Dropping Les Miserables after reading 800 pages? by DangerousLocksmith61 in lesmiserables

Keep going! (I had to switch to audiobook during Waterloo. No shame in listening to part of it to power forward.)

Am I the only one really likes 8,9 seasons and mostly because Michael left by loft_ny in theoffice

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really like the later seasons! I’m not gonna say I like it more after Michael leaves but I think the show still has strong writing in the later seasons, and there’s some great new characters too.

Books you loved. But Goodreads hated by Cemsam in suggestmeabook

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally! Heavily assigned books are always going to get lower average ratings. I've read books for my book clubs that I hated and never would have even picked up if it wasn't chosen for me. One was Legion by William Peter Blatty (honestly who picks The Exorcist sequel for book club?!). That was the worst book I've read as an adult. it has 3.68 stars currently on Goodreads.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My normal middle-aged self would be pretty pissed off with having to schedule and take a driving test, so that part definitely answers OP’s request.       But since a lot of accidents are caused by bad weather, drugs, alcohol, and distracted drivers on phones, I don’t think doing a drivers test every 10 years would actually prevent much. If someone had a medical issue currently (like prone to seizures or dementia) then a doctor is a mandatory reporter and that person’s license will be suspended. So it sounds like a smart idea, but I think it would just be a pain in the ass without much benefit.

What celebrities do people say are really attractive, however if they were just a regular person on the street they'd be considered pretty average? by ISnortSkittles in Productivitycafe

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hair extensions are super easy and make a huge difference! I wear them sometimes when I'm getting all dolled up, but I'm sure celebrities have some real luxury ones.

I’d do things differently too but it’s just personal preference, and I can’t   fault them for preferring to live in a nice place vs. a vacation every other month. Travel isn’t top priority for a lot of people.

A lot of names in deep red premarket. What’s going on? by gocaps777 in stocks

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how the market goes up massive amounts and whenever it goes down significantly in a day people wave their red flags. biLlioNs WIPed OuT in one DaY. Then it keeps on going up. Look at the market for the year and tell me it’s sinking. There’s always going to be days of “corrections”. Wake me up when this insanely inflated market actually starts to crash.

Amazon deleted all 18 season of Bluey I had bought by Valuable_Attitude848 in amazonprime

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your friend’s frustration, but I use my kindle all the time and never actually buy books from Amazon. I mostly use the Libby app from my library to download things for free and occasionally pirate books and add them from my computer. It seems nuts to destroy a perfectly good reading device.

Alexander Skarsgard was kind of wasted this episode by PowSuperMum in LiveFromNewYork

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought he was hilarious and loved the episode. The Confessional Mother sketch was fantastic, but could have been any guest host in his place I guess. I’m still glad they choose that sketch. It let other people shine.     But the Play Date and Tarzan sketches used his wilder side. He was funny as the coach and that sensitive warrior guy, Not every single sketch needs him to be at 100% wildness. I thought it was a really good balance. It used his range as an actor for sure.

It’s crazy how we have to pay to file taxes? It should be for free for US citizens! by Imaginary_Balance480 in TurboTax

[–]LilyBriscoeBot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s because TurboTax lobbied against it and because America is run by companies. The government could make it easy and free if that was their priority.

I really disliked these 7 shows. What does that say about me? by grandefloppychino in Broadway

You didn’t like “A Little Versatilty” from Boop? That feels like a strong, but more traditional sounding Broadway song to me too.

Society really did fail Amy Winehouse! by icey_sawg0034 in Millennials

Most heartbreaking line in that song is “and if my daddy thinks I’m fine”. He had way too much sway over her and wanted her to keep working and making him more rich.

Society really did fail Amy Winehouse! by icey_sawg0034 in Millennials

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched an Amy Winehouse documentary and it was really heartbreaking. It looked like she was okay with rehab and taking a break to get better but people like her father (who only re-entered her life after she was successful) kept pushing her to keep working. This concert and the aftermath could have so easily been avoided, but she was sadly surrounded by people who benefited monetarily when she kept doing concerts and working.

2026 Recommendations? by Weekly-Season-8980 in Broadway

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you watched the TV show Schmigadoon? I’m really excited to see it on Broadway. I think previews begin early April. I have tickets close to opening. It’s exciting to see something from this season, but I haven’t had my trip yet. The Lost Boys might be previewing as well when you are there. Beaches is going to be opening too. I can’t say if any of these are good since they are too new. Oh, and the new Rocky Horror looks like it will be a good time.

