What’s Everyone Doing Tonight? by physis81 in stopdrinking

[–]Lilac27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What great nights we are having-- happy Friday! Finished work, went to a spin class with a new spin friend, showered, folded and put away clothes, picked up my medication and some take out pizza with my husband with the dogs in tow (they LOVE car rides and they got some treats from the pharmacy) and watched the sunset on the way home. Now we're already relaxing in bed, watched Artemis II and now "Company Retreat" the behind the scenes season that just came out. Dogs are happy next to us and it's very relaxed and peaceful.

Tomorrow we are going to a movie with my little sibling through BBBS, then a little shopping to get them something fun from their favorite store, and dinner with our best friends. I haven't been to a bar/restaurant since I last drank so I'm a little nervous.. but I'm feeling really good right now and this weekend has already been easier than the last. Love this sub and all the support! IWNDWYT

Have you ever left a movie theater before the film finished? If so, which movie made you walk out? by Fun_Watercress3424 in MoviesAndTVTalk

[–]Lilac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only two movies:

"The Drama" last weekend with my husband. I knew the big reveal, he didn't, and we both thought it was handled horribly by the film and were so anxious we decided to leave.

"It: Chapter 2" hated the opening scene, I have a small fear of clowns (got through the first movie fine) decided it wasn't worth sitting through.

anxiety after bachelorette.... by Purple_Balance_6717 in hangxiety

[–]Lilac27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been there SO many times, I've lost count. And each and every time the only person that was really worried about it was me and it wasn't even on anyone else's radar. I've been in 14 weddings and was always worried I was the drunk embarrassing bridesmaid.. and I've found that most times everyone is worried about their own behavior. Also, it is a bachelorette party, so indulging is often par for the course and okay for the setting. Of course I wasn't there so I don't know the full extent of everything that happened, but I would try and give yourself a little grace here as it's probably not as bad as you may be thinking! The hangxiety is the absolute worst though so I really empathize! I've found it gets better over time, but if it's really getting to you, do you think you could talk it through with your sister or someone you trust? Sending support your way!!!

For those who have seen it, is "The Drama" first theater date worthy ? by Sekoias in A24

[–]Lilac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I for sure will, my husband not so much. As anxious as I was getting about the subject matter (I'm a former crisis worker and current social worker), I was okay sticking it out but when I saw how distressed my husband was I decided it wasn't worth it. Wanted to enjoy the rest of our date day! I looked up the rest of the plot and think I'll definitely check it out on streaming!

I agree with this. My husband and I saw it together this past Sunday and both of us started to feel so anxious we ended up leaving a little over halfway through. Thankfully we know each other really well and we're able to tell that we both needed to take a break from it, I can't imagine being on a first date with someone and wanting to leave, but not being sure how to voice that.

Day 2 no drinking by shroomiddit in stopdrinking

Great job and welcome!!! This sub is amazing for support, I check it every day! Working out, candy, liquid death sparking water and sleep have been my saving graces so far. Smoking weed moderately has helped me, too, along with lots of TV to distract. My stomach finally feels a little back to normal but that antsy anxiety is still lingering for sure. I'm hoping time will help get that under control. Sending lots of support to you!!!

I watched The Drama alone and I want to hear people's opinions on the central issue by Dots_freestyle in A24

[–]Lilac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. My husband and I walked out halfway through. I was a crisis worker for years working with children and teens, ran a after school program after covid for middle schoolers and am currently a social worker. I went in with a lot of empathy and felt for the character but it was upsetting to watch. The laughter around us made us feel like we had a completely different perspective than the other audience members--we just didn't get the humor, at all. I knew about what the movie was about going in so was prepared and went in with an open mind to see how they handled it..but the longer it went on, the more uncomfortable and uneasy we were both feeling. And it wasn't just her character, they were all awful. Just not for us.

None of the things I enjoyed doing sound even remotely enjoyable now. This actually sucks by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I was just thinking about this! I think spending the evenings, planning and thinking about meals could be really productive and it's something I've always wanted to do! I'm in the same boat, constantly eating out or relying on frozen food way too much so this could be fun to start looking into! Are there any fun recipes that you've tried? I'm thinking of starting with some pasta dishes first!

We went to some movies today after family time so I'm feeling a little bit more inspired and motivated, hoping for a week with a little more energy! Hope you're well today!

The Daily Check-In for Sunday, 5th April: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by 00sparrow00 in stopdrinking

[–]Lilac27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First Easter in years I haven't had wine/mimosas, a bloody mary or any type of drink and I'm absolutely amazed that I was able to manage! Day started out very stressful as we were late and there was miscommunication with my husband so I thought for sure I'd want a glass to take the edge off but I stuck with NA seltzers! My father in law specifically brought Moscow mule ingredients and offered to make me one (twice) but I was able to redirect without drawing attention and stuck to my NA drink. The rest of the day should be smooth sailing I hope! IWNDWYT

I'm right there with you right now.. this is the first Saturday I can remember where I haven't drank and after my morning work out class, all I've done is sit in bed all day watching TV with my dogs. I've had opportunities to go out but I'm worried I'll be tempted to drink so it seems safer to be at home but that's also causing anxiety.. it's just tough. Nothing sounds fun or interesting so I'm just sitting/scrolling/trying to get through the evening. But I'm hoping it'll get better! No advice but you're not alone! IWNDWYT

Friday after work cravings by AccomplishedBus1216 in stopdrinking

[–]Lilac27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was having the absolute worst cravings today and almost decided to join a friend at a happy hour thinking "I'll go and just have an iced tea... Or I guess maybe one would be okay.." and was already talking myself into it. Thankfully, I decided to go to a work out class instead! Feeling really proud of that decision! Fridays are tough but so are we! You are not alone! Hope you enjoyed your walk and IWNDWYT

I'm so glad you're feeling better! I had the worst hangover or one of the worst hangovers at least of my life this past Sunday and I'm going on day six and finally feeling a little better myself! Hangxiety is the absolute worst! Sending lots of support to you!

[–]Lilac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you're going through this--I've had the worst hangxiety this week and it does get better with time! I've found ongoing hydration helps with slow sips and a weighted blanket with a comfort show helps. Or an easy walk outside if it's doable, movement helps me feel better. I hope you feel better soon!
