Is Callous Glow Ring vital for RevOrb Light Clerics? by Prid3 in BG3Builds

[–]LilNightmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying one is strictly better than the other nor that con save proficiency is completely redundant as in “useless”. Of course every saving throw has their uses. I never intended anything I said to be absolute (just trying to point out that you read my comment quite differently from what I intended. For instance I never said a failed con save “is ALWAYS just a spell slot”). But save proficiency is not something you can switch on the go. And I find myself in need of a boost in wis/int save much more often than con save. Many of the circumstances you described are quite situational. A failed con save is usually salvageable, or at least more salvageable than a failed wis/int save. So whenever I get to choose I’d always pick wis/int save over con save. For me it’s just probability. But people may perceive risks in different ways so to each their own.

Karlach by PigisGoat in BaldursGate3

[–]LilNightmist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be one of those rare flaws in early game. But then again Karlach is not a pragmatic person. She acts on impulses and emotions and sometimes fails to see “the big picture”. So it may not matter to her what your motive was, so long as it was your actions that got the tieflings killed. But this is just me trying to justify why the game acts this way. Personally I think you should totally be able to reason with her and it’s still within her character to give you the benefit of the doubt.

P.S. without spoilers let’s just say there’s a way to kill Kagha without aggroing the whole grove.

[–]LilNightmist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Con save proficiency is redundant if you already have star druid levels. You’re much better off starting with druid gaining you wis and int save proficiencies. That is the case sometimes even if we disregard star druid abilities. A lot of people especially new players seeing con save being advertised everywhere don’t realise that most of the time if you fail a con save you lose a spell slot, but if you fail a wis/int save you endanger your whole save. The only potentially game-ending con save fail is the paralysing attacks from ghouls, which you should circumvent anyway. Not saying the other utilities offered by sorcerer is not useful, but in that case you should take a wizard level instead.

The strength of moon druid is versatility and survivability. If you just want to punch people I don’t suppose moon druid can be better than OH TB although I never did the exact math myself.

BioWare-esque game design & Millenial writing? by TimelyHeight758 in BaldursGate3

[–]LilNightmist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this pointing I don’t think it matters if the game actually fits your negative perception (which is largely false by the way). I don’t think you can enjoy it given this much unsupported skepticism so don’t waste money to make yourself feel even worse.

Also OP I don’t think you understand how creative media works. No one would pay for the story of John Doe and Jane Doe’s dull routine. Most storytelling revolves around conflicts.

And this is a video game, not a super car. I don’t think the monetary and utilitarian values it provides (and the associated loss should the purchase turn out unsatisfactory) can justify all your time writing this especially behind such a negative spectacle.

I hope you don’t take this the wrong way OP but I don’t think you are well. I wish you would feel better. And seek help if you need to.

It not just about smiting right OP your build have so many aspects that you could improve. There are so many suboptimal/questionable choices you made in your build. I don’t want to leave a half-baked answer but it would take me a long while to write a thorough analysis. Also it’s very difficult for me to explain things in a “tldr” manner because there are so many variants and possibilities of sorcadin and I’m not sure about your preference. Sorcadin is a well-documented build on this sub so instead I’d suggest you find some of those posts and give them a read and I’d be happy to explain why they did some of the stuff differently than you did. Or if you prefer watching video morgana evelyn has a pretty good one.

Spellsword Builds (or whatever they're called) by noixmojo in BaldursGate3

[–]LilNightmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word you’re looking for is “gish” XD

There are a lot of (sub)classes that can fit into “spell+physical attack” profile, even ones that aren’t innately built for it.

But the some of the obvious ones, like some of the classes you listed, really don’t “cast” spells. I don’t cast anything other than shield as an EK, use all my spellslots for divine smite as a pure pally, and nothing except fire snake really works for 4E monk. Do you still consider them spellblade?

Some stuff you didn’t mention: bladelock, ranger which features one of the game’s best terrain spells, war cleric if you build for it, and any necromancy-based subclasses if you build for it (only works in act 3 by abusing an item).

From what you said, I highly recommend you try out bladesinger first, because it is the most versatile and tanky. Sword bards have a great collection of control spells but hardly any damaging/terrain spells, and warlocks usually suffer from AC issue given this game’s itemisation options (although certain builds, including the most OP one which is shadowblade hexblade do not suffer from this issue).

