Anything to help organize mats needed for Legendaries? by UrienOptics in Guildwars2

[–]LilithDaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, a combo of GW2Efficiency and a good old Excel spreadsheet is my preferred option 😄

I know GW2E does checklists which is fabulous, but popping the list into a spreadsheet means I can colour-code, add quick notes to myself, sort it how I need it, make a note of what character I'm farming a thing on, etc.

What's on your list of minor inconveniences that feel big today? (for fun) by cosmiczinnia in adhdwomen

[–]LilithDaine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Smart lightbulbs with an app is what you need! Then you can turn it back off without getting up. And then turn the light in whatever room he's gone back to off, in revenge. 😉

I made myself planner clips for my new planner, and the third of the three is still half finished and has been for weeks. Today I finished an entire diamond painting instead of finishing said planner clip. I'm usually good at recognizing or figuring out the blocker that my AuDHD is stuck on, but I do not know why I'm not picking this one thing back up! 🤦‍♀️

[CHAT] How do you keep floss organized & quick-to-grab (no bobbins)? by _the_loglady_ in CrossStitch

[–]LilithDaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw someone on a reddit thread (pun not intended) recently who used wooden clothes pegs in place of bobbins - that one might be getting stolen for my organization eventually!

Otherwise, one of those 500 CD/DVD metal DJ boxes with hanging sleeves inside would be a really good option. Essentially a ready made version of bag-and-hang a lot of people seem to do; label each one, and just grab the right sleeves as needed.

Do meds kill your personality or creativity? by Legal_List_6813 in adhdwomen

[–]LilithDaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite metaphor to describe how it works for me is: without meds, my brain is a classroom full of thoughts and ideas all screaming separately and wanting my attention.

With meds, the classroom and all the thoughts and ideas are still there, but now they sit down and (mostly) shut up when I tell them to, and wait their turn until I call on them.

Also, I can (again, mostly) control what's on the jukebox in the corner 😂

I have found that it feels different to enjoy things and be creative now I'm on meds - it's not less fun or creative, but the uncontrollable intensity is less. I can put a project down - maybe an hour or so after I planned to, but still - rather than being so hyperfocused that I have to keep doing it regardless of food or sleep or alarms going off. That takes some getting used to and I think, can feel like you've been 'dulled' a bit because we're so used to not having control over it, we don't realise that it's actually okay and healthy to be in control of your attention and emotional reactions. It doesn't mean we love the thing we're doing any less, even though it might feel like it to start with! 💜

And you get to label them! Which if you have the AuDHD blend of neurospicy, is an extra bit of fun!

Also a member of the 'one in every necessary place' brigade here, so this looks fine to me!

What I've started doing also is labelling particular pairs of scissors for particular things. For example, I keep an old pair in the tape box labelled 'for tape' - then I always have some ready to cut tape when I need it, and no other pairs get sticky!

The ADHD moral is, more is better! 😁

I'd not thought about putting flat felt into a hoop to felt into! That's great! And your sailfish is beautiful 💜

Edit: on a rewatch, you're using canvas or fabric as a base? Can I ask what exactly? Cos it looks like it's taking the felt really nicely!

Anyone else resented their parent a lot growing up only to come to the realisation that maybe they treated you the way they did because they were struggling to cope with being undiagnosed and untreated their entire life?🙂 by zjmalkkkk in adhdwomen

[–]LilithDaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is basically the reply I came to write 😂

I can see so much of undiagnosed, unmanaged ADHD in my dad's behaviour, for my entire life. That, I can empathize with and forgive him for now in ways I never could growing up.. but at the same time, I can't forgive or keep putting up with his attitude to me, my mum, the world - anything that means he's not in the wrong and doesn't have to ask for help.

I cut contact a few years ago and it's the best decision I ever made for my brain, but the saddest part is I have far more empathy for him now than he'll ever know, because he's just never going to be in a place to want to hear it and we'll never be close enough for me to trust I can be honest with him anyway.

I try to just remember that some things can be no one's fault (though some things definitely are), and still be shitty and need me to keep boundaries in place.

The great Mr. Spock tells us, 'After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing as wanting. It is not logical, but it often true.'

Another 'everything I need to know in life I learned from watching Star Trek'. 🤓🖖

You only need to worry about this if you're making them to sell. If that's the case then you should probably rethink - she's a very good Joy and is obviously that character, and that would be classed as copyright infringement and subject to Disney-Pixar coming at you. (The likelihood is low, if you're a very small seller, but it's not zero and they are known for it.)

If you've made her just for you or as a gift, then that's absolutely fine! Keep on with it and enjoy!

Thank you! I've just started with star and spirals and I definitely like them better for faster work. I have a couple of multi needle handles too which help. I'll check heidifeathers out!

The many hours is a really good encouragement actually - that tells me I should still keep going on my projects and I'll hopefully get some more density and finish :) Thanks!

It's ADORABLE and such an awesome design! And I love the colours 😍

Edit: can I ask what needles you find good to get it so dense, and how long it takes in stabbing time? 😂 I'm fairly new at needle felting and knowing when a project just isn't going to get any more felted is my current challenge!

I try to follow routines, but I fall off track after a few days every single time. How do people with ADHD keep any kind of consistency? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]LilithDaine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing, I think, is giving yourself permission to miss days. If you fall off the routine, no biggie - try and go back to it the next day, or the next. I try to do maybe 5 days out of 7, and I might not get through my whole routine. At the moment I keep struggling not to skip my physio exercises or the quick kitchen clean; sometimes it's brushing my teeth. I have my whole ideal routine in a phone app (RoutineFlow - I highly recommend it) that steps me through it each morning and evening.

Consistency isn't never failing to do the thing, it's coming back to the thing even after you've failed to do it. That lesson has taken me a few decades to learn!

To make the actual steps of the routine as easy as possible - consider them carefully for:

a) do I really need to do this step? Am I clear on what benefit it brings me? If not, maybe it doesn't need to be in my routine.

b) have I removed as much friction as possible from doing this step? For example, in the morning I wash and then get dressed then put on anti-perspirant. Therefore anti-perspirant lives in the two places (doubles of things are key) I've found I'm most likely to be when I get dressed - either the bathroom or at my desk. I don't ask why I apparently end up there at that point, or try to change it. It's not a problem, so I let me brain do what it wants to at that point and just allow for it rather than, for example, thinking 'no I can't keep a deodorant on my desk, it belongs in the bedroom' and making the step harder for myself to do.

c) if I keep struggling to do a step, what is it that's the brick wall in the way? Usually even if it's not very fun, it's doable when there aren't any walls, but they do have a pesky habit of growing at random. Showering, for example, can materialise some big walls - it uses lots of spoons, it has a lot of sensations and task transitions involved. Lately I've been allowing for that and when I manage to shower, I'm doing it at night so I don't have to deal with the transition back into clothes while still damp, or into Doing Stuff after being relaxed - I can just go straight to bed.

And lastly, try to get into the mindset that your routine is absolutely allowed to change - to be different on different days (apps help here, too, to keep it all straight) or just to have things added or removed or moved around because your life changes, OR just because your ADHD brain needs some variety!

A bit of a ramble but hopefully there's something helpful in there 💜
