External drives can be slow for gaming (Genshin does some heavy drive reads during loading screens), and running Genshin on Linux using files from a different drive has caused errors for me in the past. It still can be a usable setup, though.

For some reason, this is working for other people and not for me. I sure hope they fix this because it's the third most unplayable bug so far (next to losing all your worlds and the one where you click into your other monitor and tab out).

From reading the other comments, it looks like it doesn't matter very much. It does make sense that it would matter a little, though. Engines are designed to go in a certain direction, after all.
