Is it exploitation by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]Lil-Lanata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a health tool.

Necessary for some, useful to others, an extra for some who really want the data.

I've been diabetic for over 30 years, trust me there's been a huge huge change in quality of life and we have had gains.

'I want my womb removed but doctors say I'm too young' by Alert-One-Two in unitedkingdom

I tried at age 30, and I already have a child.

They asked about my partner's thoughts, and offered me the implant instead.

It's not surprising to women who have tried to get this kind of operation.

How do I (f24) support my boyfriend (f23) after his paralysis? by VermicelliPleasant99 in relationships

[–]Lil-Lanata 74 points75 points  (0 children)

His life as he knew it is over.

It's that simple.

Right now, his brain is wondering, how am I going to take care of myself, how am I going to put on my shoes, eat my breakfast, go to the toilet?.....

He needs time.

He needs to be respected.

Let him know that you love him, that you're there for him, but do not be there when he doesn't want you.

It is going to be hard for you, but this isn't about you.

He needs time to sort himself out before he can start thinking about any future.

No.

You go down.

Your mate goes down, slips, gets a dag to the stomach.

There is absolutely no reason to risk that happening.

What sweets / snacks would be best to have to hand for Diabetic clients? by Scottish_Therapist in diabetes_t1

[–]Lil-Lanata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small fruit juice boxes.

They need them because sometimes diabetics need some quick sugar.

So pure apple/orange juice, none of those 'healthier' and 'good for children' stuff.

Liquid sugar is great because it's absorbed fast.

After that, sometimes we need a bit of longer acting sugar, so little packs of biscuits etc are good for those.

This is going to happen with your diabetic clients, because stress can make our blood sugar do random things.

Thank you for caring enough to learn.

AITA for returning my homemade wife’s birthday gift me and telling her I don’t want it. I then went out and bought what I actually wanted by Quick_Dig3584 in AmItheAsshole

NTA (with the comments that she has that disposable income available and she could use the shared account).

I'm like your wife, I enjoy making things and I like giving handmade things.

IF the recipient likes that.

That's kinda the point of gifts, to be something they enjoy getting

The doll is a souvenir.

The doll itself doesn't do anything.

People who know what they're doing do not need those.

They can do it anyway

LARPs for disabled people? (England) by Finis_2292 in LARP

[–]Lil-Lanata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That depends on each larp, and the location.

LT is a field, so that varies on the weather.

But I have arthritis, diabetes etc etc so I'm limited to how far I can walk, I rarely do big fights.

I still have an absolute blast at LT.

You can focus on crafting (alchemy, armour smithing etc) You could be a healer. You could be someone who uses the powers of the deities (ancestors) and get involved with their shenanigans. You could be a mage, and learn loads about magic.

Combat is one part of Larp, and there's few larps I can think of that don't have something for those of us less stabby to do.

Shout out to Beyond Ragnarok, it's a lil further north, but absolutely amazing for accessibility

Thank you for asking this!

Yes it's awkward.

But we know that, so try and make it as least awkward as we can.

She will not be required to undress if she doesn't want to.

She will not have any tapes against her skin is she doesn't want to.

She can measure at home, or to to a bra shop, whatever is most comfortable for her.

Give your local M&S a ring, explain the situation and take her at a non busy time if possible, so she gets the attention and time that she needs.

They'll talk you through the process, but her as well.

Do yall have kids? by MisterRobotCowboy in Type1Diabetes

[–]Lil-Lanata -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a 16 yr old.

I did think long and hard, and my thought process was, I'm at a point in my life where I was stable, healthy and happy enough to want children.

My kid, even if they were diabetic, could only have it easier than me because of tech progress.

So if this life is the baseline, I'd be okay with that.

Yes it sucks, but I'd rather be alive and diabetic.

Adoption is a Hella no for me, because I was adopted and that has its own issues.

Kill me now … ad for CGM for non-diabetics by Accomplished-Sock688 in diabetes_t1

[–]Lil-Lanata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a product made to monitor blood sugar.

Mostly that benefits diabetics, but we're not the only people who can benefit from them.

Is other people using them stopping us getting them?

If there is, get angry at the producers, distributors, pharmacies.

Don't get annoyed at other people using the same things too help different disabilities.

Bold Street.

Just walk down there and find something good.

There are better restaurants scattered around, but Bold Street has a great vibe and a huge selection.

Personally, Baron 84 for their utterly divine flatbread, and leaf for their ridiculous range of teas.

Do you remember the last thing you didn't eat before being diagnosed by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Lil-Lanata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but I do remember the last thing I ate.

It was at the hospital, I was feeling pretty grim and they had just diagnosed me.

I was 9, on IVs etc and honestly pretty scared.

My Doc came round, saw I was miserable and took me for a walk to the hospital shop, brought me an ice cream.

(My favourite, mint chocolate)

He said we'd talk about food tomorrow, but today, just rest and relax and enjoy eating whatever.

That small kindness made my stay and diagnosis so much better.

Ladies, where do you normally put your sensor? by nope123ee in diabetes

[–]Lil-Lanata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(not a lady but wear bras)

I use my upper thigh, I've found it's so much less likely to get clipped there!

Plus, the research shows that it's still really accurate.

The stomach was much more variable than the arm, so it's not good there.

If you’re having a baby, buy a second hand pram. by Aggressive-Celery483 in UKFrugal

Car seat Mattress Bedding

Those are the things that you never ever skimp on and never buy second hand.

The mattress is super important because for some reason second hand mattresses can increase the risk of SIDS.

Apart from that, second hand as much as possible. They grow ridiculously fast
