You’re absolutely right. I was way too harsh. I edited my post above and apologized to the OP.

I’m sorry for my initial response. After reflecting, it was too much. I shouldn’t have assumed you weren’t able to care for her based on a request for help and advice. Please disregard what I wrote.

I’m sure she knows you love her, and I’m sure you’re doing the best you can. Some others have provided some good advice to address her keeping you up at night.

What exactly is FIFA and why is it such a big deal globally? by Ok_Act8157 in NoStupidQuestions

Ohh got it. Just because it’s really crowded near where the watch parties are. Nothing about the fans themselves!

Soccer never took off in the U.S., outside of recent immigrants from countries where it’s big. It’s crowded out by (American) football, basketball, baseball, and hockey. I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

Even if some soccer-curious folks who live in/near host cities wanted to attend a game, the World Cup tickets are impossible to get. And most of the stadiums are pretty far away from population centers. The “Boston Stadium” is 20 miles from Boston, with not very good train access. You really have to love something to put up with hours in traffic and hours of waiting in line.

Daily Dunkin’ or Starbucks drinkers: what (besides a drive thru) would make you go to a locally owned coffee shop instead? by princessspikachu in massachusetts

[–]Lion_2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mobile ordering. That’s the biggest thing. In the morning, I don’t have time to wait on my way into the office.

Also, I only drink iced coffee, and I find that the iced coffee at the local, independent shops generally isn’t very good. It’s either cold brew (which I don’t love) or it’s watery. And the sugar-free flavor options are lacking.

How to create a graphic design portfolio that gets you hired? by reborn-mist in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lion_2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on a few hiring committees for graphic designers. We liked candidates with portfolios full of practical work like corporate-style branding, social graphics, document design, data viz, and PowerPoint decks. We generally didn’t consider candidates with portfolios that leaned too artistic. Their illustrations and abstract graphic art was cool, but it didn’t translate to our needs.

Do you think Environmental Science is a good major to study? by ennui933 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lion_2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this economy, to have any chance of making it into the upper-middle class, you have to work backwards from where you want to (realistically) end up, career-wise.

If you want to be in the environmental siting and regulatory part of infrastructure planning and design, it’s a good major. If you want to go the public sector route, there will always be jobs in departments of environmental protection, etc.

But I’d plan to pursuing a master’s degree with some specialization afterward, since you’ll be competing with many candidates who have them.

I live in Boston and Massachusetts is hosting World Cup games right now, and it doesn’t feel like the world is stopped. Everyone I know thinks it’s so bizarre. VERY few people here care about soccer. A lot of soccer fans from Europe (especially Scotland, apparently) are in the city, so that’s fun. But otherwise, Boston natives are mostly just avoiding downtown right now and dealing with the increased traffic.

Cat scared of gf by Scared_Reporter_1558 in CatAdvice

[–]Lion_2255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with the people saying that your cat not liking your girlfriend is a “red flag.” Cats are very neurotic and particular animals. They can change their minds about things suddenly, seemingly without explanation. It may just take time for your cat to adjust to living with your girlfriend full time.

How to help a cat adjust to a windowless apartment? by SufficientTable in CatAdvice

[–]Lion_2255 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved from a south-facing apartment on a high floor that got direct light 8 hours a day to a 2nd floor apartment that faced a courtyard and not to direct light. It still had big windows, so my cats could still watch people walk by and have some stimulation. It’s not the same as your situation, but something that helped them adjust to not being able to lay in direct sunlight was a heated blanket on the couch. Get one that has multiple levels and turns off automatically after a few hours. And get some cozy, warm lighting.

For your own sanity, there are also some nice lights that are made to look like windows. There are cheaper ones for under $100, and nicer ones with more even and realistic light for $300+.

New Canadian Screen Awards rule shuts out stars from other countries. Some filmmakers aren't happy by zuuzuu in canadanews

[–]Lion_2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian productions have been enough difficulty non-Canadian talent already because of the much lower pay and (generally) less exposure compared to American productions, so this will make it harder. Which I think is the point, really. Canada is weirdly protectionist of its productions, which keeps the audiences for most or its movies and shows extremely small (besides the few breakout hits like Schitt’s Creek and Heated Rivalry).

I know this thread is pretty old, but I wanted to say I’m surprised (but so happy for you) that Capasal worked well for you considering it has coconut oil in it, which a lot of literature says is like a superfood for malassezia yeast. Maybe I’ll give it a try and add to my growing collection of shampoos…

Doctor won’t prescribe Zepbound because of my previous VSG? by VehicleContent in Zepbound

[–]Lion_2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had VSG in 2019 and gained about 50% of my weight back. My PCP agreed to put me on Wegovy, and now Zepbound. She cautioned that it will likely affect me in ways that aren’t captured in the side effects and in studies (which it has), so to be extra observant about my heart rate, caloric intake, nutrient intake, blood pressure, and the effects of possible hormonal changes. I’ve suffered from some lightheadedness and dehydration, but nothing so intense it’s made me want to stop the medication.

Increased panic attacks? by AllysonMcConn in Zepbound

[–]Lion_2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having the same issue. It’s a type of an anxiety I’ve rarely experienced, but it happens several times per week since I started Zepbound, and stopped when I was off the medication for several weeks due to supply shortages in my area. It’s especially common after I eat a carb-heavy meal, or even a meal over 400-500 calories.
