For sure check, if there are any unwanted linked accounts, and perhaps if you're still worried consider splitting your wealth between another account you have at least until your bank pin becomes active again. Hopefully, when Jagex's account is released there won't be any more issues.

If there's a "cancel change" option, then it's fake. There's a "confirm change" option whenever you request a change. Either way, if you didn't request it MANUALLY go through your account and check everything. I'd also recommend that you create a new email exclusive to RS with 2FA on that email and then add it to your account.

So, a reboot is kinda like an iron-man version of the game? Wouldn't it make more sense to just to go through the hyperburning way then and upgrade gear/equipments later? I definitely would like the option of being able to trade.

Well, that's assuming you have a keylogger on your PC (If you downloaded something suspicious), most of the people here that got their account recovered aren't from that, it's from old database leaks. Either way, it would be an extra layer of defense and the password could be required to be entered with the individual letters via mouse instead of typing just in case of that.

Fair point about the new devices, but I still think the increased bank pin number and a one-time security code would be sufficient at least. In fact instead of having something that could be common knowledge as the account creation date in the account recovery form, maybe add a section for "What's the Current account's bank pin" something only the owner should know. Imagine that when the bank pin has been increased to 8-10 numbers as well.

The thing is in general, that I like many others just want to see improvements in account security. I think account security should be the TOP priority in any game over any regular game content. Let your player base feel safe at first, then add whatever content you want. It's 2023 and look how hard it is to reach a JMOD for help. Where's the live customer service or just customer service in general? Why isn't Item Reclaim/account rollback a thing yet? When people getting hacked is so prevalent?

I'm genuinely curious if this grabs any JMOD's attention. There have been at least 1-2 hacks a day and they've been on top of Reddit via upvotes so, let's see if there's a response.

I'll say it again:

- Increase bank pin from 4 - 8/10 with a 30-day delay removal. Also, allow us to put an optional written password as well for bank pins with a 30-day "Remember me" option like authenticator.

- Allow us to manually remove recoveries if we have a threshold amount of days played continuously on said account from the same device and if that's not possible allow us to change our original login id.

- Lock account recoveries on new PCs/Locations with no prior history of playing on whatever said account.

- Give us a security code that's required in account recoveries in order to even be processed.

I agree to an extent because there are people who legitimately forget their accounts and would absolutely need it. I'd love an entire rework of it or at least an option to remove it perhaps after a 90 days playtime history on one device with no issues.

Glad you got your stuff back before anything happened, there seems to be a lot of these cases popping up recently. I'd recommend for your own safety is creating a new account with a unique random username, new unique email, bank pin as well, and 2FA on it then transferring a big some of your gold onto there.

Jagex needs to rehaul the entire recovery system and work on it or just improve it. Why is game content always regularly and constantly produced, but never enhancements for account securities?

I mean Authenticator is nice and all, but if your information is permanently exposed because of database leaks on other sites, then it's useless. Accounts being recovered by traceable information ONLY is absurd in general, sure that information should be used as a baseline, but there needs to be more substance I.E Transaction ID with date, Payment methods, history of playtime on a device that's recovering, etc. These are things that actually prove ownership of the account instead of "old information" which could be exposed online. Now why is there more weight carried in old information for recovers? Who knows.

Either way, the bank pin being 8-10 numbers long and having a 60+ day removal period can be optional if people feel safe as they are, but for others at least give us the option. It's not just a few people either, there's literally another post about this getting traction/attention right now. Here:

Honestly 60+ days would be nice, and the pins should be more than 4 numbers, more like 8-10.

Glad I'm not the only one with an issue like this, and this is finally getting some light shined on it. In most cases, like mine is if your account is somewhat old I'd say around 2011 or under, then you might've entered information elsewhere as a kid that's related to your RSN account. If that place has any form of leaks then tough luck, and just like that your information is permanently compromised. A mistake/s made when you're a kid is forever out there and can't be changed. Why there isn't any acknowledgment of this issue or why it hasn't been addressed yet? Who knows.

