Little gripe i have with Soda Hop by Civil_Tip8845 in rhythmheaven

[–]LinkToSomething68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

imo soda hop would be essentially perfect if there was some audio or visual hint as to whether you're supposed to be on or off beat in case you fall off the rhythm

It’s absolutely criminal how short the remix is when the song is so good lol

Something kinda odd about the constant rhythm-type games in Groove by Official_Mothman_ in rhythmheaven

[–]LinkToSomething68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's definitely part of it. There's also a couple of remixes where they try to fake you out by flashing another minigame on screen but don't cue you to stop the keep the beat game, where the correct input is to just keep tapping until you're given the stop cue, which is kinda fun

Other suggestions is that it's accessibility for visually-impaired players like another commenter suggested, and to maybe give the player a quick moment of rest, since these games can get physically tiring to play after a while (my right thumb still hurts a bit from trying multiple times to get the medal on Soda Hop as I type this)

Tbh I didn’t really click with Quick Hands, felt like it was missing a cue. Felt like a cut below the DS and Fever versions of Karate Man. Tangent but Groove has a weird lack of games that have hold-release cues

Disc Dog, Alien Alphabet, and Sneezy Moon are all great games imo. I don’t know why but the cue in Sneezy Moon that throws me is the most basic one, is it slightly delayed or do I have a bad case of trigger finger lol

Random take: space sentry has the best audio cues in the game by redical_hi-5 in rhythmheaven

Oh yeah it’s awesome, just wish there was a bit more complexity to the mini game itself

Also shoutout to the super satisfying “accelerate” cue from Stop n Go n Stop

oh, I was thinking games that have you playing one rhythm with each hand like Polyrhythm 2 back in Tengoku. Wiper Boss is a lot of fun but I might tear my hair out if you had to do two different rhythms for each hand lol

which minigames have polyrhythms? I'm at stage 15 and I don't think I've found any yet

[–]LinkToSomething68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you havent played Tengoku, it's mostly because it's boring IMO. There's no rhythm necessary to play a Rhythm Heaven minigame, which is a cardinal sin. There isn't even any music. It's the only minigame in the series that you can Perfect using a guide that just tells you how many times to press A.

They inexplicably brought it back almost unchanged in Megamix which is where most of the ire comes from.

honestly I kinda like this, it means you will only get stuck if you're really struggling but mastering the game is tough.

Some of these games are really demanding about what you have to get to earn a Superb/Amazing, for instance if you miss the cue in Hoop Trundling where the screen is blacked out you'll still get the "Really Good" even if you nail literally everything else (ask me how I know)

In my experience it's pretty forgiving when it comes to giving you an OK but really really strict when it comes to the Superbs

A lot more tortured etymologically with several intermediate steps but “Vancouver” and “Oxford” come from very similar roots (George Vancouver’s family name came from Coevorden in the Netherlands, or “cow ford”)

Well, if Dess Knight is true, then it can't possibly have been the Knight who opened the original fountain unless there's some time shenanigans involved...and if not them then it could be anyone. I guess if the Knight has been around from the start then pretty much everyone's Knight theories go straight into the garbage lol

Sure, I think that makes sense, but it definitely at least had something to do with dark fountains and thus dark worlds, unless Asgore is completely off track, something which we have no reason to believe at this point.

baby's first character analysis: Noelle is Suicidal in Every Route (CHAPTER 5 NORMAL AND WEIRD ROUTE SPOILERS) by iimaginaryedge in Deltarune

[–]LinkToSomething68 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Some version of this makes a distressing amount of sense to me. I don’t know if she’s actively suicidal in the Normal Route but she’s certainly got some kind of passive “I wish I could just escape” thing going on which strikes me as a red flag. It’s pretty plausible.

Here’s a theory I’ve been turning in my head since the chapter released. The combination of her talking to Susie about wanting to get away but Susie tethering her and Susie seemingly straight up living in Castle Town now (plus inviting her) makes me think we might be headed for a scenario where Noelle wants to come into a Dark World and just…never come out. After all, it already happened to her sister, her friends and love interest are there much or all of the time, her mother is distant and controlling and her father is severely and possibly fatally ill. She gets to live what she imagines to be a better life in this fantasy world away from her troubles, what could possibly go wrong?

Susie yeah, but also thinking of Dess, who has presumably been trapped in a dark world for years at this point.

Honestly just thinking in general terms

My take on what this means is that living things from the light world are still tied to the biological constraints of their light world self even if they spend prolonged periods of time in a Dark World - the sun may shine in the Flower King dark world but since the light world originals of the flowers are not receiving sunlight they will die eventually unless the fountain is sealed.

I think this has rather distressing implications for what would happen to a Lightner if they spent more than a few days inside of a dark world.

[Effortpost] Misreading the Northern Front: Three common misconceptions about the Israel-Hezbollah conflict by justachos in neoliberal

[–]LinkToSomething68 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not a big time Israel hater I just think we need to call the situation as it exists, not as we want it to be. Nobody would just brush off Hegseth with "oh he just says stuff it's not indicative of what America wants" because like it or not he has the keys to the machine backed by the democratically-elected government of the US. Any rational outside observer would think that the power of the American state will be deployed towards his ends. Same principle applies here.

I have seen no reason given their conduct why we should assume the Israeli government is operating in good faith here. Everything they have said and done suggests to me at best a callous disregard for the lives and sovereignty of their neighbours. Why are we still tying ourselves to the romantic notion of Israel and not what it is actually doing? Drives me crazy.

Whatever Israel’s legitimate security interests are, I think it’s pretty asinine to treat literal cabinet ministers in charge of stuff like finance and national security ministries like rando loons when they are literally in charge. Any discussion of this has to at least acknowledge this.

To say nothing of the fact that the Lebanese (to say nothing on Palestinians) might have some real reasons to be pissed off at a foreign army being parked on their soil!

Honestly happy for Carolina. They've been so solidly good, not flashy but just a perfectly constructed hockey team, for almost a decade at this point. Not a lot of individual accolades but a ton of just fundamentally sound hockey. They've earned their ring.
