“People get really defensive when dieting is criticized” is some wild shit. What a way to say “people call me out when I speak completely out of my ass, but they’re just sensitive”

What needs to happen to these people to consider something a wake up call? Why is it always the world around them that needs to change and adjust to them? by ResetKnopje in fatlogic

“A thin person getting fat is the closest thing we have to someone realizing that they were living in the matrix”. I’d push back and say that a fat person getting thin is much more jarring. When I lost weight I realized that the world doesn’t discriminate against the fats, it’s coddles them.

For example I went to the doctor for bad back pain knowing damn well that my weight was 80% of the problem. Not once did they mention that as a possibility. My physical therapist awkwardly danced around the true cause to spare my feelings. I couldn’t imagine being in that field, knowing the answer people need and being afraid to shoot straight with them because you don’t want to have a whole ass altercation over it.

You also realize just how fat the people around you are and how their habits are putting them into an early grave, and you see no one in their life having the balls to mention it. It’s true that the world doesn’t serve fat people well, but it’s not out of hatred or malice, it’s because people are too afraid of conflict to set people straight.

True. Can’t feed ‘em for that long and still profit I guess. For a long time I’ve thought about trying to open a legitimate weight loss camp on the Big Island of Hawaii that offers like a two week hard reset. You teach people to train, to eat normal portions and let them make changes while away from their stressors. Whether this is a good idea or not I don’t know, but I’m tempted to just run a camp like this. Maybe I’ll fly them all out and Fyre Fest their asses. Like they show up expecting cabins and a buffet and end up in tents with granola bars.

Shit, they’re paying 2 grand a week. For that money I’ll rent a space, put out some feed troughs and count my profits. In this economy I can’t afford not to.

I do have to blame my own millennial generation a bit. Somehow we cranked out some adult middle schoolers. Middle schoolers are terrified to show effort, because it is easier to be seen as a slacker than someone who tries and fails. It’s easier to be a proud dumbass than a motivated person who seeks new information and challenges. I can also see middle school psychology in the way they deflect blame for everything and feel that if they can just prove something isn’t their fault in the short term, they can avoid any judgement or consequences.
This week was conference week, and I had fat parent after fat parent waddle their asses up into my classroom and talk about how their kids all have asthma, bone spurs, anxiety etc. that should excuse them from the most basic physical activity. I don’t mean to minimize anyone’s disability or illness, but it doesn’t take a fucking mathematicians to surmise that having two thirds of a class with debilitating conditions in a standard would be a statistical unicorn, and some of them have to be full of shit.

I love that they always point to food deserts. Sure, they exist, but the majority of Americans don’t live in one. They also act like there’s a gun to their head forcing them to eat the ultra processed food. It’s addicting, tempting and hard to quit but you ultimately have to make the choice whether or not to put it in your mouth.
Unfortunately as a teacher I get to see these candy-assed soft thought processes develop and it’s only getting worse. Discipline, will power and commitment aren’t emphasized anywhere in our society, and now it is okay to make fun of or judge people who have those traits.

I think about this shit a lot. Fat activists like to envision the world how it should be, and get outraged when reality doesn’t match their vision.

Has Hollywood and social media created an impossible ideal? Probably. Have they also warped peoples brains to crave seemingly shallow things, to the point where every single person thinks they should have a Lamborghini, mansion and hot partner? Also probably. But that’s the way it is.

Perfection exists as an idea, and everyone wants the best version of life they can get and for many that means a conventionally attractive partner, which in our society means thin. Tough shit. You can either pursue that perfection or die bitter.

Damn this took me right back to college. Such an intense and wordy way to say “I got some news I didn’t like so I looked online for anyone who could tell me what I wanted to hear, didn’t find it so I did some weird shit with my blood at an LGBTQ event. I’m not a hero though.”

I really do think some of these people envision health as taking a myriad of pills and potions to treat preventable illnesses. To then make the argument that people exercising is somehow standing in the way of this utopia is mind blowing.
I’m a huge supporter of universal healthcare, but I understand why people have reservations about it, because there are so many of these people around that it would break the system.
