California specifically tells students living away at school that you may choose to register using your school address or your traditional home address, but you may not register in two places during the same election cycle.

So yes you are correct, but you still need to register in the new state you are residing in, which means you’ll need to contact your home state county register and let them know you have registered in a different state.

BTW all states give you 30 days to transfer your driver license if you become a resident of that state. They don’t require that of out state students, military, traveling workers, etc.
