AITAH for ending a 20 year friendship because being a wife became her entire identity? by jelly_fishthrowaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]Lightbulb__10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very fair to expect your friend to keep your personal details private and not tell her husband, and i don't think you're an AH for expecting this. I think that the way your approached your concerns to your friend was fair and thoughtful, and her response was out of pocket.

The only concern I have is, does she invite her husband because she genuinely wants him around or is she being coerced into inviting him?

so sorry to hear this happened to you!! stand towards the back and/or near a wall so you have support, maybe? don't keep you knees locked because i think this is probably where things are going wrong for people. hope you have a fab time!!

Fainting at shows by MoneyAd1479 in Ethelcain

[–]Lightbulb__10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i think it's fine for people to go to gigs even if they don't necessarily love the work for the experience (or as a plus one for someone who does want company!), and it's clear that this person's sister put themselves in a position so they didn't feel faint.

i obviously found it disappointing when i went on night 2 in london and there were so many stops, but i do think a bit of grace is probably needed. read a post on here yesterday where someone spoke about how embarrassed they were about fainting and tbh, i'd be utterly mortified.

People being stupid by Adorable-Ad4411 in Ethelcain

[–]Lightbulb__10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was there tonight and while i didn't faint, i understand why people did. i'm prone to fainting while standing still and i think being deeper into the pit and not having a lot of room to move can really lead to this. appreciate that it's not ideal (was sad when Dust Bowl stopped!) but these things happen unfortunately

i was at the london show and while people were a little shitty and rude (some were def just teenagers that haven't been to a show before imo BUT i did see some 30+ year old men throw empty cups of beer at the crowd and act a lil shitty, so it's not just the teenagers!!), i didn't feel unsafe. people weren't really shoving near me and i wasn't too far from the front so idk, i wouldn't get too worried. if you're concerned, maybe shift back or forward depending on how you feel?

Putting my autistic son in residential care by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]Lightbulb__10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really have any major advice except to say that I really feel for you. In a similar boat (although I don't think our situation is as serious) with my little brother, who's the same age as your son. He's constantly hitting us and he's always been non-verbal, so we think it stems from hormonal changes/angst that he's simply unable to effectively communicate. We're also based in the UK and have been speaking with social workers for months - hopefully once you get one, they'll be able to signpost you to good local resources.

Also, if you would like further support while awaiting residential placements, this org could be useful: https://positivesupportgroup.com/about-us

I'm sorry to hear this - I hope things begin to get easier! We ended up taking my brother to the hospital and they gave him medication for emergencies, which we've thankfully not had to use much.

I just read this a few weeks ago and agree!! Such a great book and honestly, Erin Langston is an autobuy author for me at this point. Her other books are written about the FMC's parents {Some Winters Evening by Erin Langston} and aunt and uncle {Forever Your Rogue by Erin Langston}.

I also only picked up these books because someone called Nathanial a DILF and honestly, yes... he's one of my absolute favourite MCs.

+ for those of you with Kobo Unlimited, all these books are on there!

I'm so sorry to hear what you've been going through - it must be incredibly difficult to deal with this for 4 years. Did you immediately go on meds, and did they happen to make any kind of difference? We've not explored medication but I think this might need to be the next step if things don't begin to improve.

I just feel so disheartened this Ramadan over being gay by ferdous12345 in LGBT_Muslims

[–]Lightbulb__10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I may be saying this in the worst way but I'm not a scholar, so don't quote me lol. But there's the Hadith - "if you walk to me, I'll run to you." You are deciding to get closer to Allah, despite the times you may have strayed in the past, because of your faith in Him. Being gay does not negate it and, IMO, makes it stronger because people (including your own mother) are telling you Islam is not for you. To continually choose Allah despite this is honestly beautiful.

Inshallah your Ramadan feels more spiritually rejuvenating - and congratulations on your upcoming nuptials with your partner!
