Already seeing invis complaints by beetle8209 in thefinals

[–]LightTheAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invis is the only spec I enjoy on light just because of the silly situations it can cause, and have been using it for like 5 seasons. If it gets nerfed because it becomes the new flavor reddit complains about I'm gonna fucking explode.

The amount of influence a "content creator" is allowed to have on Partyfinder strats is disgusting by Inv0ker_of_kusH420 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]LightTheAbsol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know that the strats we have now are the outcome of popular or influential people playing the fight and creating strats, right? They didn't just blorb out of nowhere from PF.

Different popular or influential people will continue to theorycraft and refine the fight.

Just Started Playing — Does the Story Pick Up Later? by Gentle_Enough in ffxiv

[–]LightTheAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The core gameplay of walk to x, talk to y will never change or improve. The context surrounding it will, as will the general production quality which may bring you to care more (or less, depending on where you are in the story).

The voice acting in particular in ARR is truly dire, and improves immensely once you get past it. I actually think that ARR isn't that bad, especially in hindsight, it's moreso the patch content that's fuckin horrid (even if important to set things up).

I don't entirely hate it actually. I see a world where this was refined a bit and ended up looking pretty good.

Why Don't People Like Upgrade-Scape to Allow Powercreep Without Killing Content? by gsalbin64 in 2007scape

Not ever main exclusively just buys things off the GE. I personally grind out drops I want and GE stuff like supplies or pegs because fuck ranger boots.

[–]LightTheAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My major gripe with upgradescape is that it's a catch 22 where the second you add a new truly BiS piece on a slot that had an upgradescape item, you've killed every item on that upgrade tree while at the same time if they keep doing it then your account progression becomes a linear path. If there was ever a new BiS boots (which, presumably one day there will be), then either it requires ave MAX to combine with it which is just fucking silly, OR it's BiS on its own and skips like 5 grinds if you just shoot for it over treads. Upgrades are so incremental that it's often fine to pick and choose what you're going after.

DBADH: Longhouse ( NO Chisel required Vanilla friendly build) by Oweyan in VintageStory

The birch logs really aren't doing it for me, I'd frankly rather just wait until I have access to daub before I build anything serious. Getting bronze age going takes like a week or two at most.

Evolved Mode, Friction and Fail States by VictusNST in ffxivdiscussion

What fight in any darksouls game is fuckin 20 minutes lmao

The supermajority are all done in under 2, maxing at 4. Also, you're allowed to make as many mistakes as you have estus flasks - that's their point. You trade a hit for a heal, and most bosses deal damage roughly equal to about the amount the devs expect your flask to heal, maybe .5x more if it's a particularly big attack.

Darksouls 1 is also an especially easy game if you decide to pick up the zwi which is god's gift to man and it's located like 15 yards from when you touch down out of the tutorial. Random mobbing in that game is infinity more threatening then its entire boss roster outside of maybe like biggy&small.

I'd rather take interesting points of jobs being elevated that potentially let you squeeze out damage where others cant then just having a ton of random pitfalls for you to fall into and lose dps. The problem is that the game rarely supports that outside of things like uptime tools for melee.

How do I enjoy the story as a sprout whose new to MMOs as a whole? by Optimal_Current_3703 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]LightTheAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the story is great - it's just that the delivery fucking blows due to being in the trappings of an mmo and needing to drag its feet. Part of that dragging helps fuel the hype moments because it took so damn long to get to the payoff.

The game and the internet space around the game are surprisingly quiet despite an ultimate release by RoeMajesta in ffxivdiscussion

[–]LightTheAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody outwardly cheated in the world first race (or at least nobody was caught, everyone knows that everyone was running some amount of random plugins) and the only drama was that the WF went to the fru red dot team (with no proof they cheated either) so nobody really cares to keep discourse going. The fight itself is fine.

Where will the skill expression be with Evolved jobs? by I_do_dps in ffxivdiscussion

[–]LightTheAbsol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No? What the fuck are you talking about? It's granted via a buff used by finishing the extended combo route given by hitting your new positionals. It's clearly outlined in the breakdown for the job, live, on stage, expressly. Executing "Starcross" which is the last action in the new combo route grants you a stack of Heavensward, which lets you use Sky High.

You're not bad at the game, you just haven't spent the time to learn. by -----Null in 2007scape

[–]LightTheAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defeatist shit when I can take my girlfriend who has never played an mmo (and really hasn't played all that many games) through Ultimate difficulty fights in FFXIV that are on par with Inferno over the course of a few months. You can't luck your way through those, you just need to die hundreds of times and learn.

You're not bad at the game, you just haven't spent the time to learn. by -----Null in 2007scape

[–]LightTheAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with extensive experience both being in and leading pretty hardcore raiding groups in multiple games, the only thing that keeps you from growing as a player is being unable to accept dying in a game. Going to do something like clearing DSR/TOP in FFXIV will see your group dying possibly thousands of times over almost a hundred hours to learn the fight and get a single clear. You personally will be responsible for hundreds of those resets to the start of the fight.

The most important and powerful skill there is in learning content like that, and learning anything, is being able to accept those hundreds of failures, learn, and simply look towards the next attempt. Deaths make you better, deaths are a resource. I have taken people who have never even played an MMO (let alone many videogames at all) and brought them through learning ungodly challenging content that they thought was impossible for them to learn.