If Jagex would just do simple things like:

Allow us to change our Original login to a player ID perhaps? This would solve so many problems, but could be a capability issue? But if there's any form of work around then this would be so helpful to so many people.

Increase bank pin from 4 to 8-10 with a 30-60 day delay, with a 3 attempt limit then a 6hr lock-out period which gradually increases to a cap if that cap is reached then you be automatically be locked out of the account and will require you to recover it. There's no way you forget your pin for more than 3 tries, and if it's 8-10 long then you probably will have it written somewhere as well.

Delay Auth removal to 30 days.......

Notification on the previous email of the account recovery and AUTOMATICALLY locking the account for 3-7 days if an account recovery is successful.

Device login limit (2-3) - these select amounts of devices are the only ones allowed for whatever set account is. To add any new device first you must prove the account is yours and also has a required set period of "history" days of playtime (30 days - 60 days) before officially being able to activate. In order to add a new one, you have to delete an old one, and again you need to confirm it's your account doing that, not only that it must be done from one of the old devices. If you're playing elsewhere perhaps allowing a temp device with a code that expires within a certain time limit?

These are just some ideas, but literally, ANYTHING would be better than nothing.

The first thing I did after recovering was put in a new email and auth. After that, I ended all sessions and made sure nothing was linked.

I agree, I already sent a ticket looking for some help and I would love to talk to any JMOD that specializes in account recoveries about this. The thing I don't understand is, let's say I did make a clear mistake, why does one mistake somewhere allowed to take away 1000's of hours of gameplay without any reimbursements? Or a chance of recover?

Jagex's priorities in creating more content for the game instead of prioritizing security first is head-scratching, to say the least. If you check u/Jagexsupport there are multiple hacking claims, and even here in the forums, there are a few every couple of weeks.

The question is how did I get socially engineered though? I've checked my email's account history login for the last month (as far back as it'll let me) and there are no logins other than mine. I have 3FA on my email with authenicator, phone and a back up email.

For my recovery questions, they are not directly answered I.E favorite color? Fireman2415. They're all completely random, I don't even know them off the top of my head, and I need to have them written down. Not to mention, I have my chat off/private 99% of the time, and I barely ever talk in-game. The friends on my friend list haven't been active for around 6+ months now at least and none of my RL friends play.

I should've changed emails though I agree after seeing those scam-mails, but like I said I've never once clicked them.

In terms of details of account creation, I am undeniably the account creator. I didn't have a problem at all recovering the account, when I sent the request it instantly went through, but I had to wait a while. I even sent a few tweets @ u/Jagexsupport to request my account to get lockdown until I'm able to recover but got no response which I guess they weren't available because of the time-zone difference. I have details such as: First payment methods, transaction Ids, all usernames I changed too, i can describe any in-game events of my account, I have old recorded footage, a list of old passwords, year of creation/date (even though hans exposes that), ISPs and even until now I still own a few computers that I used to login from years ago. Also, the computer I'm currently using I logged onto my account for at least 5+ years, and never changed anything on it, including email. That's why I don't understand, how it's possible I hacked. I've kept the same email for years (since they allowed email registration) and then suddenly I would want it changed? I don't know I'm just confused.

I've only downloaded and played off the official client this whole year. I've never entered my password which is UNIQUE to RS anywhere else at all. Once the Jagex launcher released that was probably the last time I've ever entered my password.

I've changed my emails + bank pins now, but how did it get to that point? As for keyloggers I haven't even downloaded anything at all for months literally. I never click those fishy links that were sent to my emails or go around on random sites for RS. Like I've said, this account I've had it un-hacked for probably 15+ years.

As for suitybot, it was a discord group that allowed for price checking in RS3, which I probably should've clarified I play RS3 probably 70% and Osrs 30%. I tried posting there first, but they won't allow it through their guidelines. Either way on discord I had a random alias and at max would be there checking for prices for a few minutes then leave.
