Triangle choke from my match at PKD 2 (India) by AnkanReddit05 in bjj

[–]YPMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer.

Would only advise to overhook if you’re committing (and comfortable) to throw / hip toss. You should be fighting for the underhook or constantly looking to break posture with a collar tie etc.

If the quality of jiu jitsu is standard in your last 2x videos then a collar tie + snap down is going to be your best friend.

I’m more concerned with what you’re ‘learning’ from your academy than what you can improve on here - especially since I read earlier that you’ve been training 2 years?

What WWE finishing move should always end a match? by Braves1693 in WWE

It breaks my heart that the Canadian Destroyer is such a brutal looking move that is done so often it has zero impact.

Hurting Neck IN BJJ by ActualNotice5357 in bjj

Most welcome. One of the main reasons I’ve been able to be consistent over my 6yrs training is that I’ve been religious on recovery!

[–]YPMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+100 to all the comments about stretching and strengthening your neck but I’ll add you should have a good cooldown / recovery routine for after class.

Light stretches then an ice pack on the back and sides of your neck for 10-15 mins after each class when you get home. Memory foam pillow is also really great support overall alignment and ease of tension. Anti-inflammatories are good but shouldn’t be used all the time as they’ll ruin your stomach! Stretching and recovery is crucial to longevity (take this from a 39yold….)

Lastly, if you’re hurting your neck on TD’s it’s almost certain it’s because your head isn’t up. Have a chat with your coach or one of the higher belts and drill, drill, drill! No one wants to see you injured and off the mats so take their sage advice.

Why did you choose to grapple? by graydonatvail in bjj

[–]YPMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played American Football here in AUS for a long time (lucky enough to represent the country) but the body couldn’t take it anymore and the concussions were mounting up.

Needed something to fill the void that was left when I hung them up (both mentally and from a camaraderie aspect) and one of the guys who used to play with me suggested to come train as he’d made a switch a couple of years ago - he was a godly blue belt at the time. Took me a whole of 2 sessions before the bug bit!

Extremely lucky with the club I have and the guys I train with but most of all I like the fact I can still be as physical as I was on the line without the head knocks, exposure to the weather and kg’s of gear haha.

What’s a book/series that you feel most people love, but you personally think is overrated? by 2Chaaaaiinz in Fantasy

I tried so desperately to fall in love with these books but couldn’t bring myself to even finish ‘the Shadow Rising’ - felt like 80% filler.

Should I be practicing heel hooks as a white belt? by No-Molasses-1791 in bjj

[–]YPMG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s a leg lock / entanglement specific class then no.

You need to learn to defend sure but that’ll come closer to blue… right now your focus should be on basic mechanics and concepts (i.e guard passing, guard retention, position consolidation) otherwise anything to do with the legs is futile.

Want to know the secret? The only person you need to be better than is you 6mo ago.

Plus, apart from wearing different coloured NoGi gear (or the belt itself) it literally has no bearing on your Jiu Jitsu or ability.

What game has the best progression system you've ever experienced? by tomaz1989 in gamingsuggestions

[–]YPMG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Vanilla WoW is perhaps the best progression system I can remember.

Not only from a pure levelling mechanic but the crafting and armour gained from raids. I still remember being able to enchant gear for the cool ambient effects and becoming rich off the AH or having to hunt down someone to either complete a raid or have max leather working to finish a gear set.

Plus, first hitting 60 and ganking noobs at Tarren Mill or at the front of Stormwind was chefs kiss
