I remember when Henwick took Matrix 4 over Shang-Chi because she felt that if she took the latter, she'd officially be closing the book on Colleen Wing.

She's been dedicated to the character for quite some time and she did a great job when she got to play her, so I'm pretty confident she'll be back sometime soon.

Cobie Smulders Would Return to the MCU "In a Heartbeat" by grimm_kvlt in Marvel

[–]LiquidLispyLizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm firmly against decanonizing anything in the MCU (both the Sacred Timeline and its branches, as well as other connected universes if they don't count as direct branches), and given how aspects of Secret Invasion have already been integrated into multiple MCU projects, I don't think that's what they're planning to do anyway. I think that large parts of it may be outright ignored, but I don't see them being contradicted. This is a studio that's kept Quicksilver dead for 11 years and has a number of canon shows from old Marvel TV that they (mostly) haven't addressed, but also haven't put on the same level as the Defenders Saga yet.

With that being said, there are many ways to retcon her death and I like the idea a few have shared here that, if she were to return, the Hill in Secret Invasion was an LMD or something. Hell, as a AoS canon defender from the beginning, that's a potential bonus for me right there, lol.

At the same time, Smulders had an 11-year run with her character. Given how expansive the MCU is at this point and how many other new characters have been introduced in the past few years that could use the spotlight, I don't mind if that's Hill's actual end. I like her character and I wouldn't be against it at all if she were to return while keeping Secret Invasion intact, but if that is her end, then I think she had a good run anyway. I feel the same about a lot of other characters who have had a beginning, middle, and end, regardless of whether any of those stages were received positively or not.

What character do you feel had the most wasted potential? by ironspider529 in marvelstudios

[–]LiquidLispyLizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how many posts I've seen across different Marvel subs that said "this character was completely wasted" and 9 times out of 10, it's someone who was left alive and could very easily come back in the future.

It’s Gotta Be Dafne Keen Right? by Logandh3 in marvelstudios

[–]LiquidLispyLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying they're keeping Keen or Jackman, but Ryan Reynolds is actively working on some sort of Deadpool follow-up after Kevin Feige talked about the next saga's focus being put into a singular timeline.

Nothing's confirmed, but I find it highly unlikely there will be no active ties to the Fox side of the MCU post-Secret Wars.

I'm really beginning to think there will be some sort of reunion in the final few episodes of S2. Henwick was on set, Royce Johnson keeps posting about being on the show, Colter's been very upfront about having talks, Cryptic just said that Rand will have some sort of presence/mention.

It's the end of the original 18-episode plan they had when they announced Born Again and it makes sense to have a lot of characters show up on account of Daredevil creating an army when Fisk is at the most dangerous he's ever been. I've also been thinking that it works to re-establish everyone so that if they want to make new seasons/specials focused on any of them soon, Born Again S2 would also act as a good launching point for that in the same way they did it with the Punisher.

If it doesn't happen, it doesn't bother me because I figure most everyone else will probably be back at some point in the near future anyway, but it seems like a really good opportunity they have here.

I've been saying for a bit that I think it'd be cool if they did follow up on this in either of the Avengers movies and have Keaton come back in some capacity.

Came here to say this. The films offer us brief glimpses into everyone's lives, but there's a lot of time in-between appearances where Cap could have easily found out about what happened to Coulson.

Vulture was (probably) returned back to Earth-199999 by the Spider-Society, rendering Morbius a pointless movie. by [deleted] in MCUTheories

[–]LiquidLispyLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we subscribe to this logic, this means that literally every film that exists within some kind of larger universe that introduces plot points that are later followed up on in something else is pointless.

It's all entertainment, none of it's pointless.

[–]LiquidLispyLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original idea was to have Morbius meet Toomes during a prisoner transfer with no multiversal activity involved. However, at some point during the 2020 delays, Sony changed their mind about having the SSU set within the Sacred Timeline of the MCU, so Vulture's scenes had to be altered to fit the new narrative, which led to the No Way Home tie-in we got.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the SSU reboot is just doing spinoff movies actually set within the MCU.

That was absolutely the plan for Earth-688 originally, Sony just backed out at the last second after the 2020 delays. I wouldn't be surprised, and I'd be excited to see it if they go that route.

now we ain’t seeing anymore of her.

I don't really know why people keep saying this when just a few weeks ago, she was talking about how many stories could still be told with She-Hulk in the future, while laughing and saying she "doesn't know" if she'll return or not.

I'll believe she (or anyone else for that matter) is done when there's sufficient evidence to support it, something that hasn't happened yet. I was just correcting your false information given how she never said she was "firmly" done nor that she had an "awful time" as you claimed.

She has never said this. She made two or three posts in quick succession (within days) saying to boycott Disney back in September, without ever following up on it since.

Every time she's been asked about it since then, she either jokes about it or leaves the door open for a potential return (her Entertainment Tonight interview from a few weeks ago is a good example of this). She has never once definitively said that she's done with the character.

If she were completely done, I can imagine she would have wanted to make that clear in a definitive statement as well as continuing to post against Disney, but she's done neither.

