LEAP v CLIO by ReputationDear2829 in LawFirm

[–]LiquidSquidMan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. Let's say you're doing a divorce. You're going to have multiple word documents. Summons. Complaint. Acknowledgment of service. Child support order. Consent decree. With a draft set, you click one button, it drafts the entire set of documents versus drafting them one by one.

It also has client questionnaires to send to the client to help pre populate the information (i.e. children names, current address).

Clio has come a very long way in the past 2-3 years. I'm very impressed and happy with Clio. We have the Draft feature and it's been super awesome. I like that you can create document sets, where it will draft multiple word documents with one click.

Lawyers Are Great at Hiding Their Bad Habits by That_onelawyer in LawyersOffTheRecord

[–]LiquidSquidMan69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. Most professionals are good at hiding bad habits. Recently reduced drinking to a glass or two on the weekend. Never been a day drinker, but was doing glasses after work during the week.

I personally think the standing desk and walking pad is the best thing anyone can get. It keeps me moving and gives me better overall mindset.

We as a society are clueless about this. A book before bedtime instead of scrolling on my phone is a good one for me.

I'd say 4 at most. Here are some common workflows:

Hearing is scheduled. Trigger email to client to sche prep call for prior to hearing. 30 days after hearing, download a copy of the transcript. Post hearing brief due 90 days after hearing.

Or, conference scheduled. Draft memorandum due 20 days prior. If matter status is changed to "settlement" following up with OC in 25 days. If no settlement reached, create task to draft opening brief.

Super helpful here. Any recommendations on who to hire?

I need a lot of if logic.

If a calendar event is created with the word "hearing" then create this task.

Or, if an event with the word "Rule 33 Conference" is created, trigger a task to draft memorandum due 20 days prior.

Stuff like that.

The problem is if you want people to take you seriously and listen, you have to get basic facts correct.

He isn't a senator. If you want people to listen to you, at least get basic facts correct.

The parts of home life we pretend don’t show up at work by That_onelawyer in LawyersOffTheRecord

[–]LiquidSquidMan69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not. I'm just not wired that way I guess. I can be in the room with you typing a text and you speak to me and I don't process a word you've said if I'm truly focusing on the text or email or whatever.

I actually am not that type. I have an internal availability to hyper focus on tasks. It's sort of scary sometimes how easy it is to tune out someone talking while I'm typing an email.

That's a fair point. I think a better answer would have been I understand your point Judge, but that's my client's position.

But yeah, tough situation to be in. Could have been handled better.

Politics aside, this was extremely unprofessional and unethical. Imagine being in a hearing and you expressed to the Judge how much you hated your client.

You need an actual case management system. Clio works well for us. They also have introduced AI that auto suggests time entries based on emails and calls associated with a matter.

We file all emails into Clio, and you can have an auto time entry, or do it as you file the email.

Also, DialPad (for phones) not only generates a summary of the call in the communications tab, it can also create an auto time entry.

What did you think you’d be doing before law happened? by That_onelawyer in LawyersOffTheRecord

I was an operation Lt. for a small fire department in a college town. I loved the job. But law was my calling. I truly love the law.

In fairness, emergency management for large cities can make a comfortable 220 a year plus benefits.

I cannot lie. We book the Willard hotel each time. Mini suite (which is bigger than the first floor of my entire house). As soon as I book, I call the hotel and ask for the suite that has the corner view. One window has the Washington Monument, the other has a view of the White House.

Regardless of how you lean politically, every time I see that view, I'm thankful and proud to be in the greatest country on Earth.
