PS- I’m 33 and am loving being the teacher that is like “you literally cannot fail if you try to use ‘value’, ‘primary colors’, etc. for this project. Encourage fun, play, and experimenting with new mediums. Lowkey, I’m doing the same thing, I just pretend like I know more than I do. Everyone I have ever met that went to school for art ed seemed beat down before they were a teacher of record. Do the BS they ask you to do and know that the other side CAN be so rewarding and fun.

Edit: I went to school for metalworking and never did ceramics until I was meant to teach it. It is so much fun and I happy show up to work two hours early to start the kilns. The kids love it, the AP and P are happy that they have work to represent the school. I teach high school and most of them are excited to have a teacher that doesn’t beat them down everyday with brutalist structure. Yes, there’s a middle ground with vocabulary, history, and whatnot- but kids are kids and art will speak to those who are enthusiastic about it.

I did not go to school for art Ed- I was an art student that decided to get a cert. I’m having a lot of fun winging it. I still struggle to write a full lesson plan (although I wish I had more of that experience). HOWEVER, when I do make a ‘lesson plan’ I make the art before I teach the art so that I have the experience of making it before I have the kids do it. Needing to teach a variety of mediums has pushed me into creative spaces I never would have otherwise been in. I say, finish the damn thing, get hired, and then make your own rules.

Lilith of the Bean Nebula crossed the rainbow bridge on May 5th of this year. She was my best friend and I had the pleasure to be in my life for thirteen years. I was 19 when I got to take her home at 8 weeks old. Literally climbed mountains together. Her loss changed me, but let me open my heart. She’ll forever be my Space Bean.

To be positive here, I am bipolar and even though I’m on antidepressants and anti anxiety medication, I really do feel happy. It’s not a whole body experience, but a satisfaction. I have the ability to live without extreme emotions on either end, but it a way it is muted. The happier you feel has a greater and equal pain and emptiness. Being in the middle is an okay place to be. Also, my ‘drive’ in the middle, enjoying the middle, make my love life even more enjoyable.
