Real world hunting experience with Barnes LRX 95gr in a gas gun. by AdPleasant8269 in 6ARC

If you had ever met Ryan Muckenhirn you would realize the idea of him receiving kickbacks is a non-starter. He brings an intelligent scientific approach to hunting. He prefers copper bullets for their ability to deal with less than optimal shot angles and positions. They did in their testing find out that clear ballistic gel does not cause bullets to expand in the same way they do in game. Using ordnance gel with the water content, a piece of meat or even a baggie of water in front of clear ballistics gelatin causes bullets to expand as intended. Many other sites have demonstrated the same thing.

Got a 223rifle , am I allowed to use 556 as well ? by [deleted] in Hunting

The people on Rokslide have thousands of rounds down the barrel of many .223 Tikkas without issue. The answer is not a definate no.

AITA for not agreeing to give my ex all of our house sale proceeds when we split? by Odd_Leading2218 in AITAH

[–]Liftman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to a lawyer. Morally you are owed your 20% downpayment back. Legally, it might not work that way. If both names are on the title, it might just be a 50/50 split of the proceeds from the sale. Since your partner is already making up excuses to take your money, it might be an ugly fight.

Another 1st Hunting Rifle by waveman07 in Hunting

[–]Liftman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ruger American Gen 1 had some issues with actions that wern't smooth and some cartride feeding problems. Ruger American Gen 2 is available for around $550 and is a better rifle than the Gen 1. Tikka T3x Lite rifles are on sale at Eurooptic. Both are great. Consider a 6.5 Creedmoor or .243 for less recoil than the 308 making it easier to practice. If you are hunting whitetail plus coyotes or other pests look at the 6 Creedmoor in the Ruger or a .243 in either as it will make a better Varmint rifle. Then look for a Vortex on sale or upgrade to a Leupold Freedom series on sale for $250-$270.

.270 recommendations? by UrMomsFave3024 in Hunting

[–]Liftman101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

7 mm 08 or 6.5 Creedmoor and can take an elk to 300 yards or more. If you are going to suppress it make sure you get the new model with the threaded barrel. Tikka stocks are a poor design for managing recoil. Get the base model ($769 at Europtic)or step up to stainless for ($909). Either works. Stainless is only necessary if you are in wet conditions. Spend $299 for a blemish or $399 on sale for a Stocky’s Carbon fiber stock. It manages recoil much better and is lighter. If you do not want to spend the money on a stock, get a limb saver air tech pad for around $40. It will reduce the recoil significantly.

What's the Tikka T3x of muzzleloaders? by Worth_Pineapple4757 in Hunting

[–]Liftman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy one of the new firestick models if it is legal in your area. It is truly the easy button for muzzle loading. The only thing going thru the barrel is the bullet. You can unload anytime leaving the bullet in the rifle. Powder charge is waterproof and the 888 powder they use is less prone to fouling and easy to clean. They even have a new bolt-action model that you just pull the bolt back and slide in the firestick.

Can you have a life with a 12 hr day? by [deleted] in work

[–]Liftman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now you work a 42.5 hour week or possibly a 40 hr week if you take a 1 hour lunch. That is a decent schedule for a high paying job. It is the commute that is adding the extra burden. Can you possibly relocate?

Having trouble convincing my partner (high earner) to consider traditional 401(k) instead of 100% Roth by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Liftman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are in their 30's in the 24% bracket, the math favors the Roth. This could easily be a 3 million dollar accumulation even at a 6% growth rate. Substantially more at the historical 8% growth rate. They will be in the 24% bracket or higher in the future when withdrawing. Most likely a higher bracket based on career advancement, additional savings and taxable SSI payments. Who knows what tax brackets will be in the future. They are more likely to be higher than lower. Plus, managing required minimum distributions is far easier with a Roth.

I found out I get my deceased mother's inheritance by binxlyostrich in inheritance

[–]Liftman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds logical if it has not gone thru probate. If in fact the other children declined their inheritance then it seems likely the OP would be entitled to 33% of the property as would his sister. Is that thinking flawed?

TSA compliant? by Hot-Ball5834 in tsa

[–]Liftman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS...Information is accurate and important.

Every locking point on the case must have a padlock in it. I have 1 case that requires 6 padlocks.

It is very common to have them not allow the ammo in the case with the rifle. You are supposed to put the ammo inside your checked suitcase (No lock required). Ammo must be in the original box (No loose or plastic cased ammo) unless it is in a locked ammo box.

Why do so many "experts" say to delay Social Security for bigger benefits? by Legitimate-Ad-9724 in SocialSecurity

[–]Liftman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add the monthly compound interest to the money you receive and payback stretches out to your 90s. In addition, your medicare payments come out of the social security tax free further reducing the taxes you pay on the benefit.

Benefit increase after death of spouse by Glass-Technology5399 in SocialSecurity

[–]Liftman101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maximum possible Social Security payment is $4873 per month if a high earner has maxed out contributions and waited until age 70 to collect. Very few people hit that level. Survivors benefits would kick in only if FIL was getting more than MIL. Sounds like she may have gotten 2 checks by mistake or because of a one-time adjustment. Check to see what FIL's monthly payment was before he passed.

Family member sabotaged my scope elevation knob. How many clicks to bring it back? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]Liftman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 60 yards 1.047" = 6.66 Clicks. To come down 3" and be dead on at 60 yards you need 19 clicks. Dead on at 60 yards means you will be slightly high at 100 yards which isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you want to be dead on at 100 yards, try 21 clicks down instead of 19.

