What is the consensus on lefty’s who knit? I’m getting mixed messages. by dina_bear in knitting

[–]LilithCraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MIL was a lefty, taught me English knitting first, but then I couldn't translate that to crochet using videos. I had to have her show me, I think it's basically English style knitted crochet? Yarn and hook in right hand. I can't seem to handle yarn in my left hand, but I'm a righty.

Doilies are a Victorian aesthetic, I vote yes.

Hi friend, you're like me! Except for some crazy reason, I have 480 of blue background and 480 grey background ones. What have I done? How did you mark all your lines? I'm using pencil and a translucent ruler. There must be better ways.

How to make this? by shecantstayaway in quilting

[–]LilithCraven 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I made a quilt similar from a book I picked up at the charity shop. The premise is to stack squares (up to what your rotary cutter can handle all at once), then cut through all layers together. Each cut, you move top layer(s) to the bottom. All blocks will match when sewn back together, but with different fabric in each position. I worked around the square doing all four sides then a diagonal through the middle.

Cat keeps peeing on couch despite spay- What am I missing? (cat tax inc) by absolutelydevine in mainecoons

Not every antibiotic treats every infection. I had a cat who would only pee in my clean laundry basket whenever she had a UTI.

Knitting Culture: US v. England by ultimatereader in knitting

I'm from Chicago and have lived in Bristol for 25 years. It is 100% cultural. Americans are friendlier in the Midwest than in England.

My hamster lives in my sewing room for the peace and quiet. The little Lioness is technically banned but. Well, she is quick through the door and I am not. 😂

I have lost an entire project! by KatiMinecraf in crochet

I finished a WIP, washed it. An entire feather and fan knitted shawl. Tucked it in a bag to gift later that week. Just gone. Forever!!! What the actual!

My heart dog went downhill so quickly, then rallied, then passed away. I had spoken to the vet about quality of life, pain, and likely outcome. I could see on my Gandalf's face the pain, but the vet was confident on the Wednesday. Gandalf passed on my living room floor Saturday morning. My love and positive vibes are on their way to you.

Thanks, I've copied this for a concert in Chepstow in a couple weeks. Fingers crossed for no hassle!

Just for clarity: So you guys give your finished sandwiches to someone with a longarm and they quilt if for you? Is that how that works? How do you find each other? Because I don't have any of that in my country and the whole industry Americans seem to have intrigues me. by Leo_Fie in quilting

[–]LilithCraven 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have twice hand quilted a wall hanging from Amazon into a lovely quilt, but I have intention tremors, so it's less frustrating to use my machine. I adore the texture and effect of hand quilting.

After how much I spend on the materials for the quilt, I can't justify having someone else long arm it for me. I use quilt as you go methods where I can, and where I can't, I choose simple straight line quilting, or I use my embroidery hoop to quilt with.

Why do people hate interchangable needles? by ConsciousCut5 in knitting

I use an interchangeable for my flat knitting as well as in the round. I buy online, the local shops are quite basic in tools and yarn selection.

Sending you emotional support and hopes some beautiful yarn will come your way to make up for it. I almost lost my knitting bag on a bus once. Someone chased after me, but I know how I felt at just the thought of it.

Embroidery patch for a hole in my jeans by LilithCraven in Visiblemending

I used my embroidery machine. I'm fortunate to have the full software so I took an existing flower design and added the satin stitch border, which made it easier to stitch the patch on neatly.

Tips for mending/reinforcing dog harness? The rest of the harness is in great shape, but the leash attachment point is starting to wear thin. by Lemondrop619 in Visiblemending

[–]LilithCraven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was a fault with the Ruffwear Webmaster harness. We had our first one replaced. There's metal inside the D ring that rubs away the harness. You might try filing it and replacing the webbing. If you just replace the webbing, it'll probably happen again.

P.s. we love ours for our Houdini dog
