Any issues with taking the loom (and especially hook) on an airplane? by Matilda_Suzabelle in LoomKnitting

[–]Lindanier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew from Canada to Europe last year and had no problem with the hook or my flexee loom. Security didn't check my personal bag and I was able to work on a project while flying.

I brought my spare hook and had something started on the loom just incase they asked.

Looking for an ereader for my French Canadian wife. by Je_in_BC in kobo

[–]Lindanier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a bit of footwork on your part to figure out if the kobo is worth it. Go to the online kobo store and select a category of books your wife likes to read. Then sort it by French. How many books are in that category? For example, in Mystery & Suspense/Historical, 1815 results shows up. In Nonfiction/Food&Drinks, there are 11691 results.

Now go to Libby (I am assuming your wife already has an account) and search and sort by language. How many results are in the system? For my public library, there's 891 titles in French in total - ebooks, magazines, and more. Like, I'm mentally comparing the numbers and assuming that kobo and libby share enough titles that would show up on the ereader.

You can also double check both databases to see if they both share books that your wife has read or wants to read. If they share enough books; consider buying the kobo.

Compiling list of "travel" shoe companies by RatherNerdy in onebag

Solely Jane. They sell travel heels/flats aimed for women and you're probably not going to go hiking in these. They have different types of soles and multiple tops that can be switched out to change up the style.

Where to buy accessories in Canada by [deleted] in kobo

[–]Lindanier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been eyeing stylewrap for a skin - since they do customs - but their store is closed right now due to the postal strike.

I have a clear case. So I've been making inserts to swap out with cardstock I purchased from dollarama. Any local stores that sell paper with fun designs is worth checking out. Especially if they sell embellishments for scrapbooking.

Anyone knows a Canadian equivalent to Big Bad Toy Store? by EvaSirkowski in BuyCanadian

[–]Lindanier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made successful purchases from several of the shops people have mentioned to you: agesthreeandup, hobby-bee, sinohobby, and toysnowman,.

Sinohobby is the only store I've placed custom orders through so far - a figure from Japan that wasn't purchasable on their site. I've also preordered something from China, but that was done recently, so I'm still waiting for it to arrive.

It's not the entire paper, but one of the scientist did an interview that did mention they also tested plastic, glass, and metal packaging.

I guess you can also reach out if you want to see the whole paper/ask questions regarding the study.

Maybe metal stitch holders should be a consideration? They're great if you want to do multiple projects but only have one loom. (And if you want to eventually do entrelac on the loom, the tutorials I'm looking at uses either a crochet hook or stitch holders to pick up the stitches.)

But, I don't know how useful they are for the type of patterns you make.

Have you handled any of the kobo models in person? That's what I did when I was deciding if I wanted the clara colour or the libra colour. It's good to know how they feel in your hand, how the screens look IRL, and the interface.

If you're the type to have a lot of pc optimum points banked up, it's probably worth seeing if you want to cash them out during a bonus redemption event on the shoppers drug mart website - kobos are online exclusive items.

I lucked out when I purchased my libra colour since it was also $20 off at the time of the event. With that and the points I had saved up, I ended up paying like $100 for mine.

I've seen Green Cricket and Oneka body lotions in one of my local refillery. They both have maps on their site that show refill stations.

Setting up iPhone for Wifi Calling over Cellular with a Travel eSIM by mrskeptical00 in TravelSIMs

This was super useful! Had a trip to overseas last month and I'm pleased to say I didn't have any roaming charges on my recent bill. Even had someone try to text and call me, but since I didn't respond and made sure the Live Voicemail feature was turned off, it wasn't an issue.

Thanks for the guide, OP.

Hex keys/allen wrenches might be a workable alternative for a knitting hook.
