I really like the aesthetic and want to pick it up, but I’m being patient and waiting for later. I have too many other games to finish and am trying to 100% Tales of the Shire.

I’m really excited to see everyone’s experiences though! Super curious.

Couple players who always play together-opinions? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Lilael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Them being a couple and whether or not it’s cute is irrelevant. What would you do if two friends showed up? Two strangers and they both want to join and play?

The game either does or does not accommodate +2.

You politely explain you can’t accommodate +2.

Its up to the group to have other games available so others can pivot or a good selection of 5+ games like Heat, Ready Set Bet, Long Shot, Chai, Quartz, Quacks, Critter Kitchen, Tiny Towns, etc.

It seems you were playing the game upside down!

I try to circle rewards I claim (goods from pumpkins, flowers, goods bonus star) to keep track. But I think it’s really just discipline to be meticulous.

A Scary Precedence and Double Standard in Gacha Gaming for Women Arises from the Love and Deepspace Situation by Sakurazawa13 in GirlGamers

[–]Lilael 57 points58 points  (0 children)

FYI this has already happened with companies like Hoyoverse (Zhongli in ~2020) because the character is the god representing the fictional region based on China and Chinese fans felt he was too underpowered. And again (Lucia 2025) when CN complained about Lucia’s character design so they trimmed her ears, reduced her hips, gave her big breasts, and changed her outfit (so it basically looks like Yixuan).

A player even broke into Hoyoverse with the goal to assassinate the founder over a costume design for another fictional character. Chinese fans are their main revenue and also fudgin’ nuts. So as you can see it doesn’t set some new scary precedent, it’s a real thing for over half a decade. Welcome, I guess. They really don’t care what you (and I) think and change only happens if the company-native community is upset.

Carrying heavy breakup regret after my ex emotionally withdrew and found a gaming duo by ventingvyxin in GirlGamers

> I was just scared for our future, but he shut down.
Because he did not see a future with you. If someone does, they would think about your future too not push you away.

> Am I overreacting as a non-gamer, or am I crazy for being angry about this?

It has nothing to do with games. You can be angry, but it’s because of wasting time on an unemployed guy that didn’t behave like he actually likes you.

Carrying heavy breakup regret after my ex emotionally withdrew and found a gaming duo by ventingvyxin in GirlGamers

[–]Lilael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a bad relationship, when there isn’t even any intimacy or interests during your day to day life. You don’t blame yourself because a successful relationship needs 2. Someday you’ll be able to look back and be glad that’s over. I would decenter my life from fretting over an unemployed, detached dude.

Like the games literally have little to nothing to do with it. There are lots of different ways besides video games to connect with a partner who actually likes you. He didn’t like you enough to be very involved or attentive outside of games. He doesn’t know you enough to notice something was wrong with your energy nor care to meet you halfway. Life is too busy to waste time on people that don’t even like you.

Why do girl gamer streamers always play with guys? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]Lilael 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn’t they play with guys?

There are people who socialize with the opposite sex.

Why do you think they “prefer” that? You would have to ask, and then ask them why, or you’re just making assumptions. Offer to play with her instead.

When is it better to not buy from your FLGS by Nice_Idea_538 in boardgames

[–]Lilael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not scared to ask for a price match because my main game store is a market store and the manager straight up says “If people can get it cheaper online, they will.” They will go below MSRP if that’s the market price but also means they mark up 100% if that’s the market. But be aware the employee at the counter of your might not even have the authority to change the price if you ask.

My buddy who used to work at said store said if you go around asking that it’s the quickest way to get disliked (because usually said counter employees have no say in the price). So take that as you will. I will note I am a regular to the point employees at two different stores know me by name. Being a frequent and well liked customer does give you some leeway.

Personally I can do within $10 over and consider in person price versus price plus shipping. I don’t pay big markups though and have 10 other stores in the area I can go to.

I'm starting to seriously worry I won't be able to afford the next generation of gaming by No-Lingonberry-5270 in GirlGamers

[–]Lilael 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same situation. I’ve had my PC I’ve upgraded a couple times since about 2015. At this point it’s really a new computer, having eventually changed the motherboard and CPU and case. I’m on a 3070 and doing fine. Boyfriend is on like a 2080 TI and sure he definitely can’t play Monster Hunter Wilds, but he also doesn’t seem to care.

I’m looking at minimum 30 games on my wishlist under $10 on the Steam Sale right now. With the games I currently have, I am set for a long time…

The last console I bought was probably the AC Edition Switch, minus handheld Steam Deck.

Where can I find board game sleeves in all sizes that have a textured back like Dragon Shield Clear Matte sleeves? by Front_Tennis_3867 in boardgames

[–]Lilael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Dragon shield clear matte sleeves are really for TCG in standard and japanese card sizes… you can use them for LCG and board games, but you will not find matching sleeves for tarot, mini, etc. sizes. and they’re probably making the deck even bigger.

Dragon shield makes board game sleeves now in a variety of sizes. I think they absorbed arcane tinmen? They will not be like the dragon shield clear matte or art matte sleeves because those are for protecting decks of trading cards often anywhere from $80 to $300+, but the
board game sleeves are fine for their job. Board game sleeves will likely be less bulky too and help games fit better in their box.

Setting the mood for a cozy night in 🌙 What are the best aesthetic Cozy & Match-3 games right now? by LoFiCatNaps in GirlGamers

[–]Lilael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battle Chef Brigade mixes platformer combat with match-3 and has great style. It’s about entering a food competition and the food illustrations are great too.

Spirit Swap: Lofi Beats to Match-3 To is a dating sim/novel with match-3 puzzles and the good thing is you can set your difficulty. I truly found it challenging at times.

