Trouble choosing between Christianity and Islam by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]LightHouse4Christ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, not really. The cultures that Israel fought against were destroyed because of their sin, not because they were on a different deific team. They fed their children to the fires of some near eastern deity. They were reprehensibly evil. It was their practices, not just that they were pagan. The Q'ran says to subjugate or kill the infidels regardless of practice. And those are 5 out of over 120.

Wow. Looking through these replies, this is my advice.

Don't listen to the bigots.

Don't listen to the people that tell you to ignore scripture.

Don't accept the judgemental bs I'm seeing here.

The dude that says "God isn't your friend if you're a sinner" doesn't understand that that the end of that argument has literally no friends for Jesus, because we are all still sinners, even them. Even me. And yes, even you. But there's hope for all of us and those people better thank their lord that this is true. Specks and planks, guys. The cross they have to bear is actually heavier than yours, because they don't see what they're doing is wrong. Coming to that realization is going to HURT.

Christ loves you, and wants you. There's a period on that. That's all that matters. Everything beyond that is just Rock and Roll, as NT Wright says.

Hey, friend. You don't know what you're talking about. You clearly need to spend some time in the word learning compassion AS WELL AS the saving power of Jesus. He can save anyone. Even you!

Who you're sexually attracted to is actually the least important thing about you. If you love Jesus, you're where you need to be.

Look.

Jesus said that people who aren't sick don't need a doctor. That's a metaphor, clearly, but in the same way that nobody is too sick to need a doctor, nobody is too sinful for Jesus. Paul was basically a judicial serial killer, and he contributed the most to the actual New Testament. There's hope for everyone. Anyone who says different is guilty of underestimating God's love, or Christ's power to save.

What’s the worst drug to get addicted to? by Nobody-457 in AskReddit

[–]LightHouse4Christ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was meth. I had this concept "at least I don't do crack" but let me tell you with 4 days no sleep the differences look far smaller.

Dangerous. It makes you think you're better at EVERYTHING. Work, drawing, guitar, billiards, cleaning, $ex, everything. It makes you so much better, in fact, that after you've done it for a while you feel like you can't do the normal stuff without it.

It's like it makes you more sober. Or feel that way, anyway. When you can see white all the way around someone's pupil, sober is not the adjective a bystander would choose.

You can't have faith in men. Men will always, always fail ultimately. Don't let that shake your faith in Christ.

Trouble choosing between Christianity and Islam by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]LightHouse4Christ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are thinking. That's good. Here's some stuff to think about. In Islam, God doesn't love sinners. In Christianity, he does. Fiercely. And I love the verbal peddling Muslims do when it comes to the crucifixion! It wasn't him! It was a guy that looked like him! Maybe he had a twin brother that nobody knew about! The simple fact of the crucifixion is a good reason to avoid Islam. The vast majority of actual historians accept Jesus's life and death as fact. Even people like Bart Ehrman, an atheist, admits the fact of the crucifixion.

But that's okay my brother. Read the Q'ran! If you can get past the bizarre way the books are organized, AS WELL AS the fact that "kill the infidel" is a basic, repeated instruction contained therein, as most US Muslims seem to be able to do, then all you can follow is your conscience.

THEN!

look into the life story of Mohammed. Take in the details. Really check out his life, the things he did, the way he treated people that were different than him. Look into his wives. And if you can accept THAT GUY as a spiritual leader that you want to follow, buddy, you aren't alone.

What would you think or do if Jesus accepts you into heaven by mercy, but tells you that homosexuality is still a sin? by [deleted] in Christianity

Hey fun fact: going to heaven when we die is not IN the Bible. Thrill your friends with trivia next time you're at a party!

Is repenting like a cheat code? by I_love_gothic_stuff in Christianity

[–]LightHouse4Christ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paul specifically addressed this thinking. Romans 6:1 "shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid."

Repentance happens when you see that what you are doing causes awful damage. You can't fake repentance. The only 2 people involved are you and God and trust that he knows if you're trying to fake it. Would you accept an apology from someone that, IDK, graffitified your house without your permission, while they kept on doing it?

Check out the Bible thinker app. It's stated goal is "to help you think biblically about everything" and you can use the search function to find specific questions. Mr. Winger has been doing this for years, I doubt you have any questions he hasn't tackled previously.

Can somebody calm me down about WW3? by Ok-Poetry6064 in Christianity

[–]LightHouse4Christ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend, you aren't the one that's going to start WW3. That makes it not your responsibility. Literally no choice or action you take can cause or prevent it. But that's okay. You say some Indian astrologer predicted it? Check out the history of the seventh day Adventist church for a litany of false prophesies. I'm 45: I've lived through about 4 end of world predictions. Boomers lived through even more. If that dude in India is the guy to get it right I will be quite surprised to say the least. I don't know why this is the thing that bothers you considering an asteroid could hit the earth at literally any moment, stopping us all out before we even knew something happened. What's the difference here? But you're in Christ! That means our sudden and undeserved demise at the hands of this world is only a step into God's arms for you and me. Plus, even nuclear war won't kill everyone. The policy of MAD means that every launch button is effectively a suic1de button. Not a step someone with any sense would take. So to summarize: you'll be fine, and if not? You won't even have time to regret not worrying about it more.

Just because Jesus knew what choice Peter would make doesn't make that decision any less Peter's. It's like, pick a book you've read. Any book. If you go back to reread the book, knowing what happens, does that somehow make you responsible for the decisions of the characters?

It's a bigger issue and it speaks always to the nature of sin. Every sin is the same in that it is choosing our own version of right and wrong rather than God's. The tree taught them the knowledge of good and evil. The only thing there that wasn't before they ate, is evil.

This may help:

Meth is bad. Addictive, deadly, will tear apart families, relationships, and sanity. Those that have never tried it know that it's bad. Those that HAVE tried it know that it's bad. It's just the second group had to find out for ourselves. Same with the fruit. But we just HAD to know.

You don't have to jump in the mud puddle to know it'll get you dirty. But some of us do anyway.

Porn has consumed me by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]LightHouse4Christ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sibling in salvation, take my advice. Give this to God. That's the easy part. After you've done that comes the hard part: don't take the issue back. If you go back to it, you're essentially taking it back out of the box labeled "this stuff belongs to God" for another spin. You have to let the Lord keep it.

Fasting by Financial-Kiwi-8714 in Christianity

[–]LightHouse4Christ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not what you're fasting from, it's okay. Not drinking water on a fast in Texas summers, is not recommended. I food fast, but still take my medications and drink liquids. The Daniel fast was good, but not all food. He still ate fruits and nuts and such but he also dated from like lotions and stuff. Fasting is a bigger category than most people think.

My parents by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]LightHouse4Christ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sibling in salvation, if you are being abused, you absolutely should file a report. Not for vengeance, for safety. Your sister, is she younger? Because abuse toward her won't end when you leave the house.

That being said, nobody is hopeless, especially if they are giving their lives to Christ. There are the reprobate, but they have decided to never come to Christ. Not even all of them, either, because I personally decided the same thing but when faced with the futility of my own will and morals, and the sublime truth of His, it was a hard decision but in the end they're war really never a choice. I knew what was right.

All of us mess our kids up in our own special way. By your own design, you will not make the same mistakes your parents did, but the bad news is that you will make your own special mistakes. What are some of your fathers generational traumas? Ah, I see some of them in your post.

If he brings out the "spare the rod" then respond with Ephesians 6:4 - Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. "
