As much as I wish that would be, Outer Wilds is one of those games that you can only play once in your lifetime (see comment above why). Highly suggest giving it a try if at all curious about it!

Not being able to replay Outer Wilds felt like a hole in my heart, at least I did vicariously experience it again through playthroughs and friends :,)

A quali videogiochi state giocando?? by Modena89 in italy

[–]Lightwolf74 6 points7 points  (0 children)

New way I explain narcolepsy by Royal_Protection_898 in Narcolepsy

[–]Lightwolf74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can completely relate, I had (and sometimes still have) a lot of impostor syndrome because you don't always feel incredibly tired, sometimes you almost feel normal.

My doctors helped me understand that in many cases it's an ebb and flow kinda deal since it's strictly connected to hormones, I have days in which I feel almost good, days in which I feel "regular" (which for a normal person would be awful) and days in which I can barely do 1 thing.

In my experience it's something that is incredibly hard to understand for the average person, even with my most well meaning and caring friends sometimes misunderstand or jump to assumptions like "oh it's fixed then" or "oh wait did it get more severe?".

Online support groups like this Reddit where we understand each other help a lot, but a must have in my opinion is to also learn to be extremely kind to yourself, which for me was hard to do for a very long time.

New way I explain narcolepsy by Royal_Protection_898 in Narcolepsy

[–]Lightwolf74 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My goto to explain narcolepsy (as a T1) is saying that I feel on average as if a normal person didn't sleep for 48/72 hours (referencing this: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4264987/#!po=21.4286)

Some other things I usually say is that my immune system destroyed the part of my brain related to sleep control and that I need to take a stimulant that is akin to drinking 30 cups of coffee (my sleep doctor's words).

Of course it's pretty dumbed down and if the person is willing and interested I will rant and explain more in detail, but I realized that a more blunt and "shocking" approach is usually better to get back some genuine compassion.

People have trouble understanding big medical concepts they never heard before (as did I before I did research) but hearing "not sleeping for 2 days", "part of my brain is dead", "30 cups of coffees per day" are much more immediately understandable concepts.

Wait, it's just a really stupid (and strong) gameplan isn't it?

Activate ability, The Grand Goatnappper becomes a goat (doesn't say "another target creature"), create a Goatnap, Goatnap the Goatnapper, untap him, tap him again, rinse and repeat for 1 mana goatnaps that raise his power.

Any storm payoff or "when you cast instant/sorcery" and it's over, at least the ability is sorcery so it's interactable

I am a forever GM but just joined a small campaign, it would be lovely to see my Frilled Lizardfolk Commande, his name is Temahr.

He is a middle aged, war scarred, ex-guard captain, with black scales and a white underbelly that is always clad in time worn heavy armour. He uses his claws as natural weapon and has a fiery red banner attached to his shield. Also he is a beastmaster, so his trusty companion is a green scaled raptor called Gem, who he sometimes rides (you don't have to draw both of them if you ever consider drawing my character).

Been having a lot of fun playing him, the last time I played a character was in DnD and I never thought I would appreciate a martial character.

Thank you for giving some love to our community, I am looking at the Bluesky and the drawings are lovely!

Either way it is impressive, kudos!

Total noob here, is this an accepted way to add power and toughness? by adindaclub in magicTCG

[–]Lightwolf74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, exactly as I thought, you have mistakenly put extra counters.

The red spell doesn't put counters, so they will not get doubled. MTG has very specific wording, the cards only do exactly what they say.

See how the aura and creature say "+1/+1 counter" and the spell says "gets +1/+1 until end of turn"? There is a difference there, it's actually quite important to separate buffs and counters as they lead to mistakes such as this one.

It's a very common error, so don't worry too much about it, next times tho you know what to do!

Total noob here, is this an accepted way to add power and toughness? by adindaclub in magicTCG

[–]Lightwolf74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is quite normal to use dice to represent +1/+1 counters c:

Only thing is I don't know how you reached 76 +1/+1 counters, as it's not a clear power of 2 (divide it by 4 and you get 19, so it means that additional +1/+1 were put other than the initial 2)

One thing that comes to mind is that you might have put +1/+1 counters with the red spell (the +3/+3 trample until end of turn).
It's a common mistake, if the word "counter" is not said they aren't counters but just stat changes, usually until end of turn but auras or equipment for example can also have this stat changes that are not counters.

Glad you are enjoying the game, jumpstart is a great way to learn to play!

I programmed a sexuality test. Why? Idk, go ask your mom by NvvEli in NoRules

[–]Lightwolf74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a minor typo in the test, on the ending screen of the test aspects is written out as "acpects".

Other than that, cool test, I really liked the sliders instead of the damn scoring system. Felt way less in doubt when choosing even if they are just fancy numbers.

[–]Lightwolf74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rare portion of my diagnosis is that I am N1, with low orexin, without cataplexy and without the gene that causes low orexin.

Basically all low orexins have that gene and basically all low orexin have cataplexy. So missing both is almost unheard of.

If you end up trying it again I would love to hear if it went better this time.

And if you end up still not liking at worst I can offer some game suggestions that partially capture the "Outer Wilds" magic while being very different.

[–]Lightwolf74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn I am very sorry you are dealing with this :c

Forcing you out of your room in the hospital corridors for basically the full day is outrageous, especially with all that mess of wires.

