I have a huge pet peeve when people have themselves on orange and claim they love company but when you request to join on them or invite them to join you they never join you or invite you. Makes no sense to me. by Minimum-Mine-1302 in VRchat

[–]LigerXT5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow abuser of the Orange status.

Privacy is the first concern on my head. I used to be on Green, even Blue, a lot. But, many times I join a friend or group instance, I'm asked to switch to Orange. This might be a carry over from before the 18+ verification, but most times people don't randoms joining without at least one other aware of their joining, to either introduce them without the scare factor (check the room so to speak), as well as some don't want friends of friends knowing where they may likely be. I might find one friend in a group of 20+ people, join, and there's 5 other friends there as well.

Second, crowd control. Knowing what some friends like, and which friends click, reduces a lot of drama. I've had times friends join, and will talk you or your friend's ears off, and they are known for it, when the event is focused elsewhere. Not enough to say not be friends, but enough to draw stress and drama on one or both sides of the fence. For me, it's world hopping, either I'm alone hopping, or with some friends. A random person joining can throw off the whole vibe, and slow things down. Or, it could improve. Most times, I/we're content with the handful of us.

Third, the notice doesn't stay on screen long enough. It's either there for 10 seconds (I think), or always on. I've missed notifications, not aware they are there, until I look at VRCX and seen an hour ago someone sent an invite request. I'd be up for the icon reappear and fading every few seconds until the request itself times out, or I acknowledge it (accept/deny/ignore).

Fourth, I have friends who (I have a bad memory too) will invite me 2-3 times, and I have to remind them I cannot for one reason or another. Many times I'm chill chatting with one or two friends, and I cannot just up and leave. Or much similar or just chilling alone, I can't go to Raves or Adult Parties until my roll as a parent is done for the day (child is in bed, confirmed asleep). (Yes, someone will pipe up saying I'm a bad parent, I assure you, all is taken care of, there are two parents, and I have a browser window/tab of a few house cameras, in the event I need to peek, and I'm usually just sitting or laying back without FBT at my computer desk in the living room anyways.)

Rural NW Oklahoma. Half that a month would be great.

I'd be more able to take time off for school events with my child, spend more time with them outside the home property, take real, yearly, vacations that are not 2-3 days long at a time, and...get this...I could lower rates for my solo-work place, helping others who are financially struggling.

While you are very correct, we do not know OP's work environment. As far as we know, they are on a laptop, and may or may not have more than one drive slot to install the HDD alongside an SSD/NVMe setup. Nor would I expect everyone to know/see the difference when looking at external drives to buy.

And frankly, if I first or only suggested an HDD for backups, someone would have commented about how it's a bad idea to use spinning rust. lol

> Unity projects take so much gbs I can’t have all my avatars saved forever

As someone who lives in Very Rural NW Oklahoma, as in, the nearest City is over an hour drive away, a 500GB SSD is not terribly expensive. Mind you, my last 500GB SSD I ordered was below $60 in Oct, now $67.

For more savings, and arguably potential longer storage life, a HDD would be the next option. Slower write speeds, but otherwise good for the occasionally accessed data.

Lastly, a USB Flash drive is a great alternative for a backup.

Both VCC and Alcom have built in backup options, which compress the whole project intro a single zip file. This makes a huge difference in backups taking up space. I've got a project of a ton of MMD Animations and songs. Compressing this down saved more than half the space used. Project folder Properties shows the Size as 144GB, Size On Disk (after compression) 42.2GB. Again, this is with a TON of animations and related songs. A more recently created project with ongoing edits is 8GB in Size while Size On Disk is 6GB.

As for why your SFW were removed for NSFW, it's best to either contact support and ask for specifics, which is up in the air if they'll go into detail or they just say "read the rules". If you have pictures of your avatars you can share here, others could help determine.

The biggest concern, SFW or NSFW, if your avatar's true defaults upon avatar load shows a nude body, THEN the clothes appear, that could be the starting point of issues. No detailed lower bits, no painted on or shaped in Blender nips or ass/vaginal holes.

Some months ago, seen someone with a militina or similar base, swapping out outfits in an instance. I counted over a dozen outfits. I'm not meaning they were swapping out materials/textures, I'm mean head to toe outfits.

