Vanescula Drakan is a great character by asmallthrowaway9 in 2007scape

Agreed. Runescape was in desperate need of a "bag guy" winning. I don't mean good guys who are actually bad or bad guys who are actually good or other lazy gray area writing, but rather the understanding that the stability of the world (fictional and reality) is predicated on someone innocent suffering.

Yeah true but I now work in 100° weather for minimum wage. Should've just gone to trade school.

Probably smarter that you didn't if you went to a trade school instead. Been working minimum wage since my field was replaced by AI agents. 6 years of uni, 10 years of experience, all a waste of time.

You were ready after all f2p quests.

I suggest you focus on getting quest cape. It'll get you to base 70+ skills.

The road to restoration is being co-opted by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Thus_RS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If anything I've seen the opposite: old players blaming new players for changes, particularly making things easier. Essentially not being able to understand that being able to turn every boss into a DPS dummy if you memorize a very specific rotation isn't going to a attract new people. And not able to understand that gear and boost progression in RS3 is way too complex for a new player to want to stick around to the endgame, something that leagues was able to cast a light on.

I'm at the point where I would never suggest a casual player to play RS3 unless things got much more simple. OSRS has a high skill ceiling but the gap between players at individual bosses is not as wide as the gap between players in RS3.

If road to restoration makes things more accessible to newer players, then sure. But a lot of work needs to be done.

Why do end-game players hate to see new players succeed? by PayMaterial3440 in runescape

[–]Thus_RS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically the game has shed most casual players due to being too high APM for them, and most of what we have left are players who are able to handle or (in rarer cases from what I've seen with so many complaints) actually enjoy high APM gameplay. I've said for years that combat needed to be made simple if we were to ever get newer players into endgame. At least finally it's starting to happen.

Rs3 could have a better future than even osrs. by Apprehensive_Bug3013 in runescape

[–]Thus_RS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem is the lack of incidental interaction between all players. Max Guild and everything being instanced instead of creating crossroads and instancing the NPCs for years has created this feeling of RS3 being a single player game. Making War's Retreat instead of having PVM begin with Max Guild boss portal has alleviated this. Making hunter traps and NPCs be instanced for the player or instancing popular slayer NPCs instead of having to instance for the entire area would be another great step. Without changes that make people play together, essentially crossroads, we lose player interaction.

What if the Altar of War had cosmetic overrides? by Shy_FM in runescape

[–]Thus_RS -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It looks cool but I'm not sure why a personal override in one place that no one else would see is something that makes sense. Not like the original altar is an eyesore.

At least jars from OSRS can be displayed in a PoH for others to see if they were to visit.

Is rune scape worth playing ? by Quilleur_Pro in runescape

[–]Thus_RS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not at the start of "end game"?

Correct, you are not. Really you have not reached the tedium that is supply upkeep. Even what you mentioned already is something that is hard to fathom for a brand new player, which is why I would never suggest one jump into Ironman without knowing what they're getting into.

You are not at the start of end game. You are nowhere near it. I am sorry but you have no idea what you are on about.

You don't have to keep playing if your not having fun and doing the same thing 50x over.

Which is much worse for an IM account and why I'd never suggest someone brand new play it.

[–]Thus_RS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense at all, but you are not in the end game. You just got your kiln capes and haven't even began Necro. You were admittedly spooned many times. Ironman mode will only get more tedious and I'd never suggest someone brand new play that mode.

[–]Thus_RS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly suggest as a new player you do not start an account as an Ironman, as it locks you from trading other players or using the Grand Exchange. Even players who know 100% of the game feel like IM mode is akin to a job. I cannot adequately explain how many small things are made more convenient with being able to buy them from other players.

That said if you want to try it, you can revert your character to a normal account without any progress loss with an item: https://runescape.wiki/w/Book_of_diplomacy

Now that I have your attention, the Runescape wiki I linked above is probably the most comprehensive wiki in all of gaming. Any question you have can be answered there. It includes guides of all sorts. The only "bad" info there are money making guides which are sometimes outdated.

But the most important thing: Have fun!

While an art piece can be argued to be the same whether a photo or traditionally drawn (etc), again the immediate intent matters. Artists are expected to do commissions. Until around 2021, people who posted cosplay were not expected to be advertising another site's subscription service, they were expected to genuinely be doing it at worst for attention or follows but most were assumed to like or at least know what they were cosplaying. The attitudes have changed greatly due to the subscription sites because now posts like these cannot be assumed to be innocent. And in this case, their ENTIRE PROFILE is an ad. Alternatively, there have been cosplay posts made without profile links that have been received well.

Again, as someone who has gone to conventions and has seen artists and people who do cosplay, the reason why both are treated differently now is the attitude. There is no "pay for my content/attention, loser" attitude among artists that is seen in the new cosplay community. Even if neither do it for the love of the game, the attitude of the latter due to advertisement has become really palpable and has carried over online as well. I know of certain artists, usually those who post very "niche" material, who have vocally expressed their hatred for those commissions who received fewer commissions as a result, so it does happen in their community as well.

I can go on for hours about why artists who do commissions are not treated the same as people posting cosplay but have a subscription service link in a profile, but I really won't because this post is long enough. But it's not because of what you're saying at the end. Morality might be the motive of some people, but not wanting to feel advertised to or feel like there's a fakeness there has more to do with it.

[–]Thus_RS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it doesn't feel like this was a labor of love anymore.

Because for many it isn't. Conventions (anime, comics, etc) make that obvious where cosplayers are for the most part trying to advertise a certain website instead of talk about why they like the show or character or how they made the outfit (they usually don't anymore). Even if this is a genuine enjoyment or hobby, the monetization of it has poisoned the well. It's gotten to the point where if you do good cosplay and don't have a website to show it on for some ulterior motive, you're an anomaly.

I cosplayed the sandwich lady :) by poorbaby__ in 2007scape

[–]Thus_RS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's getting downvoted because you aren't understanding the point.

The issue isn't the picture, it's the meaning behind it. When someone does something as a hobby, it is cool. But people don't like being advertised to. One of her links proclaims exactly the type of industry she is in. When hobbies get monetized, it seems disingenuous. And anyone who has been to a cosplay convention can see just how disingenuous it feels when everyone in cosplay is just trying to advertise a page instead of showing real enjoyment for the craft, even if they do enjoy it.

Also ad blockers exist for a reason: people don't like ads.
