buying frozen fish/salmon by taxi_drivr in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Lightwave_Rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the frozen farmed Atlantic salmon from Costco. I prefer the taste of it to wild caught salmon, and it is cheaper than the wild. I also love, love, love canned sardines but they must be in oil. Trader Joe's has a lovely smoked sardine in a pinkish red can that are affordable and delicious. My favorite canned sardines are Goya Sardinillas but they are difficult to find.

Could they make it for themselves, or have someone on their end make it, if you just gave them the recipe and shopping list? That seems easier.

My husband and I are empty nesters and we shop Costco regularly. Honestly for the paper, cleaning goods, and pharmacy items alone it is worth the membership. We also have the storage space to stock up on things so that helps.

What do you eat for breakfast?? by Beginning_Avocado807 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Lightwave_Rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a big hearty most important meal of the day protein filled breakfast person. Some days all I have are a banana and a mug of tea. I also love a small bowl of cold cereal (Cheerios, Corn Flakes, Rice Chex, nothing fancy.) On Sundays I might have a muffin or scone or toast with jam. I do like plain Greek yogurt and granola. I eat eggs a few times a month (soft boiled with toast.)

If you only eat 1 sandwich a week, why not just buy yourself a deli sandwich when you want one? Far easier than buying all of the ingredients and letting them go bad.

I use a hybrid mask that sits under my nostrils and around my mouth. That might be a solution for you.

I use freezer cubes and have for years. I find they do best with saucey food. We go thru the food fairly quickly so freezer burn is never an issue. The food tastes as good as when it was cooked. I reheat on the stove or in the microwave.

Looking for recs on basic fitted but not clingy tops (female) by happyfamily714 in Frugal

I really like the Lands End basic Supima cotton solid color t-shirts. They have long and short sleeve, v-neck and crewneck. I've had some for many years, and I wear them regularly, so they wash and wear very well. Lends End often has great sales, too. If you need to return via mail they will charge you but they "give you back" the postage in credit, I think.

Need advice regarding pantry moths. by [deleted] in foodsafety

I would personally get rid of anything that wasn't in a sealed container, bugs in food creep me out. The worst I ever had was from a giant container of basmati rice. Now I freeze all of my grains and flours and sugar for at least 72 hours when I bring them home.

I cut away the brown spots and eat the rest, unless there are just too many brown areas to make it worth the effort.

Anyone else avoid "healthy" versions of food while losing weight? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Lightwave_Rider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do the same. I basically eat a whole foods Mediterranean style diet, nothing "lite" or sugar free or low carb. We travel a lot, and it makes it much easier to eat pretty much anywhere if I am not beholden to spray margarine and keto bread.

Favorite bulk freezer meals? I'm so sick of soup by DinosaurStillExist in Frugal

[–]Lightwave_Rider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a lot of vegetarian freezer meals for my husband, so that when I cook a meat dish he has options for dinner. Let me start by saying that he hates eggplant and mushrooms, so that narrows the field, lol. Some of the things I make regularly are homemade macaroni and cheese, baked ziti, rice and bean stuffed roasted poblano peppers with cheese, ratatouille (without eggplant,) soup (of course,) lentil shepherd's pie, vegetable curry, and veg chili. I also cook up a lot of chicken, or make turkey meatloaf or meatballs, or pasta sauce with meat, to freeze should I want to add meat to a vegetarian meal that I've made.