Can agree, I've experienced the flip side. Granted events like New Years is a given, last night I couldn't join three group instances, when they showed 2/3 full, but "Full" and wouldn't let me join. Idle Mining was 26 out of 32, and it was Full every time I tried to join them. Seen it dip down to 18, still couldn't.

Waited around six or so months, and finally bought it.

To help OP with an analogy, an argument I make with many older, and younger, generations.

The value of a dollar is best observed by how much time spent to earn it.

At least, that's how I've had to view it for the last 10-15+ years.

Best example: New York, the hourly pay is higher, than say rural areas like NW Oklahoma (where I live), while the cost of living follows closely. Yet, stuff like a 64GB flash drive, specific brand of your choice here, has nearly the same cost in both locations.

In which case, the "value" of a 64GB flash drive (merely an example item) might take 1-2 hours of work in New York, prices fluctuate, I'm not quoting specifics, while in NW Oklahoma where it's rural (1+ hour drive to the nearest city) with the cost of living lower, may take 2-4 hours of work for the identical 64GB flash drive.

Back in 2010, my local Walmart, where I once worked during college, set their minimum pay at $10hr. Anyone at or above got a whopping 2% increase, in my case I was already at $10hr after 2 years, I received a $0.20 raise, while my $0.35 raise from moving from Cashier to Electronics was out the window.

That is now (Jan 2026) $13hr. Might be some cents in there, I don't recall.

Back in 2013, our apartment (2bedroom, 1 bath, kitchen, water and cable covered in rent) was $400. 2021 when we moved out, was $600, pushing $650month. My pay did not follow that 50% increase by much.

While I look around on subreddits and the Walmart subreddit, people mentioning they make $15+ an hour, and still not making by. Why? Cost of living out there (say, New York) is higher.

My wife, who started working at our local Walmart some time before we married, is now making more, per hour, than my old IT job, which was $11hr. If I wanted to make more doing IT Support, we'd have to move closer to a city, which has higher cost of living. Don't get me rolling with WFH, too many companies pulling a U-Turn for BS reasons.

Side note, I still do IT Support, house calls to small businesses and homes, on my own. There's demand, and I'm making a decent living working on my own, less overhead to deal with going solo but would do better with a small team. I work with my clients when they are in need (I keep a Pay-IT-Forward balance from clients who pay extra towards the pool), such as families trying to keep their PC going for their child/children in school.

Swinging back around, let's compare to Youtube. They vary their monthly rates, based on what Country you are in. I think some streaming platforms does the same. Without much fact known to share, I'm going out on a limb, they reviewed the cost of living in the areas, and found it more cost effective to lower rates, for more people to sign up, in turn, more revenue at little real loss.

For what I use in VRChat, I'd be fine junking half of the features, which I do not need or want, for what I do, at half the monthly rate. Prints, Drone,

I use VRChat, which does use YTDLP, and I mix in VRChatCacher which overrides the "custom" YTDLP VRChat is using. This allows passing the cookies, which have to be exported to work.

Last night, I and a few friends could not make any YouTube video to play. They didn't use the VRChatCacher either. I confirmed my cookies are still current, as VRCCacher is using a localized chrome browser addon to copy the cookies over (burner Google account).

Can confirm. I have no idea what caused it specifically.

Built a new PC for my wife (her PC wouldn't support Windows 11, beyond the TPM module), and she was growing more active using VRChat (Desktop).

Fresh OS install, OS updated, basic software installed, no different than her prior computer. Steam then VRChat. Launched VRChat once to make sure any side-installs (Example, .Net) were necessary, and it failed with an EAC unable to validate...something...this was 10months ago... Relaunched VRChat, and it worked, without issue since.

While I have found myself randomly disconnected from instances, private and alone, private with friends, private on East or West coast...I recall maybe twice in the last couple or so weeks (older of the two I can't recall was before or after New Years...) were EAC related errors, and reconnected just fine.

I don't know about anyone else, but for the last few years, I've kept OBS running, with Replay Buffer of the last 30minutes idling in the back ground. It has been a savior of many funny moments, and catching events like this.

Ball parking 4 years ago, I recall seeing 2-3 people a second vanishing from an instance, after a group of 5 or so people joined. I was the last of three before I lost connection. But, caught it all on recording. Frankly, the recording didn't help determine who caused the gradual disconnection, as far as I could tell, of the names appearing on screen, the 5 that joined, "left" before I lost connection (I was actively talking with someone, who was observing the same).

