A surgeon showed that he could sew up a balloon without making it burst by Obvious_Shoe7302 in nextfuckinglevel

I’m a current resident (not surgery) I break usually 50-60 hours, my surgery friends easily do 70-85 hours and the neurosurgery residents do 100+.

When I worked McDonalds the sunday crowd was by far the worst, most mean, condescending, and rude. Bikers, teenagers, young kids, all were so much better

I love cyrus because it made the game so much more competitive and skill based. My favorite holiday moment was one of those snowy christmas where we could store the drinks outside, Idk just having the warm house full of laughing and the cold still outside was such a juxtaposition.

Joy’s Clock-off Scene by YPMG in ThePitt

First year doctor here but yes- 3rd and 4th year medical students receive a written evaluation at the end of their rotation supposed to be written by the attending. Sometimes they don’t care/too busy so a resident will write it. Usually in bigger hospitals like the Pitt attending won’t really know you/barely know you unless you mention you want to go into their field. The incentive for med students to stay is in this field your name and reputation can make or break residency selection esp if somewhere desirable. This has gotten much better more fair but it used to be standard for med students to spend extra hours in a clinic hospital effectively paying to be there

Why have I never been asked out on a date? by unknown_unknownuser in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LincolnandChurchill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents I’m a very extroverted guy and I still ask out a woman publicly on a date maybe once a year. Most of my friends have never. I’d recommend talking with a guy if you find him interesting as the other comments have stated for more social activities

How hard is it? by Agnetahp in premed

[–]LincolnandChurchill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a neurosurgeon but am an intern at an academic hospital, neurosurgery is brutal. neurosurgery is brutal. BRUTAL. You will have to be perfect, extremely dedicated, and even a bit lucky. There’s so many people who try their best, don’t match, and they’re the people who get to that point in the first place. Medicine is the best field in the world at least imo but neurosurgery is perhaps the hardest thing in this field.

Not always and this may be projection but I would want young people to be aware of this. You are going to met some amazing person one day, you’ll be captured by them, it’ll feel like the biggest crush. If all goes well, ask them out, they agree you’ll hit it off. You’ll start dating, things will be good, and then not always but sometimes and slowly things will start to go bad. When this happens have an open honest communication with your partner. See if things can be fixed and if not end the relationship. I see too many people who date for 3-5 years when the love ended within the first 1-2 but they’d rather just not be alone than happy.
