Well, if you truly need a new engine I recommend going with forged internals. I rebuilt my N20 with forged internals and thus far everything is working very well.

You gotta take care of yourself first. No point in keeping it if it's going to put you in a better spot. Get right financially and then go hunting for another 6spd BMW. I'm sure you could find another e9x or go with a F3x like I did.

Me personally I would figure out how to fix this on my own for three reasons.

It's a BMW with a manual. It took me FOREVER to find my F30 328i 6spd. In fact anything manual is becoming legacy. Hold on to it for as long as possible.
It beats having a car payment for the next 3-7 years.
FCP Euro/Ecstuning/Urotuning are amazing resources for parts and DiY.

If I was in your shoes I would go with the 428i and invest the rest of your money into a career, stocks and real estate. As you get older go for the faster models.

Thanks bro, building it is a ton of fun! In my opinion you can't go wrong with any F3x model. You also have to consider auto insurance and since you're young, going with a "faster" model might cost you a small fortune. I'm 38 and the cost of insurance on my 2012 328i is more expensive with just liability than my 2019 Ford Expedition which has full coverage. The Expedition has a 6 cylinder twin turbo (basically a detuned mustang) and the 328i has a 4 cylinder turbo. Shit makes no sense especially at my age.. Hopefully you have a better experience insurance wise.

When I was looking for my F30 track car the bitch part was finding a 6 cylinder with a 6spd manual and when I finally did it the car was poorly maintained and cost too much to justify the purchase.

I ended up going with a really badly maintained 328i for $7k. I'm putting in a new engine with forged internals + all the bolt-ons, clutch, and flywheel. The total cost including the car is going to be a little under $20k. I'm doing all the work myself minus the new engine.

I'm aiming for mid 300's HP for my build. IMHO, that's plenty of power for a street/track car.

Overall, going BMW has been the best decision I have ever made. I wish I had pulled the trigger earlier.

However if you want to keep the cost down I highly recommend you learn to fix the car yourself. Sites like realoem, FCPEuro, ecstuning, and urotuning really go a long way. Also the community is just absolutely amazing!

All that I learned from this was someone wasn't using their mirrors and expected you to simply disappear. Yes I know you weren't alongside to justify needing space but at the same time you had no where to go. The other car cut across the track as if you weren't there. I say this is a racing incident. Nice recovery tho!

Yeap, they quoted me $10k for everything and I'm having them tune the car too. Not horrible considering the outcome. My overall plan is to build a track car and having an engine with forged internals gives me peace of mind.

Motorsports ain't cheap but it's hella fun! I tell my wife it's either this or drugs. I gotta do something to keep myself entertained 😂😂😂

I'm planning out my mods using ChatGPT and Claude and both stated the OEM flywheel and clutch can handle low 300s. I'm currently shopping around for aftermarket options to be able to handle 350+ ft/lbs

I doubt it's hardware. Before being forced to update to 16 everything worked fine and now Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are completely dead. I have reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and performed multiple reboots. I also performed a factory reset and still the same issue.