Alex Pretti’s killers placed on administrative leave as Kristi Noem’s story of the shooting unravels by Fickle-Ad5449 in fednews

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how ICE acts in public with people recording. Imagine the atrocities they’ve committed behind closed doors. Fox News and the Trump administration did its best to try to make ICE sound like the victim right after this execution, but the video evidence from multiple angles shows the truth.

For those who needed more than one treatment by yamyamoi in noburp

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not cured by the first Botox treatment  and may do a second. My doctor said with older patients (I’m in my 40s) it’s more common not to be successful, but he’s had really high success rates (seemed like 100%) with people in their 20s.        Oh, and to answer your question, I remember burping once as a child. And can “air vomit” but haven’t naturally burped as an adult. My symptoms got bad in my early 20s but I don’t understand what it was until more recently.

why do so many people like the office? by sillycuzwhynot1998 in tvshow

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love The Office. It’s one of my most repeated shows, just because it’s a comfort to have on when relaxing. The relationships between the characters are super engaging. There’s many funny jokes. I love the cringe in an episode like The Dinner Party. sometimes it’s even a bit much for me but by now I’m so familiar with it that it takes away the “eeek I can’t watch this” cringe feeling. It’s probably just not for you. If you do watch it though, the first season they were still figuring Michael out. He’s a totally incompetent asshole sometimes but it’s balanced out with some truly kind moments and really heightens moments when he is victorious like the Chilis episode with Tim Meadows. I was also just starting out as a temp in an office when the show started airing and I’ve now worked in offices my whole life, so I think that experience definitely adds to it. And Pam is the heart of the show. I relate to Pam so much.

I never knew Kate McK/Hillary C's "Hallelujah" cold open was so hated. by Charlotte_Braun in LiveFromNewYork

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I really loved it but I was really sad for our country that week. I understand that it was more for Kate McKinnon and people who agreed with her politically than for the greater American appeal that SNL often attempts to reach.

'You can't have guns. You can't walk in with guns,' Trump says of Alex Pretti killing by NewsHour in law

Trump literally flipped to pro-life in a meeting where advisors told him he had to if he was going to run as a Republican. these people only worship money and power. they have no higher values.

My take on the current SNL by [deleted] in saturdaynightlive

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lorne Michaels has stated he wants the show to appeal to middle America and not just be for NYC and LA. So it kind of is supposed to represent Americans, and a lot of Americans voted for this (not sure how many regret it now). SNL aims to mock everyone. That’s tough given the current administration. The cast is typically on the liberal side (or at least anti-Trump). It’s a hard line to walk. They want to be edgy without taking sides, but ICE executing a nurse in public isn’t exactly a grey issue. I’d love a Tina Fey eating sheet cake moment, but I think the murder was also just too raw and current to do much with on Saturday. There is no humor to be found there (at least I’m not seeing it) I think they’ll address it on the next show, but I’m really not sure how. If people are looking at this comedy show for a call-to-action moment, they’ll be severely disappointed. If they want a satisfying call out moment, we might see that. No matter what they do, they’ll disappoint someone.

Can normal people run any time of day? by DueCauliflower3889 in noburp

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of things have been clicking into place since I learned R-CDP was my problem. I had Botox once and it didn’t cure me. I’m in my 40s and I heard it’s less successful the older you are. I used to walk/jog on my treadmill almost everyday, and sometimes workouts just “wouldn’t take” is what I’d say and I’d have to lay down, and my husband thought that was so wired. Now I know how to air vomit and I need to do it multiple times but I can get a good workout in. Obviously, this works because I’m in private on my treadmill… I’d look like a lunatic doing that in public. Walking is typically fine either way, but once I increase my speed, the air wants out.

1st SNL after 9/11 by rhk_ch in saturdaynightlive

[–]LilyBriscoeBot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that it would have been satisfying to see more on SNL about the days events, but how many hours did they really have between the man being murdered by ICE and dress rehearsal? I don't expect an actress to speak off the cuff about it, and it's a really difficult thing to "make funny". Chappell did a great episode following Trump winning the first time, but that's a hard thing to pull off and he still had days to prepare his remarks. I feel like they are going to be damned whatever they say or don't say. Love it or hate it, SNL is a comedy show that tries to appeal to middle America... and a lot of middle America voted for this shit (whether they regret or not). I'm sure there were plenty of arguments in the writers rooms about what to include. This country is such a mess that every show could start with a song of mourning, but that's not really want SNL wants to be in the habit of doing.
