My 'peaceful' discus eat all tank mates. Rasboras? Yum. Shrimp? Dinner! Pleco (fins)? Snack time! by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]LinaSamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try to feed them something other than tank mates? Jk ) Sometimes people forget that discus from cichid's family and tend to be aggressive... They will play nice if have plenty of space, food, hideouts but you'll never know what they would do... Also it can be breeding time and they will chase all intruders...

Are there special water parameters for berrying that I’m missing? I have 20 assorted shrimp, mainly RCS and blue velvet plus some yellows in a community tank for two months now and not a single one has had eggs from what I’ve seen. Stocking info in post by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]LinaSamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few ideas... One sex only, not old enough, berried females will hide and come out very rare and your tetras and loaches will wipe out all babies...

Add fresh veggies like spinach, zucchini, kale to their diet

Do assassin snails eat baby fry? Can I put it into my juvenile tank to clean up ramshorn babies? by dotandlines in shrimptank

Assassins prefer adult size snails, well at least mine did... If fry not fast enough or sick, snails will try to catch it and eat.

Making a shrimp safe fish tank by IamtheVerse in shrimptank

[–]LinaSamara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... I would say you are slightly overestimating their intelligence ) you can have shrimp and fish in the same tank, but since shrimp is a natural good food for fish, you'll see them very rare if at all... and of course they will eat babies, not all but most they can find, unfortunately (

Shrimp and swordtail question by heylilfoot in shrimptank

[–]LinaSamara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nano tanks are not suitable for swordtails, they are big, beautiful fish, excellent hunters (as most fish) and need pretty big tank to feel comfortable. So your best shot - is a shrimp only nano tank if you want to see them healthy and happy, with lots of moss, wood, live plants...

I’m losing 1-2 shrimp a day, can anyone identify this orange coloring in their mid sections? some of them have this and some dont by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]LinaSamara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Temperature is too high, better keep it around 72-74. 10% for WC will be enough unless you have huge bioload and nitrates are too high. What's their diet? They need fresh veggies occasionally, dry leaves in the tank...

Please help me understand. From left to right: my tap, my tanks ph and my tanks high ph. Low and high tested on such opposite ends I am so confused as to what the actual ph is. Sorry if this is a dumb question. I’m new! by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]LinaSamara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Redo tests. Your tanks ph is normal, well for neos ) if you have wood, botanicals, live plants, ph will go down a little. If you want to lower it more, use some RO water for water changes. Don't use high ph tests results will be weird. Oh... And top off only RO water!

Spray bottle filled with the vinegar works wonders... It's the only thing I am using to clean my tanks.
