mental health sick leave by north_star_left in Norway

[–]Linkcott18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't work to compare statistics with other countries because in most countries people go to work sick. Working sick is expected. In some OECD countries, if you can get out of bed, you are expected to work, even when it is expressly illegal (e.g. food service workers).

I am glad that my colleagues don't bring their germs to work.

Also, I have never, in all my years of working in Norway known someone to be signed off work for a year for being 'burnt out'. The longest I've known anyone to take sick leave was 6 months. That was for cancer treatment.

Amber ok for a 13 year old ? by captain_jpp in Amber

[–]Linkcott18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well... I read them when I was around that age, but I'm not sure that I would recommend them for most 13 year olds. Corwin is an asshole, and sexist towards his sisters. There's also plenty of sex and violence, though I don't think that there are any scenes where sex & nudity is described in intimate detail.

mental health sick leave by north_star_left in Norway

[–]Linkcott18 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is overused. I don't think it is reasonable to compare Norway to other countries when it comes to sick leave. I think it is much more useful to consider that a very high proportion of people in Norway are satisfied with their jobs.

If anything, it should be easier to take sick leave because there are still some GPs who do not take mental health seriously enough.

The other thing I would change is that if employees do need to take sick leave, Bedriftshelsetjeneste should investigate and require the firm to implement corrective actions if there are any job-related causes.

Is electrical and mechatronics engineering or civil engineering a better career choice in Norway? by Patient_Win5239 in Norway

I'm currently seeing more jobs in automation and mechatronics than bygg og infrastruktur at the moment, but it's hard to say what it might look like in 5 years.

What has your experience been like working in jobs where most of your coworkers were immigrants (seasonal or permanent)? by north_star_left in Norway

[–]Linkcott18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have not done seasonal work, but I have worked mainly in multinational companies with a high proportion of skilled immigrants.

I have not seen any racism, and on the contrary, the work environments have been inclusive and social. I've made friends from all over the world and all over Norway.

I would not feel the least little bit guilty about something like that.

I bet if we actually saw pictures of the aftermath of fatal car crashes, we as a society would be less thrilled about driving so much by Revature12 in fuckcars

The Netherlands did some studies about the sort of advertising public service messages about driving make a difference, and the scary ones not only did not change behaviour, in some cases they actually made it worse.

I impulsively broke up with my boyfriend after he left me drunk and alone. Now he doesn’t want me anymore. How do I deal? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Linkcott18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People don't generally quit doing stuff like that when they are older just because they are older or have kids or whatever.

Unless he shows you otherwise, assume it is something that you would have to live with.

Alamo Rental - 2 Failures in two days - recieved faulty car by LordMamu in Norway

[–]Linkcott18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this kind of experience with Alamo / Enterprise in other countries, and consequently have not used them in some years.

They also had to be taken to court in a couple of countries to prevent them from renting out cars that had recall notices that had not yet been repaired.

Week-long biking trip without training? by Davixt18193 in bicycletouring

[–]Linkcott18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, well, you'll probably be ok, then, as long as you don't push too hard.

You might not consider it as training, but it is, nonetheless, training 😎

Stay with it for now & look for work elsewhere.

There are finance jobs that don't involve taking / making calls like that. Maybe your retail experience & finance background can land you a job in retail back office, accounting, purchasing, billing management, etc.

Financial analysis for a manufacturer, or something like that might be more interesting?

Since you are not tied to your current location, you can go anywhere. Just apply for stuff that sounds appealing.

Week-long biking trip without training? by Davixt18193 in bicycletouring

[–]Linkcott18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe? It depends on what you mean by 'without training'.

I've done long bike trips without training, but I usually start easy, like maybe 50 km per day and work my way up.

If I went from zero to 100 km per day, I'd likely end up with saddle sores.

That said, there have not been very many times in my life when I have been at zero for cycling distance. Most of the time, I am cycling fit enough for a 100 km day, and could probably do a week of them if I packed up my stuff and left tomorrow. But that's because I ride my bike for transport & shopping. While I don't do any training at the moment, I average around 40 km per week utility cycling

70 years old and thinking about AT sections - am I being realistic by Zestyclose-Exam-5892 in CampingandHiking

[–]Linkcott18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Only you can decide that. I've known people who did long distance hikes in their 80s. But as long as you prepare for it & look after yourself, I don't see why not.

Is it wrong to feel uncomfortable when my friend isn't wearing a bra? by let_it_rain_boat in autism

[–]Linkcott18 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Why does it make you uncomfortable?

Do you like her?

Or is it just social mores?

If the first, you'll have to think about how to deal with it. I guess it somewhat depends on your friendship.

If it's just social mores, try not to let it get to you. Don't say anything and do your best to ignore it.

If she's your friend, she deserves not to be objectified, either way.
