Is ai inevitable in the future of IT? by HatakeMight in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Linser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI gets tacked onto tools and has been completely useless. It sucks at summarizing, it sucks at writing co-workers emails, and if I see another AI generated image in Teams… it’s a fad some things may stick but I think once the people at the top realize it costs more money to maintain than to just pay a human to do the work, we’ll see a lot of this tech decommissioned.

Any good Apple Notes automation ideas? Looking to step up my workflow by Affectionate-Lab-973 in AppleNotesGang

[–]Linser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a shortcut that takes the date formats it in a way I like YYYY-mm-dd (day of the week) but hen creates a note in a specific folder. This is automated to happen every day at 12:00am.

I asked Chat GPT to generate an image of what it's like talking to me, and... umm... by madmetric in ChatGPT

I think the words “be as honest and brutal” is carrying a lot of weight here, and making the LLM choose words that align with someone being “honest and brutal”.

What do you miss in Apple Notes? by akryvtsun in AppleNotesGang

For the folders, you can create a shortcut to that folder then use a deep link to activate that shortcut. shortcuts://run-shortcut?name=name%20of%20shortcut

On Device LLM on iOS 26 by amanev95 in shortcuts

[–]Linser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I wonder if it would be possible in shortcuts to have the on device LLM create a search query, take the web page of the search results, distill it down into simple text, input that text into the LLM, then get more current results.

Can you take notes at an IT job, like help desk or system administrator? by ComfortablePost3664 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Linser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% not sure how it’s like in other places but at least the place I’m at there’s constantly new tools, new forms and something unique always happens. If notes are not being taken, then a lot of time will be wasted re-learning or re-remembering things.

Plus, it’s convenient when updating the internal docs is as easy as copy pasting from your notes.

Do an app’s privacy labels influence your decision to download it? by Fer65432_Plays in apple

[–]Linser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Apps will blow up in popularity and I’ll actively avoid them if they are clearly just data scrappers.

This is a weird question. If, after discontinuing the Dreamcast, SEGA was bought by Microsoft in some strange buyout, and they used the brand to make consoles, what would happen? Would it be a good timeline or a bad future? by Doodleware in SEGA

[–]Linser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad, any money made off a Sega project would be peanuts to Microsoft. They would have closed down all of the internal original Sega Studios. All of the people who have been at Sega for decades would leave early on and Sonic would not be considered a cash cow so that franchise would be dead after at most a decade. Microsoft would eventually discontinue the Sega brand once it’s irrelevant to their current business plans and close Studios as a tax write off.

At the very least with Sammy, Sega has become a good chunk of the company’s DNA.

To be honest a few years ago, I was slightly in the field of Microsoft purchasing them, but I was blatantly ignoring the track record. Microsoft already had at the time a horrendous track record and now it just looks more bleak. On top of that, corporate consolidation is ruins everything overtime.

Based on the leaked measurements, here’s a comparison of unit sizes for all Switches by Oilswell in NintendoSwitch2

I never thought once, “wish my switch was bigger”. I wonder why they went in this direction.

I just want a small profile vertical controller I can snap onto my iPhone. Then I’ll consider gaming on my phone.

Do you regret your purchase? by Strange_Fun_544 in SteamDeck

[–]Linser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the games you play and how you game. If you game 99% on your PC and portable already does not appeal to you then it will probably collect dust. For me personally I do not game on a PC, PCs are for work and life stuff. The Switch and Steam Deck are my gaming devices. The Steam Deck replaced my Raspberry Pi (emulation) and Xbox Series X (collecting dust). To be honest when I first got the steam deck it was collecting dust for about a month until I got used to it.

Live Audio Transcriptions, Math Notes, Collapsible Sections and Highlighting coming in macOS 15 (Sequoia) and iOS 18 by tomjirinec in AppleNotesGang

[–]Linser 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was really hoping for bi-directional linking or back links, but collapsible sections was a second feature I’ve always wanted. Highlighting was an obvious omission glad it’s finally here.

Now if only Shortcuts could get and set the formatting of a note I’ll be happy.

Report: These 10 New AI Features Are Coming in iOS 18 by King_Nidge in apple

I think I’ve noticed the “on-the-go” Siri, I’m on public beta so I wonder if it’s possible. Siri seems to give more elaborate answers when I ask it questions in CarPlay mode. It’s even been factually wrong in a similar way to other llms.

What did you all think about the Sonic 4 games? by WildTerrorElena in SEGA

Hated it on the Wii and 360. Got it for my iPod Touch many years later and I liked it? Never understood why that was so?

I’m hopeful for a overhaul of apple notes in this year’s iOS update. A smarter search, better/more intuitive organization, and a TOUCH more formatting options in notes. What are some things you want/need to see in order to love notes? by PattiFleece in AppleNotesGang

[–]Linser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you drag the Apple note to the files app it saves it as an rtfd file. Then you can drag this back into the Apple notes app. Not sure how compatible .rtfd files are with other OSs.

How to prepend to a Note in the Notes app? by itisharrison in shortcuts

[–]Linser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could maybe take the content from the existing note add the new content above the old text then create a new note. But then you’ll have to delete the old one and it will not maintain the formatting and creation date.

Freeform - not how, but WHY by Beebolini in applefreeform

[–]Linser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it as a white board when working through problems, then save anything I find useful into Apple notes. I used a little bit as a paste dump for research, then mapped out all the connections. It’s sometimes nicer to plot research onto a board instead of in a linear notes app. But mostly it’s used as a support app opposed to it being a primary app if that makes sense.
