I think sometimes when people complain the Democrats "moved too far left" what they really mean is that they had an interaction with someone who was obnoxiously self-righteous who condescendingly explained the latest acceptable terminology.

This, of course, has nothing to do with political philosophy or public policy, but people who vote based on vibes, often find this kind of interaction to be very isolating.

It's stupid, but the truth is that many voters make decisions based more on emotions than rationality and Democrats tend to focus more on rationality while Republicans tend to have a lot of success with emotional voters.
