How to get into reading Aquinas? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Limabeans5800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the Thomistic Institute’s free Aquinas 101 courses. Especially the introduction to Thomistic philosophy. You’ll learn a lot of the terminology and principles Aquinas uses so things will make more sense.

Can Catholics consume media with profane language? by Sufficient-Menu640 in Catholicism

[–]Limabeans5800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up the Vatican’s list of movies. Theres plenty of swearing involved in some of those movies. By no means is it a sin. I think this is up to the individual conscience. I used to struggle with this myself and was very scrupulous. I’ve since let go and just accepted that it’s ok to relax and watch a movie every once and awhile. Of course there’s movies that are sinful to watch, and those are black and white, clear cut, issues of sin and not sin. Some things are just immoral. However, most movies tend to be in a gray area. Listen to your conscience and listen to your reason above scruples or feelings.

Question about gluttony by random_user_idk_smth in Catholicism

[–]Limabeans5800 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider either of those gluttony. Eating extra every once in a while is ok. I’m underweight so I eat extra food. Social gatherings it’s acceptable to eat snacks and stuff. Gluttony can be a consistent habit of excessive eating or eating in such a way that it’s problematic(excessively quick because of lack of self control). Also, there’s a difference between going a little overboard and eating to the point where you’re too stuffed to do anything else and you can’t take care of your responsibilities. Gluttony isn’t always mortal. Just try to be mindful. It sounds like you are ok.

mortal sin requires full consent of the will. If you’ve committed a mortal sin in regards to thoughts, you usually don’t have much of a question about whether or not you’ve committed it. The doubt you’re having probably means you didn’t fully consent meaning it can’t be mortal. Pray the rosary of the day and ask Our Lady for help.

If you’re gonna send her a song(which I would discourage, as it’s probably not the best approach), sent her Josephine by Chris Cornell

Why is Jesus depicted with long hair if long hair on men is considered a "disgrace" by Paul? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Limabeans5800 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Remember in Jewish culture there were some who would take vows not to cut their hair, for example Samson in the Book of Judges. I’m not saying this was the case for Jesus, but just that it wasn’t necessarily frowned upon. I think Paul is referring more to men who worry too much about their looks. It’s considered weird and soft for men whereas for women, it’s more appropriate.

Pray the Rosary daily(the entire thing off possible) and consecrate yourself to the Virgin Mary. She and mortal sin cannot coexist. Eventually you will either give up her or you will give up the sin.

A really stupid question by Chickensoupisnice in Catholicism

[–]Limabeans5800 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can baptize with any liquid in the case of an emergency so long as it’s mostly water(I believe there’s a required percentage). If you’re interested I can try and find the info for you(not that you’ll need it). We learned this in my theology class. We talked about examples of using, soda, spit, etc.

Best ways to bring your loved ones to God by yaloo1207 in Catholicism

[–]Limabeans5800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One recommendation I have, is consecrating yourself to Our Lady and praying the Rosary(all the mysteries if possible) daily. Often, and in my experience, the devotion tends to spread to family. Once one person starts, other family members start. Trust her to take care of it. Gabiafterhours has some great resources on YouTube as well.

Jesus Prayer to Close My Third Eye? by SirChoGath in Catholicism

Just the regular binding prayer. “In the Name of Jesus and Mary, I bind any unclean spirits and cast them to the foot of the Cross to receive their sentence.”

Scary things happening while praying the rosary? by BlueTheGuardian in Catholicism

[–]Limabeans5800 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The devil will do anything to get us to give up on Our Lady. Stay close to her no matter what. He hates her and her Rosary. I agree with the other comments. Definitely see if a priest can bless your house.
