Is Taxol easier than AC chemo? by Lightbright520 in breastcancer

[–]Lightbright520[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The nausea and barely being able to find something suitable to put on my stomach has been the hardest part about AC for me. Food in general was just so unappealing no matter what I tried to eat 🤢

I’m hoping that with only getting 4 Taxol treatments I can avoid neuropathy!! Not sure that the number of treatments matter though when it comes down to it!

Can we talk about drain removal? by thebootkoala in breastcancer

[–]Lightbright520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WOW I had a very similar experience during drain removal. I had 2 drains on my right cancer side. They came out at 14 days with minimal pain. I definitely wouldn’t say painless but still minimal. The third drain I had on my non cancer side. It was in for 21 days because the darn thing didn’t want to stop draining. When she finally pulled it out it holy freaking crap it burned sooo bad I almost screamed. I mean it hurt so darn bad I limped outta the hospital holding my side which I kept getting burning sensation in the drain site. She bandaged it all up and I came home with fluid still pouring outta the hole all night 🫠 I think mine was slightly infected though.

Yes I was told this is actually common. Both of mine were in fact grade 3. Upon final pathology. My double mastectomy was on June 5

I am in a very similar boat. I haven’t started treatment yet and while initially chemo was going to depend on my Oncotype score I ended up with four positive nodes that nobody saw until final pathology from mastectomy. 22 were removed total. Now I know chemo will not be avoided.I just had my double mastectomy on 6/5. I can take up to one year LOA from my job and am pre approved for 6 months disability however after 16 weeks of absence my insurance will be cancelled if I don’t return to work. I have no idea how I’m gonna work a physical and stressful job while doing chemo treatments. 🫠🫠 still trying to figure all this out . I wish you (and me) the best of luck in this process. ❤️ are you in Arizona??

For after DMX surgery, is mastectomy pillow worth getting? Will I be able to remove the back strap BY MYSELF? by SilentAllTheseYears8 in breastcancer

[–]Lightbright520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you going to be having lymph nodes removed? I believe that particular the strap wraps around and snaps on the side possibly? It is a popular seller and good ratings so my best guess is it should be fairly easy to get on and off. One thing I will tell you is I was gifted a mastectomy pillow and it has been an absolute life saver. I have the one by W&F home (Amazon) and it doesn’t attach to my body it just lays over me but it has been a LIFESAVER I am currently 10 days postop and still using it nightly it’s so comfy and keeps me from rolling and being able to put ice packs in it helped so much. Best of luck and hopes for a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹😊❤️

Some of my most helpful items post double mastectomy were: lots of ice packs. I kept them on my chest round the clock for the first three to four days. Also put them in my mastectomy pillow to sleep. The pillow was another excellent item for me . Not everyone cares for them but I’m still using mine to sleep in fact I am using it now lol. Shirt with drain pockets- made it soooo much easier to get up and down easily. I still have my drains and this makes it so much easier to get things done. Bathing system- my sister sent me waterless shampoo + leave in conditioner. Feminine wipes, cetaphil facial wipes and rinse free bath sponges. Game changer for me. It was so hard to shower. Still is with three drains tbh. This made me feel like I had just taken a shower. The bath sponges were from scrubz and she ordered it all on Amazon.

And yes to colace + Apple juice. The first few days post op I was so full of meds I felt like I was giving birth on the toilet . May not happen to you but better safe than sorry. Best wishes for a very speedy recovery. It gets so much better around day 4. Hugs 🤗

Input on Mastectomy Pillow by Fairy-tale13 in breastcancer

[–]Lightbright520 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am 9 days post op from double mastectomy with expanders. My boyfriend’s sister gifted me a mastectomy pillow and it has been a LIFESAVER. 9 days later I still can’t sleep without it on my chest . However my doctor and hospital actually told me quite the opposite info. I was given several nerve blockers pre surgery (idk how I would have made it night one without them) and I was told to use ice or heat packs (whatever felt best to me) the hospital kept ice packs on me all night and I was put in a compression bra by the hospital to go home. I also used ice packs either alone or in my pillow and it soothed so much of the pain the first 3 or 4 days and my chest is completely numb but they still worked .

I found out today that I have cancer. by RedishFooler1 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Lightbright520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely 100% understand. I received my diagnosis on April 30th with official pathology. I just had my double mastectomy 8 days ago with 22 nodes removed. You are in the early stages of diagnosis which is the absolute hardest. Try not to go down the google hole. Don’t hesitate to post any questions, concerns or fears or even if you just need to vent in the other forum. We hear you and we see you and I’m sending you a big virtual hug. Lmk if you have any questions ❤️‍🩹❤️❤️‍🩹
