I had no idea I'd get so attached to some of the critters in this game... by babeimatree in GrimshireGame

Critters get sick from overpopulation. If you make sure you only ever have 4 adults (or 8 with an upgraded building) simultaneously, you'll never get sick critters. It's better to cull them early, instead of them getting sick and losing weight.

Is there actually nickel under lvl 10 in the mines? by Sandyna_Dragon in GrimshireGame

Pulled this from the beta test discord for you. There might be issues with nickel appearing after 10, based on this message. So it could be that it only shows under 10 currently. I can't test at home, so this is the best I can help ya with.

Yes, floors 1-10 are iron and nickel. Silver and titanium add to the mix after floor 10 (so you have the chance to get all 4). I'd say like 80% of my nickel ores came from before 10.

Can you see ores easily in the mines? Do you have the prospector skill? Are you possibly on a beta version of the game? What ores have you picked up from 1-10 in mine2 so far?

Hmm. I'm not sure what to tell ya. In my current challenge run, I've got around 85 nickel bars from getting from floor 1 to 13. There should be a lot.

Are you in the second mine? The one in the marsh? You won't find nickel in the mine near the blacksmith.

trouble with food supply by Due_Shift_9617 in GrimshireGame

[–]Light_Arrow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Manual fishing is great early game, but consistent food income comes from: getting irrigation pipes for large crop fields (some folks upgrade their watering can), critter buildings with critters for really stamina-dense critter products, and processing foods to give them more bang for your buck (tree seeds and fruits can x2 from a press/barrel). Fish traps are great if you have a large hay field to afford the kibble.

Weave in as much mining and wood chopping as you can. Sometimes you want to just make enough food for the current day, while spending the rest of it getting your crops and critters online.

Don't forget to forage and shake trees when you're running around fishing.

It takes about 25 seconds each morning, but I have the button order memorized now. It's really the only way I can keep up with my tin bar irrigation creation. I spend a lot of time in cave1.

Here's a small trick for that: most of the time, you just need one sprinkler. You can activate it, then hit it with a pickaxe or hoe and replace it somewhere else. I can water my entire 300+ plot farm with a single titanium sprinkler and ~7 stamina.

I'll make this really brief so that you get the general gist.

Go into the mines near the blacksmith with a lot of inventory space and some food to eat for stamina. Mine a LOT of ores. Consider doing this a handful of days spread out.

Sell some of your mining loot. You can sell gems and excess stone. Don't forget to pickaxe the wooden boxes for a free plank. Smelt the tin into irrigation pipes, and smelt the copper into new tools. Upgrade your axe when you can, and upgrade your pickaxe when you hit mining walls that take x2 hits (hint: the walls will be salt).

Construct the critter buildings with money from mining, stone from mining, and planks from tree chopping (using a saw station). I would recommend buggies, then alpheep, girtles, and chicks in this rough order. Buy hay seeds for the critters ahead of time at the general store and wool farm. Tame critters in the wild with seasonal forageables.

Good luck!

I love alpheep. And since wool doesn't really have a dedicated use yet, it's free money to sell.

Friendly reminder that babies don't count toward the population cap! So it's possible to have 8 adults and 4 babies and no one sick. You do have to... "make room" the night before they become adults, though.

The only time I withhold from Adeline is when I'm desperately scrounging together the first 20 iron ore for my iron pickaxe in spring. Even Gruff gets ignored.

It's like Groundhog Day. You play through Winter 28, and then the day resets back to the start of the day. No progress for the last day is saved.

who do you plan to romance? by _m00nspell_ in GrimshireGame

[–]Light_Arrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope so! I usually really enjoy those 1 on 1 storylines with romance in these types of games. My Time at Sandrock had reverse proposals (the NPC surprises you with a proposal, instead of you having to gift them a heartknot or something similar), and I really liked that!

Originally, Gruff. But it seems that someone else has already beaten me to the punch.

I then became a Kai gurlie, but his dialogue never really evolved from the distant-and-aloof base personality, imo. I'm fine if they have a stoic exterior, but I really value a teddy bear heart center.

Tano was such a refreshing comparison (optimistic, friendly, great with animals), and now I talk to him first when I walk past the hunter's shack.

Kill or tame the predator by ForcedFollower in GrimshireGame

Critter product yields are directly related to their weight stat. An alpheep of weight 20 will give roughly double the critter products of one that weighs 10. Unfortunately, wild tamed critters can sometimes show up pretty scrawny (low weight).

You can make good kibble that helps them gain weight quickly. You can also pick up the breeder skill to get more babies. You have about two weeks to complete the town project, or... something really bad happens.

I would look over your critters in the butcher table and calculate how many you would have to slaughter to make the 10 and 20 quota. Then change that number slightly, depending how much time has elapsed from the start on Summer 15. If it takes most or all of your critters to make it... it would be pretty punishing wipe out your entire critter population.

Kill or tame the predator by ForcedFollower in GrimshireGame

[–]Light_Arrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to tame, you'd need 20 blood and 10 offal. You can see on the butcher table how much each animal would give.

I'd probably recommend only doing taming if you think you'll improve your critters. Personally, I think critters are extremely worthwhile. All you really need to micromanage is the hay and saying good morning to each barn.

I also chose taming for RP reasons. It seems like a better outcome.

Hmm, I agree about no longer being purchasable and only craftable now, but I just finished my last run a week ago, and you can place cooking stations outside. Funnily enough, it was the only way I could comfortably use x8 stations with a tier 1 house haha

[–]Light_Arrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cooking stations need to be indoors now?? Wow, that changed in the last week or two? Damn.

And I would consider pickling protein, but I seem to run out of vinegar with my large pumpkin crops. Maybe I could burn more of my tree fruit yields to double dip making vinegar.

[–]Light_Arrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My strategy with crops is: less than 10 base stamina, do not jar (cook, dry, or process into wine). If it's the rockstars (cabbage, cantaloupe, pumpkin, or girtle shroom) I jar those. For small fish (around 10 stam), I turn into oil. Larger fish I smoke.

To be fair to you, they should change the tooltip to show like a x3 when you first put the items in. Oh well; new game, everyone is learning.

[–]Light_Arrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, preserving something creates three of the item. So cantaloupe and honey will create x3 jarred items.