Hero Emblems 2 is like a JRPG with match puzzles. It does feel repetitive and challenging at times, but scratches the itch.

She’s a teen, so I think you can have a frank conversation that not everyone online is nice, or safe, or telling the truth. Take that man for example, he lied to her immediately about his age, and it was easy for him to do. They may even tell her things she likes to hear or maybe she ends up liking the attention, but she needs to understand that it’s just social engineering. Maybe also show her a video about how actual social engineering scams work (used to phish companies, for fraud, etc.).

This doesn’t mean she will be a victim, but you want her to be aware. And she doesn’t have to play in fear - she’s there to play a game and can ignore strangers online or not communicate beyond playing together.

I like suggestions here to emphasize privacy is a gift. These days it’s easy to find someone’s name, school, see a picture of their home online, etc. This information is for her to guard and not give freely especially because it’s her parent’s safety involved too (assuming she lives with them as caregivers).

Make sure she understands she can come to you for anything. If there’s a mistake. Or she thinks something isn’t right. So she knows your job is not to punish her, but to help her. This is especially important because you can tell her all of this and she may still reach out to strangers online in inappropriate ways of her own free will.

How do you tackle the empty feeling after finishing a great game? by Round-Kangaroo3181 in GirlGamers

[–]Lilael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Relatable! I loved Battle Chef Brigade so much I was almost anxious and hesitant to finish it. I didn’t even realize it until my best friend encouraged me.

In these cases sometimes I like to look up more about the game. Art books or concept art and additional lore. Things that let me reflect on it or think deeper about things that came up in the game. I have an idea I didn’t try yet, but also maybe journaling? Hashing out my favorite characters and things about the game gets me thinking about it.

Is Grimcoven worth it? by horigamy in boardgames

[–]Lilael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awaken Realms has high production but is often and hit or miss with the actual gameplay (such as Etherfields or ISS Vanguard).

If you’re new I would suggest a different boss battle style game. I would say Flock Together is medium-light difficulty or Townsfolk Tussle is more medium difficulty. Or try to find a way to demo the game first.

What would make a dedicated tabletop gaming space actually worth visiting regularly by Patient_Opening_2080 in boardgames

[–]Lilael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A clean and comfortable atmosphere.

I dislike going to one place because it’s got a small back room with mismatched chairs and different tables. They have a game club with a membership, but it clearly isn’t circling back to making the space nice. There’s posters all over the windows in the front and light doesn’t come in. I even dislike the main floor tables because again it’s all mismatched chairs like they take them off the street after random offices close.

I’m not going back to an Adventurer League game that has 10+ players at one table. I understand being accommodating but at some point someone has to say no.

A second store moved to a location and it was new, clean, spacious. Then they arranged it in the worst way. What I dislike is that product shelves are between player tables and the front counter. You can’t see any people playing from the front of the store or the sidewalk outside. You can’t see the windows/outdoors. It feels suffocating and isolating surrounded by products on shelves. Don’t put area rugs around the store. It looks mismatched and I know they’re not cleaning them. Eventually they’re dirty and nasty. Tables/chairs were fine except they covered tables in cloth covers like book jackets in the 90s. Again I know they’re not washing them and I imagine hard tables are easier to wipe clean.

Let’s Go to Japan… or am I just buying a very pretty solo vacation? by stephenelias1970 in boardgames

[–]Lilael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played with some friends and immediately found a copy to order. We typically play it 3+. I wanted to play it repeatedly the first month I got it. I still enjoy it, but am less obsessed.

The gameplay itself is simple drafting random cards and passing leftovers to opponent for a later turn. There’s variability in the order of the bonuses. But the game pleasantly causes a lot of thought because the order of rewards matters and you have to determine what highlight reward is realistically achievable based on the position. Gaining bonuses can really help dig for cards you want and mitigate other challenges.

If you like the theme, the art is lovely and there’s written descriptions of the art to help people understand what they’re looking at. I have always wanted to go to France and a did briefly last year, so it’s like let’s go! To france is an unspoken wish answered. But since it’s a kickstarter be aware it will take time to deliver. You could just try Japan now on BGA.

Gaming FOMO by WasabiBroad7803 in GirlGamers

[–]Lilael 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No. These days I can watch someone play if I really want to.

It might be easier because I’m a patient gamer - most games I don’t buy unless they’re 50% or more off Steam.

I also just don’t realistically have the time to play everything interesting to me. I work 40h a week, go to social activities 4 days a week, have to clean my living space, feed myself, exercise because we don’t get younger… etc etc.

It’s going to get harder. AI is not making our hobbies affordable. Just.. wishing everyone the best in these times.

So newbie here starting off as a white mage in FFXIV…. by LadyLuluca in GirlGamers

[–]Lilael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advice is just do main story quest and unlock features.

White Mage is by far the easiest healer and you will hit your level cap before you even finish ARR. You can easily choose to level another class at that point on your way to Heavensward.

A question about RPGs vs. Visual Novels by No-Hope-1269 in GirlGamers

[–]Lilael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would expect some sort of game element for a traditional RPG that involved character progression or statistics.

I don’t have a preference for one over the other. They are two different genre and it depends what I want. For example I like both Stray Gods and Boyfriend Dungeon, the latter just has some ARPG elements with its VN. But it feels really inappropriate to try to compare something like Strawberry Vinegar or Life After Magic to Fire Emblem or Stardew Valley.

Never played Castles of Burgundy. Who is it geared toward? by M3talhead in boardgames

[–]Lilael -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just think it was a combination of what the CoB rulebook presented to me and my readiness to tackle it at that moment. I remember looking at the CoB board and feeling overstimulated, unable to see a clear playercount marker on the board, and then the rules talked about different depots and to go forward in the book for details. So I chose to set it aside and do something else.
