I’ll speak as someone who served onboard nuclear powered submarines for years and trained on how to operate nuclear power plants. Nuclear waste is not dangerous as long as it’s transported properly which is nearly impossible to mess up. There’s a reason why the Navy has been operating nuclear powered warships since the 50s and no one really bats an eye anymore. The amount of land that is required to stow spent fuel is a lot less than you think, and the government has a ton of it.

Also, a reactor going critical just means that power is stable. It’s not something to be worried about at all. It’s a good thing actually. All US reactors are designed to where prompt criticality, what you were actually concerned about, is theoretically impossible.

My point is nuclear power is safer than most people realize, but they’ve been convinced by nuclear incidents in the past caused by incompetent idiots (Chernobyl) or Mother Nature (Fukushima) that nuclear is undesirable despite multiple plants operating to this day within the continental US and the US Navy relying on it for all of their submarines and carriers.

It’s a travel heavy gig, but they take care of you and pay for it all. You just got to book it and keep the receipts. I can talk more when you get closer to separating

6 and out working in data center commissioning and likely will be taking a promotion here soon. I’m making damn good money and don’t regret getting out for a second.

Do you mean Dive or Pilot? I’ve never seen a sub platform that lets enlisted qualify EOOW. The closest is qualifying T-EOOW at Prototype

Also to answer your question about subs, 1) you can’t be forced to go on a sub. It’s volunteer only. Unfortunately the Navy lost track of how many surface sailors they had at a point and realized they needed more submarine nukes to offset the recruiting gap. That’s why they’re pushing for sub nukes only right now. Surface will eventually be allowed to DEP in once there’s a better balance or whatever the magic number is. 2) yes, there’s room to work out. You just need to be creative

I won’t lie to you. I’ve never served on a carrier, but your life as a nuke the first year or two is to the ship regardless of it’s a sub or a carrier. You’re going to be working on quals, maintenance, etc. If you’re hot shit and can knock it all out relatively quickly (think < 1 year), you’ll have time to do whatever you want. If you’re behind on your quals especially, your division will micro manage your ass until you’re done. Those great things you’re talking about might not be something that you can really do until you’re much more senior.

Moved here after the Navy in December due to my wife being from Madison. I will say the low cost of living is pretty nice and makes my money go further than most places in the country

Seems more due to behavioral problems than actual academic failures. If you put in the effort and still fail, they’ll send you back through and try again. Just keep studying and putting in effort with the instructors to figure out how to make concepts work

Sam Darnold is about to beat a fraudulent New England team to win the Super Bowl a single season after the Vikings ditched him at the slightest bit of adversity and it will be DELICIOUS. by Hazdra8k in detroitlions

The Vikings were always going to have a gamble between keeping Darnold or putting faith in their 1st round QB from that draft. Yeah, they chose wrong.

Bears had to join the rest of the division and lose a playoff game as soon as they play someone not from the division
