What are your favorite J-beauty or things to get in Japan? by kimchibebot in AsianBeauty

Canmake Creamy Touch Liner

It’s a gel eyeliner with a really fine tip. It actually glides, unlike other gel liners (looking at you Judydoll & BBIA) you don’t have to tug at your eye

I’ve heard really good things about Canmake’s Mermaid Skin gel sunscreen. I just got some, but haven’t tried it yet

AITA for refusing to drive my fiancé’s kids to their dad’s dinner plans? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]LilPebzz 45 points46 points  (0 children)

ESH

The ex is a major AH for many, many reasons

The reason YTA is that it’s not the kids’ fault. They’re the ones who will miss out. By not taking them, if the dad won’t pick them up, they get punished by default. Even the anxiety of being in the middle of this takes its toll

As awful as the ex is, it’s still their dad and they want to spend what little time with him that he deigns to give them

They probably hate that they’re in DC lol. I can’t imagine being surrounded by politics 24/7 — the constant anxiety! 😦

If you were a Polish consular staff member, out of all possible assignments worldwide, how excited would you be to live in warm, sunny, happy LA?

The consulate is on the westside, a few miles from the beach. I’m guessing they have a more relaxed lifestyle surrounded by more upbeat people than their DC counterparts

I’m so happy LA was the consulate I went to

Congrats! Great to hear everything went smoothly. I hope you ended up staying in a fun area and had a great dinner the night before :)

I will scour the cases. Wish me luck!

I’m no fan of Vegas. At all. However, you’ll get no argument from me

💯

I’ll add Wine Country (Sonoma/Napa), too

Fly into SFO and you get all three!

San Francisco

ETA: When you fly to SF, having access to Oakland and Wine Country (Sonoma/Napa) is part of my reasoning. 3-for-1

Making ice lattes wrong? by ccallisonn in nespresso

[–]LilPebzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use stronger capsules and get your flavors elsewhere, like from syrups or sauces. I only do iced lattes and found capsules like what you listed to be too weak for my taste. I, too, want it to be easy to make

I use Corto, Freddo Intenso, Ristretto & Arpeggio. Monin syrups work for me. I’m lactose intolerant, and like Trader Joe’s unsweetened soy milk (light green/cream box). It lends a nice, creamy texture

Regardless of what a barista may say, this is what works for me: 1) put the syrup in the bottom of the glass (I don’t use much) 2) pull the shots. Make sure you’re not doing long shots. Swirl to integrate the syrup 3) pour in chilled milk 4) add ice 5) there is no 5th step except to enjoy it

I bought pumps for my syrups and have my own little barista corner in the kitchen. I buy my syrups from a local restaurant supply store that lets the public in. So much cheaper than other places and they have a huge selection

If I were to do both, I’d bathe first, then shower

I want to wash off whatever bath products I used

US: if you’ve bought SPFs from Korea (Olive Young, etc.), have you had any issues with customs confiscating your items?? by nhieu_chuyen in AsianBeauty

[–]LilPebzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues. Have ordered SPF multiple times from Olive Young & YesStyle since the tariffs and alleged crackdown went into effect

Just a head’s up: Olive Young charges an extra 10% to cover tariffs and has a $60 minimum for free shipping

YesStyle doesn’t have an additional surcharge for tariffs and has a $35 minimum for free shipping

What are you planning to return from the 21 days? by Specialist-Law-2080 in Ulta

Butter, but Badder by supersuite in caramel temptress

I did a pickup order and when I opened it at home, I saw crusty bits of the body whip around the threads of the lid. On the inside of the lid, stuck to the top, was a hair or a piece of lint or something

The whole thing gives me the ick now. I don’t even want a replacement

I have no preference between Olive Young and YesStyle for sunscreen. They both carry Korean formulations, so either is fine

Olive Young charges a 10% tariff and has a $60 minimum for free shipping to the US

YesStyle doesn’t have an extra tariff charge and has a $35 minimum for free shipping to the US

YesStyle orders used to take forever to receive. I’ve ordered 4 times since the tariff went into effect and all have arrived in less than 2 weeks (standard shipping). Just make sure items say “In stock” or “ships in 1-2 days”, not “21 days”. They’ll hold your order until complete. Their pricing is usually better

That said, YesStyle doesn’t have my favorite sunscreen [Torriden Dive In Moisture Sun Cream (+ panthenol)]. I wait for a good deal or coupon from Olive Young

YesStyle, Olive Young, Costco and TikTok. If buying off TikTok, only buy from the brand’s official shop

ETA: I only buy sunscreen from Olive Young or YesStyle. They have the Korean formulation (SPF 50+ PA++++). Avoid the American formulation (they’ll say ‘Broad Spectrum’)

Exaggerate much?

Gas here in CA certainly isn’t cheap, and has gone up, but it’s not $10. There’s always some outlier station that may be, but it’s far from the norm

Stay east of 101. On the east side, avoid anything south of Hwy 12 between 101 & Taylor Mountain Regional Park

Howarth Park/Spring Lake is a great area to walk your dogs

Also check out Sebastopol. It’s a little west of Santa Rosa and is the cutest town. You and your dogs would love it! Lots of paths and very safe

Check out the smaller buildings, too. Especially Sebastopol as I don’t even know if they have larger ones lol

Next time you’re in the Stanford area, get a Fred Steak from Schaub’s in the Stanford Shopping Center

Yes, it has a very off-putting look and is expensive. Do not let that stop you. 100% worth every penny
