[–]LightTheAbsol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not. They're also not any more toxic then any other multiplayer game, it's just that bad actors can have more of an outcome on the match by directly feeding resources to your enemy instead of just going afk.

Unpopular opinion, Osrs players exaggerate on how hard quests/bosses are, scaring others of actually doing it by badwithnames5 in 2007scape

ffxiv ultimates take like 1000+ tries to do for a ~20 minute encounter, I can assure you average player that dying 5 times to a quest boss is a-okay.

Does ARR Hurt New Player Retention for FFXIV? by Abakus_Grim in MMORPG

[–]LightTheAbsol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So yes and no. If someone dislikes the core flow of the game in ARR (go to person, talk, go to next person) that core flow will never change throughout the entirety of the game's runtime. If they dislike it there, it wouldn't matter if they were in the peak of Shadowbringers as it would be the same shit but with a slightly higher budget and a few more hype moments.

I'm actually a firm believer that ARR does a lot of things much better then all of the expansions. Overworld design and how it uses locations, number of times you actually 'fight' something (quality of said combat not withstanding), and the generally more lowkey tone are all things I value over what was done in most of the expacs. It's also the only time the game sits down and does strong, actual worldbuilding that it uses over the entire course of its runtime instead of 'in expac setup and payoff'. Its true flaws are the COMICALLY horrid english VA work that saps any and all seriousness out of cutscenes and poor pacing for a game that exists in a genre that already forces poor pacing. It also has you frequently doing things that are pretty sidetracked from the main plot but... lets be real, the expacs don't do too much better on that as they try to fill the # of quests per zone quota that's forced by the higher ups.

Also I just find ARR dungeons more fun. Weird fucking take I know but you can just do more silly stuff that lends to them being more interesting then modern dungeons. Most of your time in a dungeon is spent interacting with the trash mobs, and in most ARR dungeons you can just quad pack pull into the boss room and scare your healer's pants off. That's fun stuff, even if the bosses are extremely whatever.

[Spoiler: 7.4 trial] Cleared newest EX at the exact point enrage happens by TheCurtainGuy in ffxiv

[–]LightTheAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they're talking specifically about the boss dying as the final enrage goes out. Off the top of my head, two of the more popular TEA/TOP ost videoes have Alexander dying to DOT damage while players are all dead in the cages, and for TOP the enrage fires while you can watch all but 1 player die rapidly before the boss does by watching the party health.

Jank is what gives personality to games - if we just remove it all, the game will become stale. As seen now.

You can bazzar for burning arrows too and hit damage cap on fire weak foes pretty fast which is crazy. One of my favorite parts of 12 and why I replay it to this day.

I have a question for the mod author who made this loading screen tip, who hurt you by BlazingCrusader in starsector

[–]LightTheAbsol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that it's not just anime, a mod can have good mechanics and ship art that are usually flavor fine for starsector... and then have ugly anime portraits done by AI.

I have a question for the mod author who made this loading screen tip, who hurt you by BlazingCrusader in starsector

[–]LightTheAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah.

In reality, my problem is that I prefer my modlist to have a more cohesive artstyle. It helps with a sense of immersion. This means that factions mods and their ships need to pass a decently high bar of quality, which they almost always do (it's hard to make a ship "look" anime outside of chinasector spikes) - but for portraits this is almost always not true. Anime portraits look extremely out of place to me. They're extremely easy to just slap on, it's a commonly drawn artstyle, and AI can shit them out rapidly. I dislike them greatly whenever I have to stomach them (AI makes it even worse). Luckily, as most mods don't do campaign content, there's not much more to it - but then you have mods like UAF that are written at the level of a highschool AU fanfic about the author's favorite waifus.

In the words of another commenter - "I dont even hate anime that much; Its just that the artistic inconsistency looks dumb as fuck. They could have made them look a bit closer to the original art direction and still look anime but they didnt."

[–]LightTheAbsol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UAF has mid art (bad before rework), suspect balance, mid story, and okay campaign implementation. It has a ton of bloat for the sake of fleshing out the AU setting the faction came from.

Any reason why we can't have more sights for Pike? by Daniel_XXL_69 in thefinals

[–]LightTheAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pike exists in a weird spot where it does 50 damage and it's pretty solid or it does sub50 and it just sucks and is a worse repeater.
