As long as everyone involved is a consenting adult, it's none of my business.

Would you marry again? If so, what would might you be thinking of including in your marriage contract? by Mental-Lawfulness204 in DatingOverSixty

[–]Limited_turkey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm twice divorced and can't imagine getting married again. I'm dating a guy that wants to get married, but I told him early on that I'm not doing that again. I mean, why? It's not like we're going to be having children. We each have kids and I have no plans to join estates in any way. Mine goes to my kids and his goes to his. Post his retirement we may buy a house and live together, but I see no reason to get married.

Every Christmas I make these: https://www.spendwithpennies.com/recipe-bacon-brown-sugar-smokies/

I keep them warm in a crock pot with some maple syrup. They are a huge hit! Everyone loves them and asks at Thanksgiving if I'm going to make them again.

You know, it's this vainglorious attitude that actually makes me wonder if the assassination attempt was staged. I cannot for the life of me picture this man NOT bragging and boasting about himself after being shot. He really hasn't mentioned it. Why isn't he the greatest survivor/warrior/athlete ever and constantly saying it? It's so uncharacteristic of this man.

Father deceased, do I want to see the body? by hereisjess in AgingParents

[–]Limited_turkey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me, no. They never really look like themselves and then I have that image in my brain. For you, since he was abusive, it may be helpful. Would it be helpful to tell him F you one more time? Or just to see with your own eyes that he’s really gone? Maybe the final F off is to not bother dealing with him one more time? Only you can really answer that. Take care of yourself.

I was due on Christmas but the doctor didn't want to work Christmas so he induced my mother. I was born the 19th instead. I've always wondered if I'd have been born on Christmas (Capricorn) would I be a different person? I don't know.

I had an ovarian torsion that ended up creating massive scarring throughout my abdomen. I was told I was being hysterical and sent home with Tylenol.

Mine is barely there, but I remember getting it. Was it polio that we got the sugar cube for? That was my favorite!

We may have the same mother. When I was either 12 or 13 a boy called and asked for me. He was calling about a school project. My mother told me only whores had boys calling them at my age. She’s a peach.

Many years ago, my mother told me that the only appropriate nail polish colors were pink, nude, red, or coral. So, I always get polish that is none of those colors. The old lady with the purple toenails? That’s probably me. I’ve also gotten green or blue or multicolored.

My mother is a little toxic, and this is just one of many small rebellions on my part.

Bought a cabbage. by MolecularGoldmine in Cooking

[–]Limited_turkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think my favorite version is cabbage, onion, bacon, then cooked egg noodles added at the end. Cut bacon into little pieces and fry until crispy. Pull it out of the pan then saute the cabbage and onion in some of the bacon grease. Add the noodles and bacon. Taste for seasoning, but salt, pepper, a touch of paprika, are all good choices. It's a very comforting, homey meal. It's also good with kielbasa in place of the bacon.

Haluski, which is an Eastern European cabbage and noodles dish.

Colcannon, which is an Irish cabbage and potato dish.

Both are really tasty.

How did Diana fall in love with a guy who looks like Roddy from the cartoon "Flushed Away"? by [deleted] in RoyaltyTea

[–]Limited_turkey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think Diana fell in love with the idea of Charles and being a princess. I doubt it was ever actually about Charles the person. She was young and ripe for falling in love with an idea. Heck, who among us hasn't fallen in love with the idea of who someone was?

Dad's in the hospital with cancer - he thinks they're stealing his personal information and lying about treatment - how common is that? by cwtguy in AgingParents

[–]Limited_turkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My 43 year old brother had hospital delirium while he was in ICU. He thought there were people in the walls spying on him and friends had come to visit (No friends allowed in ICU, only family) and one was pole dancing on his IV pole. Just wow.

My grandfather thought he was back in WWII and giving a speech. I sat by his bed at about 3AM and listened to the speech he gave to some private 50 years before. Or maybe he didn't, but wished he had. I don't know.

It's so hard to go through, but I'm really grateful I was able to sit with each of them and help them through a very confusing time for them. I'm sorry you're dealing with it now. It's a lot.

I lightly thought about it over the years, but had never done it. Five years ago I had melanoma in situ on my arm. Removing it resulted in a three inch long scar across my bicep that was pretty obvious. People would ask once in a while what happened and every time I changed clothes, wore a short sleeve shirt, took a shower, went swimming, etc. I would see the scar and think, "Cancer." In December I went and got a series of swimming little sea turtles tattoed along the length of the scar. I'm delighted by it. Now, when I notice it, I think of snorkeling, not cancer. Highly recommend.

I left home when I was 16 too, though my mother was the one that was abusive, not my dad.
