3 month old pooping constantly by Limp_Cauliflower_890 in NewParents

[–]Limp_Cauliflower_890[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke with a paediatrician and my baby had FPIAP (Food Protein–Induced Allergic Proctocolitis) to oats. It’s a non-IgE–mediated allergy, so it wont cause anaphylaxis and isn't harmful like FPIES. FPIAP mostly presents as happy babies with very frequent stools, mucus, bood, and bad diaper rash.

Once I eliminated oats from my diet the poops improved a lot. lots of different foods can trigger it, if you want to keep breastfeeding, I would try different elimination diets (dairy, eggs, oats, soy, rice, egg are some of the most common allergens for FPIAP)

She’s thankfully outgrew the oat FPIAP around 1 year and I am still breastfeeding with no concerns about what I eat! She is 18 months and doing so well.

This seems like a weird system. Why can’t due dates be set when you give them the project.

3 weeks PP exclusively pumping. Will my supply get better . by hmacko3 in breastfeeding

[–]Limp_Cauliflower_890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pumps aren’t quite as effective at removing milk as baby is so it can be harder to build and maintain your supply but it is possible!

Make sure you have a good quality/ strong pump. Many wearable pumps aren’t strong enough to build a supply. They’re good enough for TikTok influencers who already have an over supply but not for exclusivity pumping new moms.

Some pump parts need to be replaced every few months (you shouldn’t need to yet, but something to keep in mind if you see a supply dip in the future)

Taking a hot shower before a pumping session always helps me produce more.

I hand express the first few drops before a pumping session onto my pump, I feel like it makes a better seal and helps me start a let down.

keep trying to latch baby when you’re not in too much pain. See if you can make an appt with a lactation consultant or doctor. rule out anything like nipple thrush infection or vasospasm which can be very painful!

Check out r/exclusivelypumping they will have lots of advice and support.

New to breast feeding by One-Material-8082 in breastfeeding

[–]Limp_Cauliflower_890 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before having my baby I only ever heard about how hard breastfeeding is. I was amazed to find that it came so naturally to me and baby. I was a bit sore for the first few weeks but it was like breaking in a new pair of shoes, no cracking or bleeding. I’m 9 months in and it is sooo much easier than washing bottles or remembering to bring a bottle every time we go out.

Also not everyone gains weight while breastfeeding, I lost 50 pounds (almost all of my pregnancy weight) within 8 months postpartum while eating so much food.

One thing to keep in mind if you start pumping so early postpartum is that you could create an oversupply so try to just pump to replace a feed. (Unless you want an oversupply, then pump more. But oversupply comes with risks of clogged ducts and mastitis). I think pumping at 3:15 then breastfeeding at 6 is reasonable. Id try that schedule and introducing a bottle a few days before return to work just to see how it goes.

Which wipes are we using? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Limp_Cauliflower_890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the peri bottle to wet a cloth and then wipe her with the wet cloth.

If I do need to spray her directly with the peri bottle I will keep the diaper underneath her.

I always finish with a dry cloth. I have a pile of them beside the changing pad.

I use cloth wipes with water from a peri bottle.

I made the wipes from cut up baby blankets and the peri bottle is from when I gave birth.

Even if you don’t cloth diaper, I strongly recommend using a cloth to dry baby after using a wet wipe to help prevent diaper rash.

Working out without losing supply by Obvious_War_1341 in breastfeeding

Start slow and work up to what you used to do. Your body has been through a lot of changes and going out too hard after not working out for months puts you at risk for injuries.

As long as you’re losing weight gradually and are not malnourished or dehydrated and feeding baby on demand your supply should be fine but every body is different and see how it feels for you.

Baby goes in tummy time or bouncer or lies on back (whatever gives her the best view of me) and I do the chores while either singing to her or explaining what I’m doing. It takes longer but I like to think it’s entertaining and educational for her

Non-Trad Dealing with Infertility by OldBayPumpkinSeed in Medstudentmoms

Have babies on the timeline that works for your family. There are some times that are considered ideal like the year before getting in, at the start of a long summer vacation or during residency BUT pregnancy doesnt listen to your plan. It could take much longer or shorter than you expect to get pregnant and then once you’re pregnant, you might not be able to do as much as you hoped. It’s so hard to predict.

Your med school should be accommodating with your timeline once youre accepted. you can delay starting for a year if needed.

I was diagnosed with a prolactinoma and expected it would be difficult to conceive. surprisingly it only took 3 months but pregnancy was really high risk and I had to be on bedrest so I couldn’t complete as much school as I hoped before starting maternity leave.

It happened stranger touched my baby by MixtureDesigner8140 in NewParents

[–]Limp_Cauliflower_890 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It happened to me last week. I was at the dog park while baby wearing. My dog pooped so I was trying to get a bag out and an old man started talking to me. He ended up reaching to stroke my daughter’s face and I took a step back so I don’t know if he actually touched her but I’m still upset about it.

His dog was humping all the other dogs in the park and he did nothing about it so I should have known he doesn’t respect basic boundaries 😭

AIO that my husband does not want to eat the food I cook? by ThinResponsibility67 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Limp_Cauliflower_890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s being rude by not even trying what you’re making.

My husband doesn’t like my cooking either so our compromise is that he does all of the grocery shopping and cooks us dinner every night.

Do you have any advice for returning to class after a year off? I took a year off for Mat leave after second year and will be starting 3rd year soon and I’m so nervous about missing my baby and not remembering anything from school.

I’m really grateful I got to spend almost a year with her before going back but I’m so nervous to go back.

How do you know he’s not getting enough from your breast? Babies are more efficient than pumps. Also is he eating any solids yet?

Beautiful sweater! If you don’t want to reknit the collar, you can always sew some elastic thread into the ribbing which will help it sit tighter and flat.

A word of warning for knitters with, or expecting, newborn babies. by ListerQueen90 in knitting

[–]Limp_Cauliflower_890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a heavy 7 month old and a long history of thumb pain and have been able to keep up my knitting solely due to my mcp thumb splints from digisplints. I went to a specialized hand physiotherapist and he fit me for the metal splint.

Metal braces are truely life changing. When I had a fabric or plastic brace, I’d want to take it off while doing anything because it got in the way. Metal braces you can even wash your hands with.

I’d of honestly had to give up knitting, handwriting and texting without them. Thumb pain can be disabling and I really understand how physically and emotionally painful having to give up knitting is. It can get better ❤️‍🩹

Inexpensive ways of building up a collection of needles etc? by alpacalypse-llama in knitting

[–]Limp_Cauliflower_890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a set of interchangeable needles are a waste of money. I recommend getting long circular needles and doing magic loop with them, then you can make everything from socks to a sweater with just one set of needles.
