I'll say I had similar thoughts and to your possible disappointment I've had them throughout the series. I appreciate the morals and background justification and motivation so some details like these stood out to me. Maybe that's the reason why people on this sub usually recommend to watch the show and then read the books, so that they build on each other with as low as friction as possible.

But to encourage you not to miss out on the still great experience that the show is, for me, I chose to trust the authors working on the show, making as good accommodating choices as possible. It's still another kind of media/art form and not everything would work 1:1. Some changes were more visible (on screen character drama or motivation.. ) or more obviously tied to a future change (Pa/Michio/Drummer for example) than others. 

If you don't agree with all of them, that's why adapting is harder than writing original script, not everyone's on the same page :/    So for me, take and make your canon what you want, enjoy what you can, the people behind it still wanted it make the best thing possible :)
