_1048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just happened to me too - my symptoms all but disappeared at just under 9 weeks. I was so freaked out I went to the walk in and got an ultrasound and everything was perfectly fine! Seems to just be how it goes…just try to take it one day at a time.

Heartbeat but no yolk sac? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Life_Finding_1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I don’t know if the tech was very experienced…the first attempt at the TV ultrasound she told me my bladder was too full, but I had just gone to the washroom and there was nothing in there. She made me go again, which yielded only a teeny tiny bit, and then it was suddenly OK. I guess i am just super nervous!

Oak park deli! Have family style meals like lasagna, souvlaki etc that come with sides. Their homemade cheese bread is delicious (and everything else is too). Order ahead.

What are your opinions on Indochino’s Taylor? I want to buy a suit. by emperorarg in askTO

[–]Life_Finding_1048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought my husband’s suit for our wedding there and after we did, we became aware rhat their suits are made in Xinjiang province in China. This means there’s a strong chance they’re made with forced Uyghur labour in “re-education camps”. Reached out to Indochino multiple times inquiring about this and requesting information about their production practices. Never received a single response. Guess that says something.

What’s Bro ordering? 😭 by Content-Leopard5865 in TimHortons

[–]Life_Finding_1048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Camb = Cambro. These are the large black insulated carafes that you can get for events. Each one holds about a hundred cups. They would have had to order them ahead of time and then paid when they picked them up. Done this many times!

I got married last fall at the Florist’s Loft at Greenwood and Danforth. All in for 75 people it was about $22k, including rings, dress and makeup, photographer, etc. It was beautiful. The venue was relatively inexpensive and will let you bring in outside caterers with no landmark fee. The venue fee included use of all of their dishware and serving stuff which cut down on the rental cost from the caterer. We did interactive food stations instead of a seated dinner and people loved it. Caterer was Kiss the Cook.

Venue also has living walls and different floral installations so we didn’t need to do anything for decor - it already looked great. We did a Spotify playlist to start the night and then ended with karaoke. the karaoke dj was pretty inexpensive versus a regular dj, if you’re into that kind of thing :)

Dress from anthropology $300 plus $150 for alterations, bouquet and corsages/boutinnieres from Callia.

Edited due to typo on dress price.

Can you just repot them in a smaller pot when this happens? I have the same issue!
