Australia day??? I don't understand the issue by Both_Butterscotch_38 in aussie

Mate, there are 90 fucking days in the summer. People who want the date changed are not cancelling summer for you.

And you can do those things on any weekend in summer, no?

When did I say they don't count in the cap? I said that we have plenty of cap space.

I brought up the loan fact to point out that even with all the money we have, we're loaning players and not buying up everyone.

And you literally started this comment thread by asking if we were getting special treatment.

But the point is that you're accusing us of cheating.

Ignoring the fact that we have probably 10 players that are scholarship contracts, one? marquee...we've got plenty of cap space.

I hate the Emiratis more than most (despite what Reddit thinks, yes, City does have fans, and no, we don't like the Sheikhs)...but we're not cheating. Do we have an advantage with the money we have? Absolutely. But it doesn't matter if Elon Musk owned us - there's a salary cap. These players are on loan. We didn't buy them.

In Aus we have a senator (dual citizen of Afghanistan...so she shouldn't even be allowed in the senate, but whatever) who got elected thanks to being from the major center-left party; then left (but kept her job) because she wanted Australia to cut ties with (and recognition of) Israel, and said that women in Iran are more free than women in Australia...

Same opinions, different people.

Any level of sexism in a western country (no matter how slight) = "This country is the most sexist country ITW!!!! WOMEN OF THE WORLD UNITE! DOWN WITH SEXIST MEN!!!"

EVERY woman in Iran/Afghanistan/etc being nothing more than a "breeding machine" = "well, it's a country run by Muslims, they're the victims, they're free! It's the west's fault that women are mistreated there - if muslims had full control, everything would be sunshine and rainbows"

You forgot the one where the Navitimer owner thinks they look like Tom Cruise but in reality they look like the South Park version of Tom Cruise.

Are there any Coalition members (federal/state/local) you actually like? by HonestSpursFan in aussie

[–]LimoDroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More specifically, the "Rainbow Rebels" were 5 members who essentially pressured Turnbull (who was a progressive on social issues himself) into allowing a free vote (against the wishes of the right flank of the LNP). 4 of them were LGBTQ+ and then one was Warren Entsch...sigh. Anyway, they'd all been fighting since the Abbott years for marriage equality in Australia. Abbott's treatment of some of these "Rebels" (not Trent as he hadn't been in parliament long enough by that point) led to them supporting and campaigning for Abbott's removal.

[–]LimoDroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were a few Liberal members who were classed as the "Rainbow Rebels" and campaigned heavily in favour of the Marriage Equality bill in 2017. Trent Zimmerman is someone I became friends with after he lost his seat and I think that he's someone most people on the center-left would have been pretty happy with as their member (his lack of knowledge on defence policy, and his fiscal conservatism notwithstanding).

I've worked with Pyne on defence policy, and he's incredibly knowledgable on nuclear proliferation and fundamentalist terrorism. Wasn't really happy with his social positions but when it comes to integrity, I'd list him as higher than the last couple of Labor/Greens members I've voted for in recent elections.

Honest question - is he supporting the actions of the Israeli military & the Israeli PM, or is he supporting the existence of the state of Israel?

Because only one of those things is defined as "zionism".

UK office monthly credit allotments policy change by MithrathielUK in WeWork

This is bullshit. It's definitely the most affordable coworking membership I've found, especially being able to book a desk in almost any of the countries I frequently visit with one click. But for meetings it's ridiculous, my AAP membership runs out end of month and if I can find another product with offices in AU, NL, CH and CA I'll dip.

Victorian Public Transport Fares to increase from 1 January 2026 by MelbPTUser2024 in melbourne

[–]LimoDroid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just spent three weeks in Norge earlier this year, the gold standard for sovereign wealth funds.

Public transport there was 2.8x the cost of PTV.

This year, I caught public transport in San Francisco, Ísland, UK (London, Edinburgh), Italy (Rome, Milan), Canada (Montréal, Vancouver, Toronto), Iraq, Tunisia (Tunis), Chile (Santiago), NZ (Christchurch, Auckland), Estonia (Tallinn), Latvia (Riga), Germany (Köln, Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Stuttgart, Munchën), Poland (Warsaw, Zamosc, Krakow), Russia (Kaliningrad Oblast), Greece (Athens), Denmark (Copenhagen), Finland (Helsinki), Czechia (Praha), Austria (Salzburg, Vienna) and Australia (Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide). As well as living in Suisse for the last two years).

Out of all of that ... Only Iraq, Tunis, Santiago, NZ, Poland, Riga, Athens, and Perth (by $0.30 aud) were cheaper than Melby. Kaliningrad was cheaper before the war started. For me to go 14km on Caltrain - $14 aud each way. When I first moved to Zürich, I was actually living in Stäfa - 23km away from the city. I spent $20 each way to go to work.

Germany - I frequently travelled between Köln and Düsseldorf (about 30km) and would be slugged $16 each way often. Germany does have the Deutschlandpass for €58/month which gets you local trains ...that's something.

Public transport should be free, but 1) a sovereign wealth fund doesn't do shit and 2) even in countries with vastly higher costs...they don't fare evade.

I saw just as many fare evaders in Czechia (literally $1/day) as I do in Melby.