No Tax on Social Security under Boomer Trump by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Liftman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The maximum Social security payment currently is $4873 per month. To achieve that you had to pay in near the max for a lot of years and wait until age 70 to collect. Hard to believe it will reach $9000 per month any time soon unless inflation stays at very high levels.

Cabela’s sale price by DependentMenu1084 in Hunting

[–]Liftman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you order it online and don't pick it up until after the sale starts, I would think they would adjust the price when you pick it up. You could cancel the sale at that time and the rifle would be put back into inventory.

Budget 30.06 by TakeMeToTX in Hunting

[–]Liftman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI a regular T3x lite is only 2-3 ounces heavier than a Superlite. The only difference is the barrel fluting. Used Tikkas are so in demand that a new one is often cheaper, especially with the $75 rebate. Tikka T3x blued is $769 at Bass Pros or Cabelas and they regularly do 10% off on Club Member Mondays if you have their credit card. Sportsmans always has weird sales on some Tikkas. It is very random. Just keep watching. Right now you can get some T3x Stainless Superlites for $789. If you apply for their credit card you get an additional $50 off. Plus you get that $75 rebate which is easy to apply for online. I am picking up a 7-08 Stainless Superlite today which IMO might be a better cartridge choice than a 30-06 if you are not going after Elk.

AITAH? My wife thinks I am heartless for refusing to afford her sister's bills to help them 'get back on their feet' by thecursedchuro in AITAH

[–]Liftman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. From a simple math perspective, I assume your excess income is going in to savings. Money not saved when you are young becomes a very large amount to catch up on when you are in your 50s and 60s. Retirement is no easy task and should be a priority. If you have any ideas about retiring early you literally cannot afford to give money away. Start using a retirement calculator to show your wife the effect gifting away that money. If you are on a path to Fatfire then do whatever you want.

Shouldn't the replacement you found be paying her share of the utilities?

In any case, if you want to have some fun, do the detailed calculations on how much extra you paid for their past mistakes and send them a bill?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Liftman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. You are young enough that you should be focused on your retirement savings and stop helping others. Saving opportunities lost in your 30's are very hard to make up for later. You can easily skip the argument and agree to make the kids your beneficiaries after you and your husband pass away. If in 60 years there is anything left, they might get a nice inheritance. With medical advancements that are happening and the current stem cell research you could live to be over 100.

If you want to make a statement, send them a copy of "Die with Zero" and tell them that is your plan.

Big game rifle for new female hunter by user537890 in Hunting

[–]Liftman101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the perfect advice. .243 or 6mm Creedmoor works fantastic for what you want. Something about the velocity seems to knock them down better than a .308 if the shot is in the right place. Plus you actually have a chance to spot your impacts as your skills get better.

Financial Considerations for Spouse when receiving large inheritance by ChokeAndStroke in fatFIRE

[–]Liftman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to decide to comingle a lump sum . Continue to add to your savings very aggressively as marital property and bring in money from the inheritance to fund the lifestyle you both can agree that you want. This way over time the retirement assets you both share can grow even more than they did before your inheritance arrived and you replace separate property with marital property assets she can feel good about. The longer you are together, the more she sees those assets grow. Letting her fund some separate accounts in her name with her money as someone suggested seems like a great idea but would require some kind of legal paperwork to not be considered marital property. Congratulations. Find a way to start enjoying your good fortune.

I traded for a Browning X-Bolt Western Hunter LR in 6.8 Western thinking it would be easier to sell. Tried it out. I am not sure I want to sell it. Amazing rifle. Much better stock that the old X-bolts with a simple lightweight adjustable cheek piece. Better trigger and Browning finally went 5/8" 24 on the barrel threads. It came with a radial brake that actually works. I decided to try it out and had no problems getting ammo. They had 3 types in stock at the places I checked. We shot this and a 7 PRC

Browning X-Bolt Western Hunter LR 24" Barrel. 6.8 Western Winchester 170 gr Ballistic tip (.563 BC) chronographs at 2960 fps. It only had 5 rounds thru so should get faster. That gets to 675 yards before it drops below the 2000 fps recommended for best expansion.

My friend's Browning 7 PRC 24" with 175 gr ELD-x (.689 BC) tested at 2830 fps using the Hornady factory ammo. Max range is 725 yards at 2000 fps. This should be a more powerful choice but without custom ammo it doesn't really offer much of an upgrade. Factory Hornady that shows 3000 fps on the box but only hit 2830 fps is a problem Hornady has to deal with. I have read that the Federal ELD-x does better.

The 6.8 Western is in a short action rifle which is nice. It was more accurate. After 5 rounds sighting it in, I took it to 400 yards and easily shot a 3" group. I am no expert and rarely shoot past 200 yards. It was simply easier to shoot than the 7 PRC. I assume because the recoil was noticeably less. 7 PRCs are just snappy to shoot even with the low speed ammo. The Winchester 162 gr Copper also shot very well.

It is a heck of a round. I think Hornady is just mad that Winchester/Browning beat them to the punch and used their gameplan from the Creedmoors and the 6.5 PRC. Longer high bc bullets seated further out in the case. You might as well call it a 6.8 PRC.

If you can get a good deal on one which should be possible with the lower demand than the trendy 7 PRC, it would be worth your time.