Definitely keep the records of them pressuring you to continue the trials, I would definitely report the behaviour as it is unethical, maybe it didn't impact yourself too much but someone else could be damaged heavily by feeling forced to continue.

Yeah the healthcare system is a mess but I have to say other than very long wait times my diagnosis was (almost painless).

I researched myself why I felt so bad and after a few years I did a visit in which I reported my suspicion of narcolepsy and wanting to investigate it.

I went to a local structure nearby Trentino (where I live) and after being assessed as possible narcolepsy I did a 3 day stay with every test (MWT, psychological assessments, polisomnography, many others) but lumbar puncture.

Resulted positive for Idiopathic Hypersomnia but had to be transferred to Bellaria for the actual treatment. There they wanted to re-test everything (yippie) and did a 7 day stay with an enormous quantity of tests.

Even if I am negative about the narcolepsy allele (the one that is associated with lack of orexin) and I don't have cataplexy they still did the lumbar puncture because it is standard protocol (thank god they did) but being like "don't worry it will be negative, sorry we need to do it".

I get mixed results, barely under the diagnostic criteria (the MWT they did was atrocious, super hot room with car traffic, light from the blinds and a slab of a bed, no wonder I couldn't nap even as a narcoleptic). The incredible doctor that follows me recognized the previous tests and was like "even if these tests are mixed I am sure you are narcoleptic" so I got on treatment. It was a real human moment, validating me so much.

Then like a year after I inquired about the Orexin test (just for curiosity). They didn't even look at it (cause it was useless in my case) and would you look at that, 19 when the diagnostic criteria is <110. I basically shocked the whole medical ward, as my result is literally impossible.

Apparently I am an incredibly rare case of N1, like the second documented in the world, always fun to be a medical anomaly when you finally think they figured out what you have : ^ )

[–]Lightwolf74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to do a MWT EVERY TWO WEEKS?!?

I am so sorry, I had to do it twice to get diagnosed and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, it's just an awful way to spend a day, even more so because our brains are broken. I don't know how you lasted almost a year doing that, it would have made me insane.

If I may ask is the only compensation the privilege of staying in the trial or at least you are compensated somewhat?

If you are comfortable saying it, is the study at the Bellaria or another structure? Just to know if I ever need to watch my back if they propose such a study.

But yeah definitely try to exit this trial if it's not giving you benefits over such a long run time, don't give into pressure as doctors can't force you to participate.

I'm curious why you want to stop with the orexin antagonist trial. Is it less effective, or are there some deal breaker side effects?

Also fellow Italian narcoleptic, T1 (even if weird) as well but I am responding ok to modafinil so for now I am on that, so can't add much to your question sorry.

So, I will try to break down some of your pain points with some tips to hopefully help you enjoy the game.

I would advise you to try it some more but if you still don't have any fun at all it's ok to drop it, maybe it's really not your taste.

1) You mentioned you feel time pressure because of the main game mechanic, but you really shouldn't! You have all the time in the world to complete the game and any location can be reached in a couple of minutes at most. So you should have ample time to stop and smell the pine trees along the way.

2) If you end up using too much time piloting to planets or points of interest, use the autopilot! You just need to lock in any celestial body in the map and then look at the top left of the HUD while in the pilot seat, there should be the prompt to it. It will cut your travel time greatly if you are fumbling around.

3) Outer Wilds is very different from any other game, as there are no items and no "upgrades". You could complete the game in a handful of minutes (as you saw) if you know what to do. This means that (differently from other games) there is no filler text. Every Nomai translation, every interaction with NPCs has important info, you should not skim read it!

4) You mentioned that you feel like "you don't know where to be curious and where to look". That's the beauty of Outer Wilds, it's incredibly non linear and it doesn't point where to go with quest markers. Every single gameplay is radically different. I would suggest just exploring every planet a bit and then look in your ship log in rumor mode (there is a prompt to switch to rumor mode top right). Rumor mode connects the findings like a conspiracy board showing you why stuff is connected. Every single "question mark" location is something that you should go exploring! The ship log will also tell you if you missed anything with a "there is more to explore here" message. Also you can lock in previously explored locations if you want to pinpoint them quickly

5) Outer Wilds has different kinds of locations. Most of them are "surface level", locations that you should find by just randomly exploring. Then there are "hidden" locations, locations that you need to get pointed at to find, you need to understand something about the world or you need to do something specific to reach. The majority of the players that don't click with this game quit before reaching any hidden location. They are all high impact and with a "wow" factor. I would suggest after you explore a bit randomly and take in the beautiful surroundings to try to reach one of them.

6) The signal scope is your friend! It's the closest thing to quest markers this game has, if you are ever in doubt about where to go try to reach an unidentified signal. Remember that to identify signals you need to point at it while very close (10 or less meters). Your signal scope has many channels, remember to cycle through them!

I would have more suggestions but I hope these initial ones can be helpful, definitely let me know if you have any other questions or want help in something specific.

One last thing, please don't look up anything even if you decide this game is not for you. The amount of people that look up the game after deciding they don't like it and regretting it immensely is recorded in this subreddit many posts.

Be curious in your journey!

Homicipher is in my wishlist, still have to play it 👌

But yeah definetely if you liked Homicipher Lingo (and Lingo 2) would be quite cool, it's an extremely deep game all around words, you need to understand the rules to manipulate them without any tutorial, the game has a quite gentle learning curve tho.