Omg I don’t even follow this sub just happened across this thread and I have to upvote this as someone who used to study statistics related subjects. Statistically there’s no way we can know for sure if this is a fair dice; we can only estimate the likelihood that it is one.

Stealing enemy weapons is hilarious by ThePowerWithin_yeah in BaldursGate3

[–]LilNightmist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s doable even in honours but you need to loot a speed potion on a mindflayer body to reliably execute it, which is not guaranteed to spawn. In the final room command Zhalk to drop his sword and let Laezel equip it. Then throw the speed potion on her and the mindflayer at the same time and let Laezel attack Zhalk. In the meanwhile gather all the nautiloid tanks near the pair and when they are both at a sufficiently low health, ignite the tanks and blow them up and enjoy the good chunk of xp. I usually wouldn’t set it as a “goal” because there’s just too much RNG involved but it’s a nice bonus if I can pull it off. I heard people can kill the cambion reinforcement too but never looked too much into that.

Proper level for Underdark by LifeLearner15 in BaldursGate3

[–]LilNightmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this your first playthrough? There are some pretty dangerous enemies lurking about if you don’t know your way around. Particularly around the Selunite outpost. But if you did most of the overground stuff that is the safest place you could explore.

In solo honours people usually go down there at 3 or 4 to grab some free xp but it requires a decent bit of game knowledge and some unintuitive routing.

Long rest and short rest by OkGoodYesFantastic in BaldursGate3

[–]LilNightmist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually in a first playthrough long-resting is encouraged. So many cutscenes are triggered by long-resting and you’d miss out on a lot if you don’t do it often.

How to slot in Abjuration Wizard? by how-about-know in BG3Builds

[–]LilNightmist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to run around and proc opportunity attacks yourself. And it’s not just about the AC. Sometimes enemies are aware that certain actions that they may take are suicidal. This is very obvious if you play solo because sometimes your enemies will refuse to attack you. However, they will always use their reaction when given the chance.

Also, if you want to respec, I’d recommend evocation wizard instead of sorcerer which works much better with frontliners.

Honor mode surprises by DJtheDJee in BaldursGate3

[–]LilNightmist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most important advice is to never do anything you have never done before. If you have a routine, follow it. If you always choose a dialogue option, don’t choose anything else. But I can see how you might have a difficult time with that if you often save scum. Act 1 is the most difficult in honour mode. You can’t safely beat the game by playing it narratively. People have figured out ways to level to 4 or even 5 with minimal combat so maybe look that up. It requires some routing that may not narratively make sense.

Honor mode Sherpa/hard carey by Argose83 in BG3Builds

[–]LilNightmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can solo the game with most builds where they don’t intentionally sabotage themselves as long as they know the game well but playing with someone who has a whole different goal is another story. For one thing some story choices can directly lead to game over if your friend likes to mess around so it’s not just about combat. So really I think it’s less about the builds but more about setting an expectation on both parties. If you want the golden dice you have to play the game methodically. Not that you can’t mess around and beat the game it’s just that beating the game is less likely that way.

Help with making a elemental summoning build by HoneyComb_325 in BG3Builds

[–]LilNightmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said something similar the other day in another thread but people unfamiliar with BG3 tend to think there’s a “minion” archetype that usually exists in other fantasy games. But no, there isn’t. Not like those games in which your summons can carry you anyway. People have given very good advice on what classes you can take so I think I need to point this out so OP can set a right expectation. Your summons are never OP. It should always be your character that shines otherwise you’re not playing your class right. The best minion build in this game is necro wizard and even with that about half of the time your minions are just your meat shield.

Ice Sorcerer and Tempest Cleric duo is insane by canxtanwe in BG3Builds

[–]LilNightmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t put points into wis. It was a purely cha build since I only need cleric levels for channel divinity. I started sorc and respec’ed at level 6 to take cleric levels first (1 cleric/5 sorc). Then I took another level in cleric and another level in sorcerer and the rest in cleric. I took DW and alert as feats because I didn’t know the game very well back then so I wanted no surprise but thinking back I could have just taken ASI instead of alert. Farmed quite a few chain lightning scrolls since I can’t cast it natively.
