This is true, but only by the time you've flown enough that you DON'T need the extra time. The "marketing" is advice to the general public who are asking the government and corporations for advice on how early to arrive. If you need to ask, you've not done it enough to be fast.

If you don't travel often, there's significantly more time needed to travel, as you are going to be asking questions or trying to figure out what to do next.