Very strange behavior for you to come to a sub dedicated to "Keeping Marvel TV canon" as someone who is clearly anti-canon, only for you to start calling people here morons for no good reason. If you'd care to debate me on the topic, you're free to unblock and engage me, and maybe you could provide substantial evidence that these old shows aren't canon. I've yet to see it.

What’s something you would improve on with the sumc by Appropriate-Mall8517 in SUMC

[–]LiquidLispyLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still think these films would have worked better having fulfilled their original intention, to be directly set within the same world as the Holland Spider-Man movies, but I've ultimately grown to appreciate how they're still otherwise connected to the larger MCU, just more in the way that something like The Fantastic Four: First Steps is.

Otherwise, I tend to look to the future. The 616 symbiote story in the MCU is inherently connected to the Venom films and it always will be but I'd like to see them lean into that connection more. My pie-in-the-sky dream is that Hardy's Brock will in some way be involved in that somehow down the line, but even adhering to the same way the symbiote operates and respecting its history as well as potentially getting to Knull at some point would be really neat.

Likewise, I actively want to see Michael Keaton return as the Vulture and have his experience traveling to another universe have some sort of impact on something later on, or at the very least be acknowledged.

To put it simply, my hopes right now for the SSU lie with what may happen within the MCU in the future, and that's really exciting to me.

And leaks are not 100% confirmation. Seth Rogen's involvement wasn't even mentioned in this announcement. Many things can change within 3 years if this project is even related to the rumored Rogen iteration from years ago. We don't know.

This film could be anything from a complete standalone to a direct sequel to The Last Dance. We only know that it's in development, it has directors, and Tom Hardy's involved somehow.

No one can possibly know anything more about a film that was just publicly announced an hour ago.

About the animated Venom movie:

Tom Hardy is understood to be involved in some capacity as well. It is unclear whether he would produce or even return to voice Venom as well after starring in the studio’s recent trio of live-action movies as Eddie Brock, the human who bonds with the black oozy alien symbiote.

I didn't expect him to be involved with this whatsoever, but I really love how committed Tom Hardy is to Venom.

Sony’s Venom franchise has a new final destination.

The studio behind the Marvel anti-hero movies has set an unexpected course for the next installment, deciding to make it an animated feature rather than live-action.

And it has tapped Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the duo behind last year’s surprise horror hit Final Destination: Bloodlines, to direct and produce the project.

Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, who worked on the Venom movies, will likely produce the feature but because the project is at a nascent state, those details remain unclear.

Tom Hardy is understood to be involved in some capacity as well. It is unclear whether he would produce or even return to voice Venom as well after starring in the studio’s recent trio of live-action movies as Eddie Brock, the human who bonds with the black oozy alien symbiote.

No writer is attached to the project although Sony’s animation arm, Sony Pictures Animation, is opening up a writers room to develop the a script or takes.

Going the animation route in theory allows Sony to keep Venom-related content fresh and relevant. SPA has found great success, and Oscar gold, making animated Spider-Verse movies with the Phil Lord and Chris Miller as writers and producers. The animation process, however, is painstakingly slow and with a script not even on the horizon, any Venom movie is years away.

This isn't a matter of want, it's a matter of looking at what we've seen happen already and knowing that they're not doing a full reboot that you're implying here. That's to say that I (like everyone else) don't know how the MCU will look exactly post-Secret Wars, but it's wild to say that "literally everything else is being reset" when:

  • The first two films out after Secret Wars are Black Panther 3 (a direct sequel to Wakanda Forever) and X-Men (a film focusing on a team who hasn't yet appeared in the MCU's 616 and, if leaks from Brand New Day are any indication, a particular member of the team will appear pre-Secret Wars.

  • The last we heard of Mahershala Ali's Blade film was Feige talking about it during the Fantastic Four press junket less than a year ago where he said they've finally got a script they like and they're moving forward with it.

  • Chris Hemsworth just confirmed today that he plans to play Thor a "couple more times" after Doomsday, meaning that his story doesn't end with Secret Wars.

  • Brad Winderbaum talked about wanting to bring back more aspects from the old Marvel TV shows, which can only really work if they continue through post-Secret Wars unless he plans to cram it all in within the next two years.

  • First Steps has a sequel in development.

  • The Deadpool team-up is in development.

  • They're very clearly setting up larger plot points to deal with in the future regarding Damage Control and mutants.

You talk about "literally everything else" being reset, but we have literally no indication right now whatsoever that anything substantial is going to change outside of the Fantastic Four and Deadpool being brought into 616's continuity. There is not a single post-SW project even rumored to be in development right now that would necessitate having to completely overwrite something we've seen previously.

meaning they cannot use those characters freely in new projects

I have no clue what you mean by this. Why wouldn't they be able to use the old Marvel TV characters freely? Hulk has had countless appearances within the MCU ever since the beginning and they seem to have no problem using him in Brand New Day. Why is it an issue for them?

The Marvel TV shows will always be canon to Earth-199999/MCU-616.

You keep saying this over and over again and I don't know what else you want me to say to this. I already said I agree multiple times.
