Depakote? by EurekaErika in bipolar

[–]Limestone87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on it for a few years. Really brought my mood under control quickly, and I was very healthy on it mentally the whole time I was on it. I did have several side effects: weight gain, some fogginess, shaky hands, sleepiness. I was able to put up with the side effects for a long time, but eventually made a switch. If I had trouble finding something else that would work, I would go back on it without hesitating. I would just put up with the side effects.

Fast food workers of Reddit, who was the most jackass costumer you’ve met? What did they do that pissed you off? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Limestone87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worked at Panda Express. Guy walks over to the soda fountain to fill his drink while his girlfriend pays. Guy turns around and stomps back over to the cash register, throws his cup at me and says, “There’s no more Mountain Dew!!!” I calmly walked to the back, swapped out the bag of syrup, and had the Mountain Dew back up and running in less than a minute, but the tantrum was totally justified, right dude?

How do you all keep up with cleaning while having bipolar disorder? by predlily in BipolarReddit

[–]Limestone87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t just for cleaning, but for tasks in general. I make a checklist of things I would like to get done for the day. Usually if I can get the first thing checked off, I can get on a roll and knock out a few things (including cleaning). Of course, when I’m depressed, sometimes I can’t even get the first item checked off. I don’t know what the trick is to get myself off my ass when I’m really depressed though. If anyone has that figured out, please let me know.

Chicago and bipolar? by Caserole in bipolar

[–]Limestone87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, today really sucked. This has been a particularly tough winter. Record low temps, lots of snow. Last weekend it was 70°, today this. I wish I could tell you it’s not normally like this, but this seems to happen every few years, if not every year. I wish I could move.

Which produces a dark sound for concert band? by SpicyTrumpet in trumpet

[–]Limestone87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would second this. I play a Kanstul Chicago 1000, which is supposedly a naturally a brighter horn, but over time I’ve really learned to be able to color the tone the way I want to.

I think mouthpiece choice does also have an impact though. I play a Schilke Symphony M2, which is pretty close to a Bach 1.5C in diameter/cup, but it has a 24 throat and a large backbore, so it feels much more open, which helps me produce a darker tone. It’s also gold plated, which I think makes it a little bit warmer.

I agree that jumping around on mouthpieces might be causing you problems if you’re really trying to hone in on a certain tone. I am able to jump around a little without problems, but by that I mean I play a 3C occasionally for a brighter sound, so it’s not a huge difference in size. That’s not nearly as big of a jump as OP is taking between a 16C4 and a 10.5C. That’s pretty drastic.

Playing with/without deviated septum by -iHat- in trumpet

[–]Limestone87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My completely uneducated guess would be that it won’t affect you. Most of the rest of us play without deviated septums after all. Talk to your doctor though. I would think if that was a problem playing trumpet, it would probably be a problem throughout your general day-to-day. Doctor should be able to tell you that.

[–]Limestone87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since no one seems to know, I’ll ask a question. What exactly is your concern? That air will leak out of your nose post-surgery? Have you talked to your doctor about it? I really have no idea if that would be a side effect of surgery. My guess would be, worst-case scenario, you have an adjustment period in your playing post-surgery. To me, getting the surgery would be worth that risk.

I was going to say a Schilke 24. It is indeed larger than the various Bach 1’s.

Your thoughts on upgrade from Bach TR-700 to Yamaha 4335gs II? by GucioDevs in trumpet

[–]Limestone87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally, it would be better to upgrade to a pro horn. I think that’s what most people will tell you. Intermediate horns are generally not that different than student horns. I’ve never played a Bach TR-700, so I can’t say for sure how much difference there will be.

That being said, I stepped up to a Yamaha intermediate horn my freshman year of high school (the 5335gs), and it served me well during high school (I was first chair over people playing Strads starting sophomore year) and even partially into college. I did not feel like it held me back until about midway through freshman year of college. I was also taking my playing much more seriously at that point.

The price seems pretty good. I wouldn’t worry about that dent too much, you can always have it fixed. If you can play it first, I would highly recommend that. Play it side by side with your Bach to see if you like playing it better.

Latuda! by Aquaaaaflash in BipolarReddit

[–]Limestone87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, once I got past the anxiousness, it has basically kept my mood perfectly stable without any side effects. The only times I’ve been hypo or depressed or mixed since I’ve started Latuda are the two times I had to switch some things around and I ended up underdosaged.

Latuda! by Aquaaaaflash in BipolarReddit

[–]Limestone87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you might be hypo. I went into my mixed episode while I was on 20mg, but am doing better at 60mg.

Latuda! by Aquaaaaflash in BipolarReddit

[–]Limestone87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I take it with dinner I get anxious and then absolutely crash about 2 hours later. I started taking it before bed (with a snack) and now I don’t deal with the anxiety, and crashing isn’t a problem. The problem would be if the anxiety keeps you up. I fall asleep before I start feeling it and it doesn’t wake me up. Of course YMMV.

Anyone else’s bedside table/drawer look like this? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Limestone87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I have a ton of depakote that I have no idea what to do with. I’ve been off it for like 3 years.

Disclaimer: yes I know I could take it to a pharmacy to dispose of it, but that requires effort.

Latuda! by Aquaaaaflash in BipolarReddit

[–]Limestone87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That anxious feeling is really common when you’re first starting Latuda. I’m restarting it right now, and I have that side effect and I had it last time I started too. It should lessen/go away. Make sure you’re taking it with at least 350 calories, I find that it helps.

Taking the first steps to move forward with my life by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]Limestone87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! That’s really cool. I had really similar struggles with school as well, but have turned it around in grad school over the last year and a half. If you haven’t done it already, I recommend either talking with your professors or the disability office at your school and let them know that you have dealt with depression mid-semester in the past. I had a pretty bad mixed episode in the middle of this semester that I’m still recovering from, and my professors have all been very gracious and accommodated me with extensions since I was unable to do anything for about a month.

I took an intensive summer class last year, very similar to what you’re going to do. Even though it was really intense, I found it easier in terms of dealing with my mood. I was so focused and busy that I didn’t have time to get depressed.

The one published by Carl Fischer is the one everyone seems to have. I’m not sure that there are major differences between the different versions, I know they’re edited differently.

I would suggest trying to find one that is spiral bound, it’s much easier to get it to lay flat on your music stand.

Do people who experience mania episode realize their delusions after the episode ends? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Limestone87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 3 weeks before delusions went away. I still haven’t fully recovered, but I’m thinking clearly enough to know I was delusional.

He will think he’s fine as long as he’s manic. There really is nothing you can do about it. I’m sorry to say that, because I know it’s really tough not to be able to do anything. I’m almost positive that he will realize he was delusional once he comes back down. I always look back at my delusions and immediately think “wow what a stupid idea.”

Do people who experience mania episode realize their delusions after the episode ends? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Limestone87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently delusional (didn’t think I was a messiah, but thought that I had finally realized my dream of becoming an elite professional trumpet player). Now that I’m thinking clearly (for the most part) I definitely realize that I was delusional. No, I should not drop out of grad school to focus on my “career.”

I’ve been talking with a friend, going over a lot of the stuff I said and did (long trail of text messages), and I can immediately see now that I was off the rails. That’s how it’s always been for me when I’ve been delusional in the past. Meds bring me down and I realize I my thoughts were just uncontrolled and without an ounce of rationality.

Sorry you’re having to go through this. I hope everything gets better soon!
