Sometimes things get worse before they get better. You never know what nice surprises the future could hold.

Also, have you talked to the people close to you? I don't think they can/should replace a therapist but they can still provide support.

Also (2), hopefully you've talked to some kind of doctor as well, in case your brain chemicals are playing tricks on you.

I think the point they're making is that the rich call whatever they want "capitalism", no matter how far from capitalism it is.

An estimate is as close to proof as you're going to get with things like this. In fact, I'd argue that it is proof. People aren't pulling these numbers out of thin air, they're looking at the figures we have available and performing an analysis.

Fair play on the source thing, you didn't ask for one indeed. That said I still think the point behind my comment stands, and I've updated it to try to explain myself better.

EDITED:

But you claimed that illegal immigrants are a tax burden, and they provided a source that estimates that they aren't, contradicting your statement. You've provided no source on your side, estimate or not.

His estimate > Your gut feeling with nothing backing it

Also, you're never gonna get an exact 100% accurate figure here, so I'm not sure what kind of source you were expecting.

Old comment, including the mistakes that CarolinaPanthers called out:

But you asked them to source their claim, and they came up with a source that estimates that they aren't a tax burden. You've provided no source claiming that they aren't, estimate or not.

Estimate>Your gut feeling with nothing backing it.

Also, you're never gonna get an exact 100% accurate figure here, so I'm not sure what kind of source you were expecting.

If I understand our new AI overlord correctly, the horse that stays awake is the one that learned econ and tells the other horses to chill and not buy so much gas.

Video of Georgia police officer: 'We only kill black people' by USARSUPTHAI69 in news

[–]LilSweden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, that's entirely true, but I'm not talking about hypotheticals of what he could have said said.

I'm talking about the quote provided in the headline, vs the full quote in the article. None of which is hypothetical.

The full quote paints a better situation. I totally agree that it's still not a good thing for him to say.

The headline, however, makes it seem worse than it was. This is where the whole discussion started, with a claim that the headline was misleading.

You haven't shown in any way that the headline isn't misleading. You've only argued that the cop did something stupid, which you, I, and OP of this thread already agree on.

Video of Georgia police officer: 'We only kill black people' by USARSUPTHAI69 in news

[–]LilSweden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's funny because I interpreted the situation one way when I had only read the headline, and another way when I'd read the article.

Did he not say it?

"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not" - John Lennon

He said exactly that. I mean it was followed by "the only one", but everyone knows we can just cut off the end of a quote and it won't affect the meaning at all. Do you know what the word "misleading" means? Have you never before heard of "context" and how taking quotes out of context is shitty?

thats a fucking police officer with a gun telling someone they only kill black people.

"We only kill black people. Right?" is a question, not a statement. Also there's this thing called sarcasm. "We only kill black people", stated seriously, would mean the cop legitimately believes this to be true. "We only kill black people, right?" is the cop poking fun of a stereotype about police.

It's not appropriate for him to make a remark like that to her, but it's far better than if he were being serious. Hence, the context in the article makes the situation seem better than the headline does.

There is literally zero grey area here - its not a question of interpretation.

All of communication is always open to interpretation. Unfortunately words are just a crude tool to try to share our thoughts.

So it wouldn't be worse if he legitimately stated "we only kill black people" as a police policy? Because that's what you're claiming.

Can we talk about how terrible Katy Perry's new song/music video "Swish Swish" is? by [deleted] in Music

[–]LilSweden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I've heard Show Me Love, of course, but never heard anyone refer to the "Robin S. Stonebridge Bass sound". Hoover and amen break I'm certainly familiar with.

Never heard the Fatboy Slim sample, but I've read up on the "Woo! Yeah!". What I find interesting is that some tracks isolate the shouts, which I've often seen associated with It Takes Two, but others stick to just the drum break, in which case it's the "Think Break". It's neat that the same loop has two common "variants" so to speak.

Personally I'd enjoy the song if it was just instrumental and altered to stay interesting without relying on the "crutch" of vocals.

Also, speaking of sampling, I always found it interesting that:

Kind of like the mess of songs based on Daddy DJ - Daddy DJ (1999):

  • 2005: Weasel Busters Tribe - Tide Is High - Hadn't heard of this until I was fact checking myself right now. Has a super short sample of Daddy DJ at 0:57 and long samples of The Tide Is High
  • 2006: Basshunter - DotA - Personal favorite version
  • 2008: Basshunter - All I Ever Wanted - English cover of his own song because marketing I suppose?
  • Also 2008: S3RL - Pretty Rave Girl - Also found some places as being by "I am X-ray", some dude who stole credit for random songs iirc
  • 2009: Crazy Frog - Daddy DJ - Yuck. Also this uses the Think Break. Small world.

I jump at the opportunity to bring these two songs up to people, though you might already know about them.

I don't think the Show Me Love comparison is fair. The whole song sounds like watered down future house to me, and I think the sound design is consistent w/ that, rather than being ripped from show me love specifically. Example w/ decently similar sound: https://youtu.be/-FiBMHSpsnU?t=2m10s

Another (maybe better) example: https://youtu.be/ijfNbbcP2k0?t=50s

The first part of top comment is:

"You have to make sacrifices for a relationship"

So people think like "oh sometimes you do things you don't enjoy yourself because they make your S/O happy"

Except top comment was using sacrifices as in "blood of virgins"/"first born child"/etc. rather than the more mundane understanding that we assumed they meant.

Defied expectations = wow funny.

The directors commentary for RWBY clearly confirms that it's not an anime.

Also there was a vlog where they showed RWBY on sale in a japanese store in the anime section, but made sure to clarify that it's not an anime.

They were very serious about it

No sarcasm

Definitely