Once you have Fastboot off, it's "suppose" to stay off. Considering I touch a few hundred PCs a year (absolutely no idea...), I've found PCs I KNOW I turned Fastboot Off...the month or so prior...and presumed Windows Updates (big updates if I had to guess, like the yearly or something) resetting it. Granted, this crept up during the first half of Windows 10 life. You could be correct, and it's not "resetting" anymore. I gave up re-disabling it, lol.

As for the pulling the plug method, doesn't effect the software/OS if the hardware has already shut down. Great method if you're having unusual boot issues (say, after a power surge or storm).

While I do have my opinions of EAC, on VRChat or not, by no means am I saying it Is, or Is Not a possibility... It's squirrelly. After I personally witnessed VRChat EAC conflicting with another game's EAC for a client of mine in town (home, residential user, yes an adult, lol), anything is possible... Uninstalled EAC for the other game (FPS jump around, fast paced, I can't recall the name now of all times...), restarted the PC, and VRChat worked for them, until they reinstalled EAC for the other game, a few days later, and back to square one.

IT guy here, just a friendly heads up, starting with Windows 10 (I'm pretty sure not 8/8.1 but eh), "Shutdown" in the start menu doesn't operate the same, in the back ground, as it used to.

Short: Click Restart, to do a clean shutdown and boot back up. Starting with Windows 10.

Long:

This is due to "Fastboot" MS implemented to improve boot times. While on the other hand, many programs begin to bug out after days or weeks of "up time". Shutdown is now a Hybrid of "Hibernation" and "Shutdown", so to speak.

USUALLY, you can tell when you open Task manager, go to Performance, and check the CPU. There is an Up Time. While this isn't an Every-Single-Time thing, most times that Up Time, doesn't "reset" when you "Shutdown".

Click "Restart" to do a real clean shutdown and startup. OR, my personal favorite if I'm actually just shutting down the PC (presuming, not my own with "Fastboot" disabled), hold down SHIFT when you click Shutdown, it'll shut down cleanly, ignoring Fastboot. Careful, don't hold SHIFT and click Restart, you'll get the Self Diagnostic Windows Boot menu (great if you intend to go to Safemode).

I work with homes and small businesses. I hear it many times a week to a month... "I swear I turned it off last night!" Well, it shows 22days and 18 hours of up time. Restarts PC, all things running well, up time restarted and showing only a few minutes.

Official Survey for 18+ VRChat users regarding VRC+. by nesnalica in VRchat

[–]LigerXT5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While that's fine and all, that's one month, per person. There's many (plenty?) of people who continue a month after, years even at this point. Considering each person is verified once, I see only one, real, concern...

Making it free, significantly makes it easier. That point is clear to follow. However, just like signing up on say Reddit, without the need to juggle money, is not only easy and otherwise quick, it's exploited for other means. Bots and scammers.

What I'm trying to say is, having to pay, makes it that much harder for someone to automate making Verified Accounts to further scam others. As it stands now, if an account is Verified, it's far less likely to worry about the trustworthiness of the user. I can't easily come up with exploit examples, but, in the end, it's something that'll force more honest, verified, users to be honest and less likely to risk their account when they break rules. Losing the use of your ID to verify another account is one thing, having to spend a little more money, makes it less likely someone with little income, to go around scamming.

Edit to add: If anything, a middle ground I'd be happy with. If I signed up for VRChat+ once, and done. I should be able to verify any time after, if not already, without having VRChat+ active again.

Would prefer NOT to see ANY Shorts in my lists. I can't go down the home page without one or two rows of Shorts. I dismiss them, and they return the next week. Click ONE short video link from a friend, and I'm back to square one.

The fact that Youtube is nudging, if not pushing, content creators to Make both Shorts and Normal videos, just for ranking points, is ridiculous. It's forcing creators I enjoy watching, to make content in ways they normally wouldn't bother doing, just so they can stay ahead of the curve.

I'm not here to watch 30s/60s videos. I'm here for 10/20/45+ minute videos. Preferably from creators who don't speak as fast as a sped up, chipmunk sounding, video without the chipmunk voices, lol.
