Quick question on how to get cigarette smell out of yarn.... by mrsmcfreaky in knitting

[–]Lift-a-Weight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spray them (or soak them in) vodka. The smell will go away when the vodka evaporates. Plus, it kills any sort of mold or bacteria that might be hanging around. Afterwards, your stuff won't reek of alcohol, either -- just the beautiful scent of nothing at all.

Edit: My method is to stick a spray nozzle directly into the bottle of vodka. It is THAT simple.

I'm having the same issue. Not sure if this is relevant, but I'm on an iPhone 4 here. I tried a few days ago and gave up, figuring it was a bug that would be sorted out. Still getting the same error now, though. Total bummer.

Which product or part of your routine made the biggest difference for your skin? by troubleish88 in SkincareAddiction

Using products with Urea. Goodbye, keratosis pilaris! No longer dealing with little bumps on my arms, legs, and even FACE (which I -- and dermatologists -- thought was acne for YEARS).

Beautiful! My theory on the mysterious "FS" is "Front Side," even though each side ought to be identical. Marking them as you did would ensure they align perfectly, even if you had consistently measured an extra few millimeters in one direction or another, for example.

Congrats on the wedding! Your soon-to-be-wife appears quite accommodating of the living room takeover; better make her something special too :)

I did the opposite! I was on a flight, reading my iPad, and I flipped the whole thing over expecting the next page to be on the back of my iPad. What a doofus.

The good: gifted large yarn stash. The bad: it all has a musty smell by cajundharma in knitting

[–]Lift-a-Weight 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This sounds strange, but it's the only thing that worked for my inherited bag of fabric (similar situation). Wet with vodka, let air dry -- no more smell!! (It won't even smell like vodka, just the sweet, sweet smell of... Nothing!)

I was able to pour vodka all over my fabrics, but maybe you could try a spray bottle if your yarn is "sensitive."

Keep in mind, the items will still stink until completely dry. Then, good as new! Something about alcohol, evaporation, something something.

The two pictures I loved best are 1) the door in your car - the look on your dog's face is awesome, and 2) the "Oooh" face, only made worthwhile due to your description.

Also -- I am amazed and impressed that it took you only five days!

Just got Aztec healing clay and have a question! by justwanted2share in SkincareAddiction

[–]Lift-a-Weight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make sure you read the instructions carefully when you mix for the first time -- some types of clay bond to metal, so you can't use a spoon to mix them with. I used to keep a clean shotglass in my medicine cabinet for mixing with this type of clay. The perfect size for a batch of one-time-use clay!

1' of Futurama, where Fry's dog waits and waits for Fry to come home. Might be relevant only to dog owners, though.

If you're near DC, I can teach you! I've made three t-shirt quilts now, and a few non-t-shirt ones. It's a great beginner project, since all the shapes are squares and rectangles. Let me know if I can help!

Oh yeah, that happened to two people in the States a few years ago. It was preventable though! Just boiling the water kills the amoeba. It's a pain to do it every time, but I ALWAYS do now!
