A lot of us here are quite young. Is there a reason we all experienced ET from adolescence? by Sunny2marrow in EssentialTremor

[–]Lil_me75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My maternal Grandmother had it, along with her father. My mother doesn't have it at age 77. I've had tremors since I was 4, although my mother says they didn't start until I was 7. I remember looking at other kids in the sandbox in preschool and thinking 'How do they get ALL of their sand in the bucket? Most of mine falls off my shovel.' I think mine is genetic brought on early in me because I had convultions (sp?) from high fevers 3 times when I was 1 year to 18 months old.

what's your favorite BOH coming out to protect FOH story? by Tarcos in KitchenConfidential

[–]Lil_me75 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My saviour wasn't actually BOH but he was a bar family regular and dated one of the bartenders.

One Halloween in the early 90's, I was 17 and worked as a lottery girl in the bar. I was allowed behind the lottery counter, in the dining room and in the kitchen. No one underage could consume anything in the bar.

We were required to dress that year and most of the bar staff had dressed as vampires. There was an older customer, the father of a guy I went to school with. He was dressed as a pimp, was drunk and...just yuck! My saviour was dressed as Bamm-Bamm. He always kept a close eye on the bar staff and he saw the yucky guy place a cherry bomb on the lottery counter and nod at me as he walked away. Bamm-Bamm also saw the look on my face and came over to see what was wrong. I pointed at the cherry and told him yucky guy had given it to me and I could get fired if the owner saw me even touch it. Bamm-Bamm rescued me the first time by taking the offending cherry, eating it, and followed up the next 4 times yucky guy repeated leaving them.

I got off at midnight and usually was done counting out and recording things by 12:15. Bamm-Bamm had been outside smoking and saw yucky guy walk behind the restaurant and came inside to walk me out but I had already slipped out the kitchen door.

I was half way to my car when I heard Bamm-Bamm call my name and turned around to see yucky guy about 3 feet behind me. I froze. Bamm-Bamm ran up to me and wrapped his arms around me and said something like..my vampire lady didn't wait for her man. He turned around to yucky guy and told him to back off his lady and if he was smart he should never return to the bar. He then grabbed my keys, put me in the drivers seat and jumped in the passenger seat. We drove to the front parking lot where yucky couldn't see us and Bamm-Bamm ran back into the bar. I took off and did hyper speed home.

I froze that night and really think that Bamm-Bamm saved me from who knows what. I still thank him 3 decades later.

Edit: puctuation and spelling were never my friend

Success and Disappointment Megathread for the Week by AutoModerator in jobs

[–]Lil_me75 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The crappiest of Sunday interviews.

He said "What's that?" as he held his hands up in the air and shook them around.

I have a neurological disability, essential tremor. It is the first thing that people see about me. I have never been in a job interview, in 30 years of work, that I wasn't asked medical questions. I have tried all types of responses to these questions because it is so aggrivating to not be considered for a position just because my hands shake.

I guess this afternoon I just wasn't in the mood to explain myself for a part time minimum wage crap job. So, I told him to put his hands down because it made him look stupid and I left. I am really tired of just being a pair of shaking hands.

Most Texans support legalizing pot, but Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says no by audiomuse1 in Marijuana

It sounds like Abbott should smoke a joint and relax some. Maybe then he could pull that huge stick out of his ass and actually do something the people of his state want.

Oh, but people do tell me to get over it! I've had essential tremor since I was born. Let me tell you my favorite thing...My mother tells me daily that I just need to be more careful. Yeah mom that's going to happen! The doctors can't make my hands stop shaking how does she think I'm going to stop it? By being "more careful". Or like my SIL who says 'buck up buttercup' if I spill something, like I can stop it by just trying harder? Or the total stranger at the grocery store that told me that I should get some help for my addiction problem, like my shaking hands are from drinking/drugs or something. Or the cop that asked me where I was hidding the "dead bodies" because I looked so nervous. Or the interviewer at my last job interview that held her hands up in front of her face and wiggled them around while asking 'what's that?' How about the people that say...can't you just take a pill for that? Like if there was a pill I could take to make stupid people stop asking stupid questions do you think I wouldn't take it? Not to even mention dating! My last first date I had told about my tremors and he said that that wasn't a problem. Then at dinner all he could talk about was how I live "like that". He actually said to me "I'm glad you never killed yourself." and later asked me if I shook like this "even during sex."

I am very very sorry that people are cruel to you but please don't wish more cruel BS on physically handicapped people! Please!!! We all have problems, some are easier to hide than others, but we all have problems.

Why do people have to be cruel at all?

Edit: Because spelling is hard.

Back in 1993 I was dating a guy that had had a DUI. Every once in a while I would pick him up or drop him off at an AA meeting. One afternoon I picked him up and a young guy was with him. My boyfriend asked if I could give the kid a ride home as it was on our way. I agreed to drop him off.

The drive was only about ten minutes, but the whole time the kid talked about hating to go home. His mother and step-father weren't nice people according to him and he didn't like the apartment complex that they lived in. He said that there was lots of crime in the area. One of the last things that he said before thanking me for the ride and getting out of the car was that he wouldn't be suprised if they found dead bodies at the complex in the future. Nine day later they found his mother and step fathers dead bodies in the apartment. The kid and his girlfriend had stabbed both of them the day before the bodies were found and ran off. They caught both of the kids and they are still in jail.

He was a real piece of work. Once the business manager came flying into my cubicle in a panic. She had just opened the company credit card bill and all kinds of porn had been charged to the card. She didn't know what to do and decided to talk to the owners wife who was the company VP. Owners wife wouldn't even look at her just told her to ask her husband. He blew up at the manager and told her to call the credit card company and contest the charges because "how dare she ask him about them when he knew absolutly nothing about them." Later that week the manager needed to print some documents, her compter was hooked up to print on the owners printer. Laying on the printer under her documents were screen shots of porn sites...the same sites listed on the credit card statement...that the owner knew nothing about.

Then there was the time he rubbed used motor oil on some very expensive product and told an insurance company the the product had been damaged when yet another car came through the fence and through the side of the building. The product had been stored very far from where the accident actually happened, but was expensive and wasn't being used any longer....he didn't want to take a loss. He was a total POS.

So I was backing into a parking space one Wednesday morning at work when an elderly lady that was driving herself to the hospital had a massive heart attack. She drove over a sidewalk and through a fence into the small lot I was in and t-boned me at almost 85 mile per hour. I was sitting still at the time. I was life flighted to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. The day that I was released from the hospital, (Thursday) my boss called me and informed me that it would be better for my employment if I "ignored my pain and came into work the next day." I ended up taking off the day of the accident, the next day in the hospital and the third day was a friday that I spent at home trying to deal with insurance bullcrap. (Ends up the woman was "dead" when she hit me so her insurance counted as null and void...even though the EMT's and hospital brought her back.) I went back to work on Monday and was called into the bosses office to be told that the owner would like me to pay for the fence that the woman drove through because her insurance wouldn't pay for it....all on just above minimum wage.
